After being forced to say their goodbyes to Selene, Chise and Teto return to the Wasteland of Nothingness with heavy hearts. To curb their loneliness, the pair preoccupy themselves with building a new home and aiding Prince Gyunton in breaking a secret network of slavers operating in Gald. Their work is put on hold, however, when a strange drain on Chise’s mana restoration project in the Wasteland reveals a precursor ruin practically underfoot! Home and garden will have to wait! Adventure calls, and waiting in those sunken vaults, an enigmatic new friend in need of mending—a task that may prove impossible even for Chise.
Much like previous volumes, an entertaining light-hearted slice-of-life story about Chise and Teto trying to make the world a better place through adventure, exploration and at times a little crafting. The focus of the story lies on their (long term) new companion, which according to the author is mostly a new addition to the book as opposed to the web novel. Considering the importance of the characters for a story like this, I think that was a great choice. So the characters are entertaining, the world crafted well enough if fairly standard and the main characters do not really face much of a true challenge. Personally I like these kind of stories, but they are not for everybody, than again, if you got to volume 4, you probably do as well ;)
