True to the Game by author and publisher Teri Woods has been undisputedly titled a classic. While working as a legal secretary for a law firm and juggling motherhood in Philadelphia, PA, Teri Woods completed her first novel, True to the Game. Teri Woods submitted her story over a period of six years to more than 20 different publishers, all of whom rejected her. When major publishing houses refused to embrace True to the Game she wasn’t discouraged. In 1998 instead of giving up, Teri Woods printed, bound, self-published and began selling hand to hand her first book True to the Game. . . . Her grassroots tactic paid off; Teri Woods became a self-made millionaire in just three years selling her novel, True to the Game. She landed a major motion picture deal for the book as well. With the release of True to the Game, Teri Woods has reinvigorated the urban fiction market and created a growing trend in publishing. --from the author's website
Gritty read! entertaining, suspenseful at best, enjoyable with some foolish and crazy characters..well written with a storyline twist at the ending (paperback!)
What is the definition of an angel not Kareemah El-Amins. Kareemah was once a sweet and innocent child living a normal childs life until the day her father took her sweet innocence. Kareemah still goes on with life not telling no one her little secret until the day she comes home and hears her little sister saying "no daddy stop" she wasn't going to let what happened to her to happen to her little sister. Thats when she transforms into a deadly alter- ego Angel who isn't anything what her names means and kills her father. After that incident Kareemah often slips in and out from Angel when she is betrayed.
With a whole new side Angel is ruthless she doesn't take any prisoners. But it wasn't until college when she had her next incident. A young sexy college boy charmed Kareemah out her panties. After he had his way with her he stopped calling and coming around. Kareemah felt betrayed with that she transforms into her alter-ego Angel. Angel leads him on to the roof top and plays with him leading him to think that he was going to have sex.Forcefully pushing him she watch in awe as his body falls to the ground.
Her next incident didn't happen to years later. After the love of her, Tony's death she goes and takes over his place in the drug game. Angel rises in the drug game and quickly becomes kingpin. With that she takes charge and killing is what she haves to do in the drug game. Ruthless and reckless is nothing she is beyond that.
Angels world comes crashing down when her sister and her best is kidnapped, tortured, and killed. And Angel is out to seek revenge on whomever, killing any and everybody who stands in her way. The police is on her trail, who can she trust. Will she complete her mission.
She completes her quest and is living a happy normal life. She's pregnant haves her own shop and haves lots of money. Until one day a little girls comes into her shop and says "i'm hear to see miss Angel and shoots Angel right in her pregnant belly. The little girl is the love of her life Tony daughter.
No remorse. No regrets. No sadness. That's the only way Kareemah El-Amin, aka Angel, knows how to live her life. Being ruthless is a must if Angel is going to effectively control the drug trade in the nation's capital. As the body count grows, so does suspicions surrounding Angel. Who will take her down first, the streets or the cops?
Let's divide this review in two parts, shall we, because we are dealing with two players: the author and the publisher.
Presentation... Despite the cover bearing the name Teri Woods twice, she is not the author, but rather the publisher. As the publisher she fell short of her duties. ANGEL is in need of some serious editing. Multiple errors can be very distracting. Teri Woods should focus more on putting out a quality product and less on seeing how big of a font she can use for her name on the cover. The real author, Anthony Fields, is talented, but the presentation of this novel, at times, takes away from that.
Content... ANGEL is the gritty account of one woman's climb to the top in the underworld, revealing the darkness of her heart and mind. Author Anthony Fields holds your attention with a story that builds tension and knocks you down with an explosive ending. ANGEL is a book worth reading and Anthony Fields is an author to follow. I look forward to ANGEL II.

Kareemah "Angel" El-Amin was raised in a strict Muslim household. Although she was ridiculed for her clothes and religion, her childhood for the most part was good. However, her father's love eventually crossed the line. Scared, ashamed and uncertain of what to do, Angel was punctured with carting around that dirty little secret. When Angel discovers that her fathers indiscretions moved on to her little sister she knows that it's her job to protect her sister at all cost.
