She’s new in town. She stumbles upon a murder. If only she could remember who she is.
Heather hoped her memory would return quickly after a car accident, but a week later she still can’t remember a single thing. Fortunately, a new friend arranges for her to live and work at a local inn while she gets back on her feet.
When she arrives at the inn for the first time, she is greeted by a murder scene. But that doesn’t intimidate Heather. She immediately sets out to catch the killer, putting her brand-new sleuthing skills to the test.
However, her main concern is to figure out why she was traveling without identification with a recent ex-convict who didn’t survive the crash.

Angela K. Ryan is the author of the Sapphire Beach Cozy Mystery Series, the Seaside Ice Cream Shop Mysteries, and the Cape Cod Cozy Mysteries. She writes clean, feel-good cozies for readers who love humor, lots of twists and turns, and happy-dance endings.
When she is not writing, Angela enjoys the outdoors, especially kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, snowshoeing, and skiing. She lives in Massachusetts and loves all four of the New England seasons, but she looks forward to regular escapes to the white, sandy beaches of southwest Florida, where her mother resides.
It is fitting that Angela’s series take place in fictitious seaside towns in Massachusetts and Florida. These small towns would be idyllic if it weren’t for all the bodies that keep turning up!
Angela dreams of one day owning a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel like the sweet pup in her Sapphire Beach Series, but she isn’t home enough to take care of one. So, for now, lives vicariously through one of her main characters, Connie.
I really enjoyed this debut cozy mystery. The protagonist has amnesia, and it’s interesting reading as certain events lead her to remembering certain things about her life. There’s good mystery which the author ties up at the end. I’m looking forward to the next story!
Heather returns to Sand Dune Shores to work at an inn her friend has gotten her a job at. However, upon arriving there she finds a murder has occurred and the victim was a person who would have been a co- worker in the gift shop where she is to work.
Fresh from helping solve a murder already, Heather can’t help but want to know what happened as she is still trying to regain her memory of who she is. She falls in love with the inn and it’s owners and after an awkward encounter with their son, the two of them start to investigate the woman’s murder. Suspects start to appear to be looked at and along the way she meets a lady across the street who becomes a good friend as well.
There are some surprising developments in this investigation they undertake and Heather also learns about some skills she has which she wasn’t aware of because of her missing memory. Things race towards the thrilling conclusion and another missing part of her life is revealed at the end which will come in handy in the next book in this series I am sure!
I enjoyed this book and heartily recommend it to everyone who loves cozy mysteries! I look forward to finding out who Heather really is when her memory is restored and what she was doing before the car accident caused her to lose her memory.
I believe this will be an exciting series full of characters you will want to get to know better! I know I’m looking forward to reading these upcoming books for sure!
Just finished the first book in Angela Ryan's Cape Cod Mysteries Series! I have read 2 of her other series, Sapphire Beach Cozy Mysteries & Seaside Ice Cream Shop Mystery Series! Heather was introduced in the last book released of the Seaside Ice Cream Shop Mysteries. She was injured in a car accident where the driver was killed & she has no memory before waking up in the hospital with no idea who she is & why shis!)!was in the car with the driver who was killed. Her psychologist, Mary Beth gets her a job at the Sand Dune Inn, a beautiful resort in Sand Dune Shores. As Heather arrives on the bus in town, she doesn't see Mary Beth who was supposed to pick her up. She sees no payphones & without. A cell phone, she isn't sure what to do. Jake, the son of the owners of the Sand Dune Inn walks up & asks her if she is Heather. He tells her that Mary Beth couldn't pick her up due to an emergency at the hospital & he was there to take her to the Inn. As they pull up to the Inn, there are police cars & an ambulance in front of the Inn. Jake stops the car & tells her that he has to go check on his parents. As Heather wanders around near the police tape, she sees the body of a woman on the ground. She also sees Detective Blaney who was the investigating police detective for the car accident she was in. He has been harassing her & saying she is faking her memory loss. Elizabeth & Joel come out & go over to Heather & tell the police that Heather is coming inside with them.
