Summer in the snow… Restaurant owner Summer Costello, reeling from recent failures in her perfect life, is hiding out in her childhood home. When she finds an injured dog outside in a snowstorm, she calls the local vet, who turns out to be her younger brother Declan’s best friend, gorgeous Nick Logan. She’s his secret crush–no woman Nick’s dated has matched up to the fantasy of being with Summer, the woman who blazed out of Brookbridge for a new life in London years ago. Now, a dog needs his aid, and despite treacherous conditions he drives out to help. She’ll be there with her boyfriend, and surely his infatuation will have burned itself out? Stranded in a snowstorm, Summer sizzles with attraction for the man Nick has become. And when Summer confides her long-term relationship is over, and suggests a clandestine fling, is there any way Nick can resist her, even though she’s the one woman Declan warned him to keep away from?
I fell in love with the Logan family in book one of this series. I'm a fan of Sally's work and this one does not disappoint. Summer finds herself snowed in with an injured dog and the town vet, who is also her brothers best friend, that's been in love with her his whole life. There's an undeniable attraction between these two from the start. This was a good read, flows well, and has great character development. A copy was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.
Having gone through some life challenging moments she escapes to her family home, during Christmas while they are in vacation. With the help of an injured stray she reconnects with an old friend of her brothers, the town vet. Lovely story, stuck together in the snow, saving the dog and acknowledging old crushes. The Ireland setting would have been fun with accents and some descriptions of the views.
I am sure everyone will agree with me when I say , when Christmas day has come and gone you still wish you could somehow get that warm, christmassy feeling back and keep it alive somehow.
I for one wish all year around that I could somehow capture that magic feeling, keep it in a bottle and open it when ever the year starts to feel a little too much. I am ecstatic to report I have found something even better!
Snowbound Summer was Christmas magic wrapped up with a big old red bow ready to be unwrapped again and again , no matter the time of year.
The read tells of Summer, reeling with regret over her failed business and the end of what seemed like the perfect relationship, she's back home and hiding out in her parents house. She wants nothing more than to consume as much chocolate and wine as possible and have some peace and quite.
But fate intervenes in the form of the most adorable dog ever written. Cold, trapped in the shed and clearly injured, is where Summer finds the dog that will ultimately become the best thing that has ever happened to her. She calls in the help of the local vet, only when she discovers he's none other than he brother's best friend, Nick, and that he has to stay the night due to one heck of a snowstorm, does she start to see him a whole new, sexier light, only she's not ready to tell him the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
As I said earlier this book was Christmas magic, from the miracle of saving furry friends lives to holiday romance blossoming and even Christmas day lunch giving way to a whole new meaning to " We really should be discussing this in private and not at the dinner table", it all came together beautifully.
I could not put the read down, from the opening scene right through till the end the author delivered romance entertainment ! Through the character of Nick she showed that we all have hopes and dreams and sometimes the only way to find out if we can make them happen is to take action and hope for the best outcome.
Through the character of Summer the author showed that we are all definitely human, we all make mistakes and we all get up and move on, yes it takes others longer to get over a mistake but eventually we get there. But more importantly there is no shame in failing, everyone does at some point and it's okay.
I am taking away a message of everything in life happens for a reason , and at the right time. Of course we none of it makes sense whilst it is happening, I mean would you think rescuing a dog would bring you the love of your life? I for darn sure would not even begin to think it, I love animals but adding that to romance , not the first thing that comes to mind at all.
But as with all life lessons it's afterwards the light always shines through and the meaning becomes clear, the trick is not to want to run and hide. It might be a natural instinct but it's the wrong approach try to see it for what it could be and not for the " This is so not what I need right now!".
I recommend this read for all fans of romance reads, it's the perfect pick me up read for anytime of year and definitely perfect for the holidays . The read will be keeping my christmassy feeling alive and well for the year that lies ahead.
A story about hope, love, understanding and acceptance.
4.5 star review "A lonely dog, a sexy vet and a Michelin star chef find happiness under the Christmas tree"
Once upon a time Summer Costello had it all. A wonderful family, a dream career, and wonderful boyfriend. Well, at least most of that was true. She thought once she made the move from her hometown in Ireland to London, that her life was even more perfect than it’d always been. Turns out, everything was not as it seemed, and after losing everything but the loving family (who had no idea about her recent failures, as she described them), she returned to her family’s home to spend the holidays alone, while her family vacationed in Spain. Her plans were derailed when she found an injured dog and called the vet to help her rescue him.
