True to the Game by author and publisher Teri Woods has been undisputedly titled a classic. While working as a legal secretary for a law firm and juggling motherhood in Philadelphia, PA, Teri Woods completed her first novel, True to the Game. Teri Woods submitted her story over a period of six years to more than 20 different publishers, all of whom rejected her. When major publishing houses refused to embrace True to the Game she wasn’t discouraged. In 1998 instead of giving up, Teri Woods printed, bound, self-published and began selling hand to hand her first book True to the Game. . . . Her grassroots tactic paid off; Teri Woods became a self-made millionaire in just three years selling her novel, True to the Game. She landed a major motion picture deal for the book as well. With the release of True to the Game, Teri Woods has reinvigorated the urban fiction market and created a growing trend in publishing.

This story was too predictable! I don't think I'm too interested in following the series through. I like the ballistics detail.

Since I began reading urban books at age 12, Teri Woods have always been my favorite author. I remember going to the Barnes & Nobles in Center City just to see what new book she had out or co written. I read just about every book Ms. Woods have written. I loved every one, except DEADLY REIGNS.
Deadly Reign is about three siblings. Damian Reigns a Harvard educated business man with GQ looks who is the leader of the Reigns family billion dollar drug enterprise. Damian, a Princeton graduate who is the families lethol weapon protecting their business at any cause, and their older sister Princess who is caculating, manipulative, and proving she’s just as deadly as her brothers. DEADLY REIGNS follow the Reign brothers as they try to outsmart the FBI and their deranged sister Princess who is obsessed with taken over the families business once again. Meanwhile the commission wages a war. The FBI try to locate missing agents and take down Dante and Damian. In a last effort to take down the Reign brothers, the FBI send in Agent Grace who is a beauty, sent to cast a spell on Damian, make him fall in love, and tell her everything about the billion dollar drug enterprise. Sounds interesting? Reading this description of the book you probably want to read it. WARNING: DO NOT OPEN! Deadly Reign takes to long to get to the point. The story seems to go in circles, and it sounds cliche.
When I opened Deadly Reign I was drawn in. Chapter 1 started off with much violence and actions, so did Chapter 2-4. As, the story continued I found myself becoming bored. I remember thinking when will the story end. Yes there were a few killings and thrilling moments but I was still not satisfied. It was just taken to long to get to the point. When Darien walked around killing members of the commission I was like ok, and. Why was he killing them? Why are they partners in the same commission but hate each other? How did Damien take the family business away from Princess? Many questions were left unanswered. The story contained so many words but said so few. I thought there would be more of a story to tell. I feel the story took to long to get to the point. It took the story 30 chapters to get some kind of excitement. When it did become interesting the story was ending and it was a to be continued.
Have you ever read a book that repeats the same information over and over again? Deadly Reigns was one of them books. It kept going in circles. Teri Woods kept repeating the fact that Damien and Darien had beef with the commission, how wealthy they were and just as deadly. Alright I get it!It went back and forth. Between Princess plotting on killing her brothers to Grace who was a nervous rack fighting with herself on should she continue her mission on taking Damien down or should she throw it all away because she has fallen in love. Each page seem to have the exact same words, it got to the point were I could just skip about five pages or a chapter and didn't miss anything. This book was really a "page turner". I had to turn the page in order to finish the book.
Cliche is a word I'd use when describing Deadly Reign by Teri Woods. It was one of them books that sound all to familiar. Since I read almost every Teri Woods book I started to realize her style of writing. When your someones fan you could spot their work and compare some of them. Deadly Reign in my opionion was a cliche of Dutch: The First of a Trilogy, and Angel all by Teri Woods. Damien and Darien both were created based on Dutch the main charecter of Dutch: The first trilogy, All three charecters had the same swag, both educated, and deadly. The books had the same plot. Both books had drug lords who were feared by all they were on top of the game and somebody were trying to take them down. In Dutch that person was Attorney Anthony Jacobs, in Deadly Reign it was the whole FBI unit. The charecter Princess was based off of Angel the main charecter of Angel by Teri Woods. They were both manipulative, street smart, and didn't care about anything or anyone but money, power, and respect. Both these books Dutch and Angel were rolled in to one forming "Deadly Reign".
In conclusion, Deadly Reign was not one of Teri Woods strongest books. It takes to long to get to the point, it goes in circle, and sounds cliche. It took the story 30 chapters to get some kind of excitement. Each page seem to have the exact same words, it got to the point were I could just skip about five pages or a chapter and didn't miss anything.Deadly Reign sounded like the two books Angel and Dutch:The first of trilogy. Dutch Angel were rolled in to one forming "Deadly Reign". Deadly Reign sounded like the two books Angel and Dutch:The first of trilogy. Although I am still a fan I'll say try harder next time

In the first book of the Reign series, the readers are introduced to siblings Damian, Dorian and Princess. They are one of the richest African American families, who have multiple businesses, funded by their illegal activity. Throughout the book, it appears as if the Reigns are up against other members of the Commission, when in actuality they are fighting amongst themselves. Many believe that Damian is the worst of them all, when in actuality, it's their sister Princess.

As if that isn't enough, the FBI is trying to infiltrate their business by sending in Agent Grace Moore. What no one expected was for her to fall in love with eldest brother, Dorian.

I have been hearing about this book for years, and finally got around to reading it. Thank God for reading challenges, that encouraged me to read what I got. This is the type of book that made me fall in love with Urban Fiction. My favorite character was Dorian and my least favorite was Princess. If you haven't read this series, please add it to your TBR list.

Originally read in 2005 and I loved it.

Started re-reading on April 1, 2016 since I discovered Caleb Alexander (the supposed true author...which may have some truth since it took YEARS to get the end of this series (I still haven't read Book 3) and the final novel in the trilogy is a novella. i think I read somewhere that it was less than 200 pages where the first and second books were well over 300 pages.

I loved other books by Teri Woods. So I'm surprised to feel this way about Deadly Reigns.
The characters weren't fleshed out. I didn't care what happened one way or another.
A lot of repetition and... No background on the characters. Like how and why were Princess and Dante the way that they were?
Grace was a mess. An FBI agent that was crying and shaking every two minutes?
I get being scared. But, whatever.

This is in regards to the audiobook, the screaming early in the book literally hurt my ears.
To me it sounded like the screaming clipped the audio recording.
Did not finish listening to this audiobook so can’t say how the book was.

Damian and Dante are cold blooded. I thought for sure that Damian was faking the funk, but he really was playing Grace...now a baby is involved...this is going to be a good mess

This book was really good. I though Grace was stupid though. Even if she did fall in love With Damien, she shouldn't have followed through with it. She knew the fami was dangerous, and her being an FBi agent should have told her something as well. Then she goes and turn in her badge for someone she know is a crook. She wasn't thinking.

Interesting. I was really intrigued by the characters and their actions. The book definitely kept my interest. I have just started reading more urban books. I like this author because you get gritty details without being overly graphic. For those of us who are unfamiliar with the street life and drug cartels, Teri Woods paints an excellent picture.

I liked the story, but the horrible spelling, punctuation, plot sequencing, etc. were this book's downfall. I would like to know how the story ends, but not enough to read the books. Fool me once, shame on you.
