Chasing Rainbows

Rate this book
Blinded by a childhood accident, Libby Rutledge melts the cynicism of Adam Bainbridge, a wealthy young man.

They grew up on a green-hilled estate in Virginia --- Winna, the perfect beauty; Libby, the auburn-haired favorite. Then a childhood accident left Libby to struggle for the rest of her life against towering physical odds.

Now she is an exquisite woman, an accomplished teacher, the mistress of her life --- only her heart has failed to recognize her triumph.

It remains for Adam Bainbridge to waken her. Slowly, he is drawn away from his cynical world of tarnished wealth and into that of a brave young woman. He teaches her how to ride; she teaches him how to live.

But Libby's silver-blond sister is back in town. And the lovers have to learn about chasing rainbows, how once you think you've caught hold of their shining tails --- that's just when they fade away.

I will sometimes read a really good book more than once. Chasing Rainbows is one of those books. I've read it twice many years ago and several years apart. I LOVE this book. A love story, a little suspenseful, and all about the human condition! I love the characters Libby, Adam, and Sebastian. Can't wait to read it again!!

At best it was unmemorable. At worst, secondary characters are ciphers. It also has some dated stereotypes around blindness, such as people they're in relationships with rescuing them or being brave for doing so.

I was enjoying this book but it had a poor ending that let it down