Turns out the new vet is Nick Logan, her younger brother’s hot best friend, who’s always had a thing for Summer. When a snowstorm strands the two together, alone with the Fella, the rescued dog, Nick finally gets to reveal the secret crush he’s always had on her.
The premise was actually pretty good, the delivery, however, extremely lacking. The entire plot seems forced, and there was not enough togetherness between the two prior to the revelation that each was extremely important to the other. Summer had no idea Nick had a crush on her, and although she’d never thought of him as another brother, she’d also never thought of him as more. The relationship was rushed, the timeline flawed, the problems too easily fixed, and some events were the offspring of cliche.
For instance, the dog was on the brink of death, but less than 12 hours later chased a rabbit- in the deep snow -at a speed that made it difficult for anyone to catch him. It seems like the two only spent one night together before Nick is offended by a lie she told to her parents; so offended that he’s ready to call the whole one-day relationship off without even questioning her or giving her a chance to explain. This is the epitome of cliche, just like the event where he thought she was with the ex-boyfriend (although she wasn’t) and instead of asking her, he gets attitude and drinks himself into oblivion, leaving her to wonder what was wrong. And, although he was mad just moments before, when he heard her simply tell his co-workers and friends at the Christmas party that she had just gotten out of a relationship (something he thought she’d lied about), he immediately dismissed his anger and got the hots for her, so much so that he had to take her outside, kiss her relentlessly, and then leave the party early so he can take her home and make love to her. Really?
I found the whole speaker-phone at the dinner table thing to be flat out ridiculous and far-fetched, even for fiction.
Parts of the book were enjoyable, but the story as a whole is totally lacking.
I have to say this was a fun fast moving short story. The best part is that the characters were enjoyable, believable, and engaging. You could actually see this very thing unfolding in your own family or to a friend. It seems there is always that one friend that is and always has been an over-achiever. That never ever saw the bottom rung of a ladder. They were always at the top. No one had to put them there they just were. Well, that was Summer Costello. She made everything in her life a competition. She had to be the best at everything. Most of the time it came naturally other times she did have put forth a little effort. So, when she told her family she was leaving Ireland for London to be a chef they knew she would be. Well it crushed her younger brothers’ friend Nick Logan who Declan knew he had a mad crush on his older sister. Because for as long as he could remember he had been in love with Summer. He would watch over her when she got herself in a pickle in those rare times she let her hair down. So, when he found out the family was going to London to the opening of her first restaurant he figured this was his opening. Nick knew she had a boyfriend but he had to declare his love once and for all. That night though she surprised them all by telling them all that this guy, Michael, that no one liked, she was moving in with him. Nick was crushed and made a decision right then and there that he was moving on and would no longer pine over her any longer. Now a year has passed and Nick is called out to care for an injured dog at the home of Declan’s parents but he knows they’re in another country visiting Declan. Nick arrives to find Summer there soon after and weeding through her lies he finds out she and her ex Michael have broken up. Yet, she doesn’t tell him the other big secret nor does he share his darkest secret with her. Can they build enough trust being snowed in to get to that point? You will have to read and find out. I totally enjoy this story. I give this 5 stars. Provided by Net Galley. Follow us at: www.1rad-readerreviews.com
Snowbound Summer by Sally Clements, is a steadily-paced love story between Summer Costello, a chef and former restaurant owner, and Nick Logan, a veterinarian and the best friend of Summer's younger brother. They have known each other for years and Nick has always felt a little something for the "always perfect" Summer. Summer returns to her parent's home after a failed long-term relationship and the demise of her beloved London restaurant. She keeps these failures to herself, in order to find the right moment to tell her family. Spending time alone while her parent's are away, is just what she needs to regroup. Her plans quickly change when she discovers a wounded, stray dog during a snow storm. Nick happens to be in the vet office that early snowy morning and answers Summer's phone call for help. He carefully drives through the storm in order to save the dog. Nick is not only smart and good-looking, he is also known as the town's pet whisperer, and always goes out of his way for his patients.
This is both a hot and sweet holiday romance. Summer and Nick have a fiery chemistry and Ms. Clements evolves their relationship with a unique blend of discovery, warmth and desire. These two characters transported me to Brookbridge, Ireland, and I especially liked the author's use of the country's colloquialisms. Summer and Nick are well-defined as well as interesting, and I could not get enough of them.
Ms. Clements's nicely combines excitement, heat, and unfolding honesty into this holiday read. I immediately connected with both Summer and Nick, and there was never a moment that I did not want them to be together. The secondary characters, including the dog Fella, are essential in their own right and add some dimension to the plot. I was fortunate to have enjoyed the first two books in the series and recommend them as well. Overall, another solid read from author Sally Clements.