As Elizabeth & Joel talk with Heather about her new job & get her settled in, Detective Blaney is still very skeptical about Heather's memory loss & warns Jake she could be a danger to his parents! (What a jerk he is!) Jake is determined to find out who killed Gwen & Heather tells him about helping solve a murder back in Sapphire Beach the week before.
It is a fun read & I read it in about 5 hours! I couldn't put it down until I found out who killed Gwen & why!
Having just been in a major accident, Heather does not remember who she is, or where she was going and why. She is befriended by her therapist, Mary Beth who gets her a place to live and a job while she tries to remember. She is to stay at the Sand Dune Inn on Cape Cod. Upon arriving on the cape, she is met by the Inn owners' son, Jake to take her to the Inn. Upon getting to the Inn, there are police cars all over the place since now there is a murder at the Inn, Gwen who was employed there. While Jake goes in to check on his parents, Elizabeth and Joel, the detective who had been harassing her about her memory loss, who was investigating her car accident started his harassment again. Elizabeth and Joel came out and took Heather in and explained her new job to her, saving her from the detective. Jake decided he had to find out who killed Gwen and why while Heather told him she can help since she was able to solve a murder in Sapphire Beach the week before. This was a fast, fun read that I read in one sitting. There are a few discrepancies since Heather doesn't have her memory. I can't wait to see what will happen next! I recommend this first book in this series and can't wait for more! I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
After a car accident, all Heather knows about herself is that she is an artist. She doesn't know how long she's been making her art or what she previously did to make money. She doesn't remember her name, where she lived, whether she's involved with someone or if she has parents or siblings. Even her name is made up. Through the help of a new friend and a local church, she's been getting help to get a job and a place to live until she, hopefully, gets her memory back. Luckily, she gets both a job and a place of her own from a very nice couple who own a B&B/hotel with a restaurant and gift shop, where Heather is now employed. Just as she arrives at her new home/job, it's discovered that one of the restaurant employees has been murdered. Heather feels grateful to and protective of Elizabeth and Joel, the proprietors of the B&B, so she and their son, Jake, decide to try to find the killer. There's no gore, colorful language, smoldering glances, snark, or embarrassing situations. Just a good, clean mystery. I will continue reading this series.
In this spin off of the Seaside Ice Cream Shop mystery series Angela K. Ryan introduces us to Heather. A young lady who has amnesia as the result of an accident. With no identification or cellphone found with her, the only clue she has to her past life is she was riding with an ex-convict. She decides to settle in the town of Sand Dune Shores, where it was discovered she had a reservation before she lost her memory to see if she can figure out ehonshe is. Upon her arrival, there is a dead body beside the Inn where she's been able to get work. During her free time, she sets out to solve the murder. With an eclectic group of suspects, Heather and Jake, the inn owners' son, join forces to figure out who killed a member of the inn's staff. With a threat made against her life to stop investigating, and the memory that she was an artist, Heather and Jake make some surprising discoveries before the killer is captured.
This was a fun and fast paced cozy mystery. Heather, who suffers from amnesia, moves into an inn on the shores of Cape Cod and gets a job at the inn's gift shop. Heather had earned a reputation as an amateur sleuth after she helped solve a murder earlier in the year in another town. She ends up involved in another murder investigation when the body of Gwen Kelly , an employee at the same gift shop where she was hired to work, is discovered outside the inn. Heather joins forces with Jake, the son of the inn's owners to look into the murder. There are several suspects. Who killed Gwen and why? Will Heather recover any memories of her past life? Read this engaging book to find out the answers to these questions. I highly recommend it to other cozy mystery readers. I received an ARC of this book, and the opinion expressed is strictly my own.
A Back and Forth Mystery Heather hoped her memory would return quickly after a car accident, but a week later she still can’t remember a single thing. This book was a case of whodunit in the back and forth mystery. It started with Heather arriving on the scene of a murder that she couldn't possibly have anything to do with. And it ends with multiple suspects and only one culprit. I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. This in no way affects my opinion of this book.
