The art is pretty, and the first chapter had me excited about the volume. BUT there were too many elements that were not up my alley. I haven't read a ton of the dom/sub universe stuff, but all the stuff I've read so far has been mid.
So the main trope is miscommunication. I don't mind it. I love some good miscommunication. But when characters are acting in opposition of how they feel...meh. Kinda gross. But then the mc is kind of oblivious (inexperienced 🥲), and the ml is cold. Meh. Combined with a lot of the smut being off-screen? Weird. I didn't mind it if they were focusing more on some emotional development. But I found that lacking for my taste. It just felt like the focus was on penetrative sex being the goal kinda vibes 😬🙄
Issues I had with the manga:
The ml tells the mc he's not gonna stop during penetrative sex. Even though a safe word was established, in the end, the mc didn't end up using it. I feel like it was some kind of message that the ml didn't violate the mc's boundaries 🤔😐😕 But the ml knows he's done wrong. I was just icked out how it was glossed over, especially when steps were taken between them to make sure that the mc was comfortable.
There were also some side characters that kind of changed my mood on the work overall. There was a set of twins in a relationship with one man. And apparently, they've known this man since they were children. 🤔 Just being flashed this information just left me feeling less enthusiastic about the story overall. Just reads like pure smut. I don't mind smut. But the single-minded drive to get off just permeates the story. Shut your brain off material.
Am I a hater for reading smut and expecting more....probably 🤔
This was really cute. The beginning was a little corny and the tier system I feel makes the dynamics a little more complicated than necessary, but overall I enjoyed this. I wish we got to know Aoha a little better. We're mostly in Shino's head/perspective so we see a lot of his feelings and struggles and don't get to see too much of Aoha. I liked that we see Aoha have feelings for Shino pretty early on though. I'm hoping the sequels will go deeper into their relationship and Aoha as a person.
Although this story is cliche, I really loved it! We follow Shino, who is a sub with a low self-esteem and undetermined tier having a chance run-in with triple S-tier dom, Aoha. As they spend more time together, they realize their high compatibility and their feelings begin to grow. However, Shino thinks Aoha won’t return his feelings given their large difference in tiers, causing some unexpected misunderstandings.
I surprisingly found Shino relatable. He has low self-esteem due to his tier and his prescribed medication makes him feel worse than they should. I loved his expressions, especially his chibis and how his first meeting with Aoha came with so many restraints. Aoha, on the other hand is quite non-expressive but we did get a few panels of him profusely blushing and yeah, that was enough for me. I loved the dynamics these two have, because Shino is an overthinker and Aoha helps balance it out by just going straight for what he wants.
There is a bit of drama in this volume and I’m not sure if it was needed. Though, given how Shino and Aoha met, their lack of communication was understandable. They both basically grew feelings while in a relationship meant for mutual benefits. That said, it’s resolved pretty quickly, although I wasn’t a fan of how it was approached. I think it could have been handled differently and didn’t need to be so rushed or inconsiderate.
There are very few side characters but I also hear they have their own manga stories which are currently not translated. Again, unfortunately. Shino’s friend, Flora is my favorite! They are a switch leaning sub who is very supportive and protective of Shino. Kureha and the twins were also very kind and I’m honestly kind of interested in their story because it looks fluffy based on the small flashbacks we get.
The artwork is quite nice and expressive. It’s detailed with iconography, backgrounds and a handful of scenic moments. The scenery changes a lot in this manga but it surprisingly didn’t conflict with the character emotions or story. Honestly I liked this art style because it felt engaging. Though I will mention that I disliked when the manga depicts Shino as more handsome without his glasses. As a glasses user myself, we look perfectly pretty with our without our glasses!
Overall this was a good read, although cliche, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It makes the story predictable so it’s always a good choice to read when you need something fluffy and comfortable. I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of this series and hopefully the spin offs translated.