Now that Angel's tasted blood, she's no longer in fear of Allah. She's decided to appease her own self-seeking ways at any cost. While D.C. may think that they've seen their share of bloodshed, drugs and crime, nothing could've prepared them for the death, destruction and deception that would come with Angel's leadership.
Betrayal, deception and street justice put the entire city on high alert. Angel's wrath won't end until every person affiliated with bringing her a move have paid with their lives. Friendships crumble, hate festers and many tears are shed. Will incarceration stop her?
While I didn't run out to cop ANGEL when I learned of the release, I can't see how people mistook this character for the one in the DUTCH series. While they are both ruthless women in the streets, they are TWO DIFFERENT WOMEN all together. Anthony Fields, author of Angel, did a fantastic job building an ambitious woman in the criminal world who wasn't afraid to do what she had to do in order to reach the top rankings. While I was perturbed with the editing, it didn't detour me on my quest to find out how Angel ends.
This book caught my attention from the beginning. I read this book in one day. I keep looking for the sequel to this book. If you haven't read this book and love Teri Woods books you have to read this book.
Kareemah El-Amin "Angel" Muhammad was raised in a strict Muslim household, where family is very important. Life has dealt her a bad hand and she becomes this sadistic killer who becomes a female drug kingpin. She comes up against opposition at almost every turn, but rises above it…while creating along the way. At, times, Angel believes she is unstoppable and uses fear to control those around her. Little does she know…that fear could cause her downfall.
I enjoyed this book, but found a few errors in it, so I'll have to give it 💎💎💎💎.
Sometimes if you don’t let go of the past, it can ruin your future. In “Angel” written by Teri woods Angel was raped by her father when she was younger. This incident did more then make her fell “dirty” about herself, but it also made her think twice about men. She started to despise them and her decision to any problems they caused her will have you in shock. I would tell anyone who likes drama to read this book.
I recommend this book because it is more than just a story, it’s also a message. In my opinion I think that the message was that if you hold on to your dark past then you will never see the light of life. One “light” that angel missed out on was love. She hated men so much because of her father that she never gave them a chance to show her what real love is about. Angel’s life shows that you need to enjoy life.
This book is filled with drama that would keep you on your toes. There’s always someone who pushes Angels buttons and not caring about the consequences. And there is also a person who want to help Angel but don’t know how and that causes problems. The fact that you don’t know Angle’s plans to fix things makes the book great.
Yes this book is holds drama, secrets, and a lot of problems, but it also holds a lot of cussing and there are many wrong turns that angel takes that will make you frustrated with her. I would say that this book isn’t a good book for those who just want a book that is about a good life. All the cussing and Angel dark ways will make this book seems just plain wrong.
Letting go of something bad that has happened to you is very hard, but wants you do let go it can make your life a whole lot easier. “Angel” is a very good book but it also has it downs like cussing and rude ways but in all it is such a great message. I can’t wait to read the second part and see if anything has changed.
This book contains alot of action. It goes into details on violent scenes, sexual encounters, making money and drug involment. It is now on my list of favorite books. The main character is given the name Kareemah by her parents but the streets know her as Angel. She's muslim but after an incident with her father she begins to loose her beliefs. The game gets crazy and eventually she ends up loosing herself in the proccess too....
This book was very good. I wish it hadn't of ended the way it did but it was very good none the less. It captures you at the very beginning and takes you on a ride in the life of Angel. A Woman on a mission. She kills with no hesitation and is trying to work her way to the top. But like the old saying goes, what goes around comes around and once she thinks she has gotten away with all that she has done, someone comes along and rocks her world they way she has rocked others....
It was a pretty good book I felt like it was predictable for the most part, I secretly wanted somebody to get at angel personally but they were all too weak to make a move on her, but he loyalty to Carlos is undeniable but Carlos was def the big man in charge, as for the detective he was just salty Lol
I loved this book!!! I don't see how it ties in with Dutch however... and was'nt she gay in the Dutch series?? maybe I need to re-read dutch.. This book was great I read it in one night!!