Angela Ryan has created a delightful new town and cast of characters. Heather needs to discover her identity and why she was traveling with an ex-convict. An endearing couple, Joe and Elizabeth, own the Sand Dune Inn. They provide a home and job for her. When Gwen, one of the inn’s staff, is found murdered, Heather and Jake, Joel and Elizabeth’s son, look for clues. Mary Beth, Detective Blaney, Gavin, Anna and Sydney all play a part in Heather’s adventure as she and Jake solve Gwen’s murder. I look forward to the next book in the new series as Heather continues to search for her identity and becomes involved in further mysteries.
This is the third series I have enjoyed written by Angela K Ryan and it does not disappoint.
We get to experience two mysteries - the murder at the inn but also who is Heather?
The main character Heather has lost her memory in an accident. To heal and go foreward in her life she gets a job at the Sand Dune Inn. Having an eye for details, Heather and her new friends, starts an investigation to find the culprit.
Will Heather succeed before anyone else gets hurt? Enjoy this book and find out - perhaps she remembers something about herself too.
A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.
Corpse at a Cape Cod Inn is book #1 in the Cape Cod Cozy Mysteries series by Angela K. Ryan.
Heather has no memory after a car accident. She’s been given a job and a room at an inn to start over. It doesn’t start well when they’re a murder as she arrives at the inn.
I couldn’t put this down! I love the setting of an inn at the beach. The characters are interesting and Heather developed good relationships in a short time. The puppy is cute. I figured out the guilty party just before it was revealed. I can’t wait to see what else Heather figures out about her previous life.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Heather was going to work in a gift shop the “Sand Dune Inn” at Sand Dunes Shore. She had survived a car accident and lost her memory. But as soon as she reaches the shop there is a murder of Gwen Kelly .She was staying with Elizabeth and Joel Hardings and their son Jake is sceptical about her. Heather had solved a murder mystery before and she had the skills to solve this one too. A lot of suspense and a very exciting finish to the read. I received this book free and leave a honest review . I recommend this book to other readers.
Heather may not know who she is but she is on her way to start a new job at the Sand Dune Inn. The doctors are hopeful that her memory will return but honestly admit it may never happen. When she arrives at the Inn, it is teeming with police responding to a murder. She helped to solve a murder case once before so maybe she can help with this one.
This story has a good mystery plot and relatable characters. I always enjoy cozies that include pets. I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary.
Great murder mystery full of suspense. Heather has lost her memory after a car accident. The driver died at the scene and Heather had no ID. A week after the accident, she is recovering from her injuries however she still has amnesia. Her therapist has found her a job and place to stay in a small beach town while they wait to see if her memory returns. When she arrives at the Inn the police are there as there's been a murder of one of the employees. Wonderful characters and setting for this captivating who dun it murder mystery.
Corpse at a Cape Cod Inn is a great start to an interesting, small town, cozy mystery series where the main sleuth has amnesia! Heather is an intriguing main character whose amnesia appears to be the series mystery. She walks into a new crime scene as she arrives at the inn in Sand Dune Cove to start her new job and life. This well written book held my interest as Heather works to solve this mystery and recover her memory. There are plenty of suspects to keep me guessing about the murderer's identity!
While traveling in New England with an ex-convict, Heather was in an horrific car accident that claimed her memory. She carried no identification and there was nothing in the vehicle to indicate her identity. Who is she? Why was she riding with the convict? And will she ever get her memory back? Those questions are all put on the backburner, as concurrent with her arrival at an inn the police are investigating a murder therein. Sure, memory loss is a bad thing to happen to someone - but being murdered is a wee bit worse.
