Apocalypse Blockers #17

A Zombie Bit Myffanie

Rate this book
DEAR GOD A ZOMBIE BIT MYFFAINE!

All merry hell breaks loose and life as we know it is in danger of being snuffed out from the planet on what is otherwise not too bad of a Tuesday.

Barry and Myfanie have to negotiate a Zombie apocalypse in an effort to save the market value of the house they bought in Ptthwit five years ago.

An accident in a nearby cosmetics laboratory has unleashed a zombie horde onto the village, one that may take over the entire planet if they don't stop it, or worse completely wipe out the extra value Barry's Garage extension put onto their property.

Simon carr is, well he is me, hello. I write comedy Sci-fi and horror books. I started writing in 2018. I am severely dyslexic, on the very high end of the scale. So, writing a book was just me being defiant really, doing something I ought never to have been capable of doing.

I really enjoyed writing my first book, Space And Stuff, so I carried on writing. That makes it sound a lot simpler than it was, but after a lot of learning and editing; so much editing! And going through proofreaders at a rate of knotts, I got my books to a standard that only made a few grammar Nazis heads explode; so it will have to do.

I am from Blackburn in the UK, born in the summer of 1976. I have actually won three awards for my books, I know! I was as surprised as you are. If perfect grammar is your thing then you might want to give them a miss, but if you like satire and goofy scenarios I might be what you have been looking for.

I don't know how, but somehow Simon Carr managed a magnificent feat of serendipity with this release: if it wasn't meant as a satire on the Covid Pandemic, it still fit the bill just perfectly. As with other works by this author, the pacing is superb, and the wit, while definitely not suitable for a younger audience, is sharp as a zombie-slaughtering axe. A no-questions-asked five stars.

Barry is my hero!!! Also I’ve never heard so many terms for a place a lady could hide a lava lamp.

This is such a fun book and Barry is so straight laced, the juxtaposition really adds to the excitement. The characters are so pleasant, they’re all lovely, except the brigadier. This is my favourite Simon care book yet. They just keep getting better and better

Barry and his beloved wife myfanny set i’ll to live through what they think it’s just another Tuesday. It isn’t until Barry who is a doctor in the emergency room at the local hospital gets out of surgery and notices were there are usually people they have absolutely none that is until he notices zombies coming down the hallway of his hospital. He calls Myfanny from the car and tells her to lock all the doors and wait for him. His plan is to go to swarthy where his brother works at the communicable disease headquarters, but by the time Barry gets home zombie has bitten Myfanny. Thank God his brother Michael says he can help her as long as he gets there within 24 hours and he does. After Myfanny is cured and back to normal Barry and her and also a chemist named Amanda he picked up along the way set off to help the other villagers and this is where the adventure begins. Oh I absolutely love Simon cars wit. British humor has always been my favorite and add to that Simon cars riding style and you have lots of lol moments. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes to laugh out loud and doesn’t take anything too seriously. I didn’t know what this book would be about and I am also glad I read it. I now have downloaded six other books by Simon car he’s awesome !hom

Mr. Simon Carr writes the funniest stuff I have ever read. This new book is no exception. I am not a huge zombie fan, and the Horror/Comedy genre kind of confuses me but this book I LOVED!! The characters are great to laugh along with and to laugh at, but not because they are stupid (that would be mean) they're just funny. I can't believe some of the situations these people find themselves in! I thought the zombie thing was getting a bit old, it seems like everyone is putting them in their books and movies. Never underestimate Simon Carr, he has a great imagination! He proves you can teach an old zombie new tricks. Thank you Simon, I am SO glad you are willing to share your talent with us!

First off I’m a big fan of the author’s books. Second I’m not a big fan of zombie stories because most are human hamburger stories IMHO. That being said I really enjoyed reading this book it is very funny. The main characters are well developed with all their fears and foibles on display. The Welsh countryside is the stage and is detailed to the extent needed for the plot. The humor is dark but it still had me laughing aloud in many places. I thoroughly recommend this to all adult readers especially those that love zombie fiction.

Simon is a funny guy and his books show that he must have been the most fun kid to hang out with. His imagination is like no idea. The idea he comes up with!!!

Okay, once again, we got Zombies, but not your typical ones. There is a difference to how it goes down from alive to well.... Zombie. Come along and have some laughs/belly tickles as a couple people just try to save their little village without being eaten!

Zombies, Co-op employees making up names for customers, and farts. This book has all of that!! I couldn't stop laughing at times.

Rude, crude and hilarious. Zombies invading a Welsh village, insane soldiers, two of the dumbest heroes ever, talking cows, lots of gratuitous violence, what more could you want in a novel. It is rare a book makes me laugh out loud but this one did many times. Great dialogue. The story is well written and suitably ridiculous. I like this authors work his humour is as crude as mine. Highly recommended for a good laugh. I received a complimentary copy from storyorigin and am leaving a voluntary honest review.

I will start this review by saying, its the first time that I have a zombie flipping the bird to someone, this was a very amusing read, I laughed out loud quite a lot (I was doing my things around the house, and my family thought I went nuts hahah), its a very funny approach to a zombie apocalypse, Barrie is a ER doctor, but he and his wife reminds me very much of the couple in the old show “on the bus” hahah Barrie really despairs with his Myfanie. You even got cows that talk hahah thou It took a while for me to understand that they were actual cows hahah.

