*****

It was supposed to be a ground-breaking demonstration but MELT - the plastic-eating enzyme that was set to end plastic pollution for good - runs amok, destroying everything in its path.

When the city - and world at large - begins to implode, Bill and Alice Everlee are caught on opposite sides of the divide.

Stuck at ground zero as the city begins to sink around her, Alice races to discover what is causing the disaster and how to stop it - if she can.

Meanwhile, having received a frightening warning from his wife, Bill hurries to pack everyone up at home before racing to a remote cottage in upstate New York to begin preparing for the coming storm...

Better than ever

In many ways this has been one of the best of Mike Kraus's series. While a plastic eating enzyme is not one of the more probable causes of an apocalypse, I think that can be forgiven because of its ancillary value in ringing the alarm about the microplastics saturating both the planet and humanity.

A great read as usual, even though the narrative lost its way a bit in book 9. I was also pleased to see that nagging flaws from earlier series have now vanished: an awkward avoidance of the issue of casual rape which inevitably precedes casual murder; a more balanced treatment of God in character's lives; and finally clearing up the irksome problem of homophones which plagued the earlier series. The only example I found in Melt was using "reign" instead of "rein". One of the problems with using speech to text apps, I guess.

I suspect some credit for these valuable improvements goes to Kate Pickford's co-authorship of the series. If so, well done that chap!

Captivating

An incredible Arthur! This book is about a strong family bond, forgiveness, Redemption, strength and willpower, and overcoming and letting go of past hurts in so much more. It's about people coming together and helping each other through a terrible apocalyptic event. It's about faith and trust, while their lives are up ended and a lot of the world being destroyed. It's a fast paced story that will draw you in and keep you captivated, you never know what's going to happen around the corner. This was an amazing story and I highly recommend this book and this Arthur, I will definitely be searching out for more stories buy this author. Happy reading!

Could have been more.

I really liked the storyline, however it needed a couple breaks in the action. Nobodies that unlucky. I had to remind myself more than once that I wasn't reading Lemony Snikett. I still gave it a four for storytelling and character growth. Overall I did like it. The "Crazy Ivans" really kept me reading. Once you think you have it figured out ......BAM crazy ivan!!

I love this series, right out of the gate!

This series was incredible! Unfortunately there are chunks that have many mistakes. Misspelled words name mixing that sort of thing. It’s throughout the whole book but only in chunks. As if one of the authors didn’t have time or didn’t care to proofread. It is very disappointing considering how good this series is.

Best series ever!

I had a hard time stopping reading to get anything done in my home. Ever page, every chapter had me wanting to keep reading. Every character was interesting and had me picturing what they looked like, and what their personality was all about. I can't wait to start another of Mike Kraus' series!

The many plot twists were epic! Loved that Alice worked for and got redemption after a horrible start. And the amazing twist that Bill was actually the twin's dad!