Heather was in a car accident a few weeks ago. Though she wasn’t physically injured badly, she has no memory of who she is or anything about her previous life. While trying to get back on her feet, she will be living and working at a Cape Cod inn.She arrived at the inn to find that an employee of the inn has been killed. While she’s trying to figure out who she is, Heather sets out to find the killer. This book is filled with some wonderful characters, a spectacular setting, and a plot full of twists and turns! I can’t wait for the second book in this series!
This is the first book in the Cape Cod mystery series. I have never read anything by Angela K. Ryan before, OMG this was fantastic!! Heather was in a car accident and remembers nothing, not even her name. Heather is given a job at the Sand Dune Inn, to work in their gift shop. As she arrives at the Inn, a dead body is found. Gwen a gift shop worker was murdered, and Heather is a suspect. Is she guilty since she can't remember her past? Love the plot, great setting, and strong intense interesting characters. I can't wait to read more from Ms. Ryan!!!
I loved this book! I loved that the family was so welcoming of her even though she didn't have her memories and a murder had just happened which didn't help her case. I love how she is instantly willing to help solve the mystery and be there through the family. I love that she gets some of her memories back slowly and realizes she is a painter. I hate that she puts her life in danger to figure out who the murder is and how her friend is almost killed because she sees a text not meant for her. Overall a great book and will definitely continue the series.
This is a very interesting, enjoyable story. Added to a murder mystery is the unknown identity of "Heather". No one - including her - knows who she is or where she comes from. She gets an inkling of who she is in this book. I do not want to go into detail and give away spoilers. I want to highly recommend this book to you. I was fortunate enough to get a free ARC book with a promise of giving a true review. I can't wait for book 2!!
I thoroughly enjoyed the opening book of this new series. It features Heather, who has amnesia after a car accident. New friends find her a job at a gift shop while starting a new job while she tries to figure out who she is. Before she even starts work, somebidy is found dead. The character development was interesting, and I found the outcome a souprise, which is always good. Looking forward to the next book! I received an ARC, but this is my opinion.
I was happy to receive this book as an arc copy to discover more of the mystery of who Heather is. She is a character from a previous book by this author who had lost her memory due to a car accident and in this book learns more of her past while investigating a murder. The book has likeable and memorable characters. The setting is beautifully described and adds a lot to the feeling of the story. The mystery was well done. I cant wait for the next book to learn more about Heather.
Heather has just arrived at the Sand Dune Inn to start her new job only to see police tape and an investigation going on. One of the employees was murdered. With her amnesia from an auto accident she knows nothing about herself but she discovers little hints along the way. Great story with wonderful characters! I received an advance copy of this book from the author, however, I voluntarily wrote an honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
Heather has no recollection of her life before she was in an accident. Settling in at Cape Cod and investigating a murder of the inn's Gift Shop as she earns her room and board brings back a few memories. Jake the owners son helps her discover some memories. The friendship between Jake, his Dad Joel and his mom Elizabeth help Heather to find she's an artist....what else will she discover?
Stands on its own as a cozy mystery. It was a little slow going, no doubt the background setting up the amnesia. As a subgenre, the 'lost memories' can be a good component or a tired cliche. Can't decide which part of the debate I'm on, and there were moments in the book that I changed sides back and forth.. Nice characters, once the action picks up the book flows. Overall, this is a great way to kill a rainu day, or two.
This is one excellent mystery. The story is full of surprising high lights, interesting characters and a heroine you just can't help feeling drawn to. The location of the story is quaint and inviting. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and I look forward to reading more about Heather and her quest to discover who she is.
What a delightful start to a new series. Realistic characters, wonderful site for the characters to work and live in. Enough twists and turns to keep you guessing who the killer is. I didn't figure out who the killer was until that person was.exposed at the very end. I am looking forward to reading the next book.
I volunteered a honest review as I received an ARC copy of this book.
A great mystery unfolds after Heather arrives at her new job shortly after a murder occurs. Suspense abounds as Heather who is suffering from amnesia gets caught up in investigating the murder with the son of the inn’s owners. An entertaining story that captured my interest from cover to cover.