You have lots of action, and amusing descriptions, I highly recommend this story, even if you don’t like zombies, but like humour this book is really funny, and I would say, it is for a more mature audience.

I loved the people reading this book, they did the voices and gave lots of emotions to bring the story to life, and I did love that.

I got a free Audible code from the author in facebook and this is my honest opinion.

Simon Carr writes in an anarchic style that makes my inner proofreader crazy. Luckily, he makes me laugh enough to prevent my breakdown. If you can make it through the odd spelling, sometimes unusual grammar and punctuation, and occasional imaginary words you will find a raucous story about a cosmetics factory explosion creating fast zombies and the struggles of Barry and Myffanie (she's Welsh) trying to prevent a widespread zombie apocalypse. With the help of his brother, Michael, and a gas-stop store chemist (pharmacy tech at a truck-stop, for the British impaired) named Mandy, this group must battle zombies while trying to provide a cure. But, they also must stop a Brigadier General who prefers his plan to carpet bomb the area despite government orders. Add in car explosions, a walk in freezer, talking cows, and a lava lamp and you know it's A Simon Carr story.

I find Simon Carr's stories entertaining and this one was no exception; however, I did have to work my way past the first chapter where the posterior cracks got a bit much. The author's creative twist to the zombie apocalypse genre was unique and I enjoyed the story. I liked the way the author took an ordinary couple who were just trying to save the property value of their home and pitted them against a zombie hoard. I recommend this novel to others with the caveat that there was foul language utilized and some of the humor was excessive. I was very entertained by the use of three narrators, Taff Girdlestone, Noni Lewis, and Emma Clarke. They all did an excellent job and their performance added to the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily posted this review.

This novel appeared to be written as a dry satire, and taken that way it is really a good read, and a sigh of relief after our own struggles through our own on-going pandemic. A good read for all. And I really enjoyed this author’s style of writing. The author spins a great read and I would definitely recommend it to others to read. I gave this honest, voluntary review after being given a free copy of the novel.

Welcome to another hilarious world by Simon Carr where property values matter...even if zombies are trying to take over. I literally laughed out loud multiple times. I highly recommend this story and really anything written by Simon Carr. Audio Version: Using three narrators is a gamble in my opinion but it really worked for this story! Taff Girdlestone, Noni Lewis, and Emma Clarke all did a great job bringing the story and hilarity to life.

I received a free audiobook copy in exchange for a review.

What a story! What a narration! I loved both so much!

The only thing I wasn’t/am not a fan of is when authors have the dialogue tag before the dialogue. For example, “She mumbled…” or In a soft voice, she said…” That’s just me, though. Otherwise, this story was hilarious and the male narrator, Taff Girdlestone, did an awesome job!

I can’t listen to more stories by both the author and the narrator.

Again, this is Carr at his finest! I know I've said that before, but this book is absolutely hilarious, full of everything that's makes Carr brilliant. It's surprising, funny as can be, and just utterly insane--but insane in a great way! I loved this book, and i really recommend it!

When an explosion occurs in a cosmetics factory in a small town in the welsh valleys it unleashes a zombie apocalypse on the unsuspecting residents. This is the story of Barry and Myffanie’s struggle to escape and to save the town from destruction.

Laugh out loud funny from start to finish. Simon Carr has accurately captured the British/Welsh sense of humour with the arguing and bickering between the main characters whilst weaving it into a farcical plot that keeps you entertained throughout.

I loved the cows

The narrator fits perfectly with the story and helps to bring it to life with welsh accents that make full use of the dialog.

This is definitely one of the author’s best titles

A Zombie Bit Myffanie

Written by Simon Carr

Narrated by Taff Girdlestone, Noni Lewis, and Emma Clarke.

I received a copy of the audio version of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Barry and Myffanie are perfectly content, going about their day-to-day business, keeping themselves to themselves. They are lucky enough to now live in the picturesque Welsh valley, in the small town of Ptthwit. Unfortunately, an explosion at a Cosmetics lab nearby, sets off a chain of events that find poor Barry and Myffanie totally unprepared.

As I have listened to several other audiobooks by the brilliantly talented Simon Carr, I had an idea what to expect and was not disappointed! From the outset until the resolution, I laughed out loud at the quips and puns included. A Zombie Bit Myffanie is impossible to put down. I constantly had to listen to a little more and then some, even repeating certain parts to whomever I happened to be next to! The author has a side-splitting sense for a plot, characterization and creating cleverly written humour. With a narrative that actively engages the reader in Barry and Myffanie’s quandary, funny scenarios, I very much recommend.

To add further to the imagination of the book, the audio version is brought to life by the amazing narrators. I LOVE the fact that there is more than one narrator, which in itself makes it unique, but Taff Girdlestone is one of the best I have had the pleasure to listn to. His natural skill to audibly act out the character’s lines plus his use of varied dialects is just pure genius.

The book is full of ribald wit but is light-hearted and fantastically entertaining. I can’t wait to read or listen to more from Mr. Carr.

I rate A Zombie Bit Myffanie 5 out of 5 stars.

Terrible Typis

An amusing story that is difficult to read because of typos, grammatical errors and names being switched (Alison instead if Dorothy).