3.5 stars. This was a sweet, undemanding read that turned out precisely as I expected. Summer has always been a perfectionist, so when her life falls apart she slinks back home to Ireland to lick her wounds, knowing her parents’ house will empty for Christmas. Intending to hide away in secret, her plans are altered by the appearance of a wounded stray dog and the arrival of the hunky vet, who just happens to be her little brother’s best friend.
Nick’s always had a crush on Summer, but since she's older – and his best friend’s sister – he’s never thought he had a chance. Until now. Thanks to some heavy snowfall and a newly discovered chemistry it seems like Nick’s Christmas wish is about to come true… or is it?
Combining a long-held crush with a sweet dog in need of help, and a woman whose life is all set to change, this romance doesn’t do anything unexpected or amazing. Instead it’s cosy, warm and familiar, with some sweetness, a little bit of heat, plenty of chemistry and some miserable misunderstandings. Summer could do with keeping fewer secrets, while as lovely as Nick was he also had a habit of jumping to the wrong conclusions, but on the whole this was sweet.
A quick, enjoyable read full of Christmas cheer, chemistry and a nice romance, all set in Ireland for a nice geographical change. I might have to check out the rest of this series.

I love Sally Clements brand of Irish romance, whatever the season. If the title SNOWBOUND SUMMER seems like a bit of a contradiction, I can only say that this book is proof of the principle.
Summer, the heroine, comes home to Ireland in the dead of winter to escape after having lost her partner and her business in one swift blow. Her folks are gone away for the holidays, which suits her just fine as she’s not up for a pity party and she’s snowed in up to her neck. Then she comes across an injured dog and calling the vet isn’t an option –it’s the need of the hour. And who is the vet only her younger brother’s friend, the one whom she once saw as a nuisance, while he thought she was the epitome of sophisticated unreachability. Can things get any worse? Yes. They get snowed in and…..I’m sure you get the picture.
A quality Irish romance read with some heartwarming moments, not to mention the LOL factor. I thoroughly recommend this read – like I said earlier – whatever season you happen to pick up this book in.

This was my first book by Sally Clements although I do have several of her books on my TBR list.
Although this book is part of a series it is not necessary to have read any of the other books before you read this one.
I really enjoyed that this book was set in Ireland. It was very refreshing to read something by a non-U.S. author that wasn’t set in the U.S.
Nick is the best friend of Summer’s brother and he’s a couple of years younger than she is. He’s been crushing on her since they were teens but she didn’t know that. Summer has been busy building the perfect life with the perfect job and perfect boyfriend. Unfortunately it all comes crashing down and she’s afraid to admit her failure to her family.
Nick, a veterinarian, helps Summer save a badly mistreated dog she found on her parents property. She finds herself attracted to him even though she doesn’t want a relationship. Nick, who has never wanted a lasting relationship, now finds that a relationship is exactly what he wants with Summer.
This was a nicely paced story with a good amount of hot sexy time. I look forward to reading more books by this author.

Summer has come home, in secret, with her tail tucked between her legs. A failed romance and a failed business has her hiding at her parents home while they are on vacation to take a breath and take stock of where she is. Nick Logan is the local vet who has had a crush on her for forever. Enter an injured dog that brings them together. While the story is sweet and Nick is swoon-worthy, Summer was a little harder to read for me. A strong, independent woman capable of starting her own business does not seem to be the type to cower and run. I wanted her to be stronger, more determined, in other words - a better match for Nick. All in all - sweet and cute.
I was given a gifted copy by Story Cartel in exchange for an honest review. A sweet love story. Summer Costello has everything a woman can wish for: a perfect man, a perfect job and a perfect life. Her whole life had been full of success till she loses everything and she doesn’t know how to deal with failure as it is the first time she fails at anything. She decides to spend Christmas at her parents' while they are away with his brother. Once there she finds an injured dog and she calls a vet who happens to be his brother's best friend Nick Logan. A quick reading about success and failure, about trust and self-confidence, about deception and acceptation. I would recommend this book, although it needs some editing.
Summer is struggling with a failed marriage and business and hiding out in her childhood home. When she finds an injured dog outside in a snowstorm, she calls the local vet, who turns out to be her younger brother Declan’s best friend, gorgeous Nick Logan.
Nick of course has always had a thing for summer but could never act on it because she is his best friends little sister. Now, the dog needs his help, and despite a crazy snowstorm he drives out to help.
Stranded in the storm, things start to heat up for summer and Nick.
I enjoyed the characters and the dog they saved. Though the conflict is rather contrived and hokey, I still enjoyed this sweet romance.

This is a sweet, feel good romance. The lesson to be learned is to always be truthful. Lies only complicate things that don't need to be complicated. Summer was so afraid of being judged a failure that she didn't give the people that loved her a chance to understand what she was going through. With the help of an injured dog and a snowstorm, Nick just might have the chance to tell her how he's always felt about her.
Loved it! Who wouldn't fall in love with a gorgeous, sexy, Irishman. Great story that warms the heart with all that cold snow falling from the sky in Ireland. The story was well written and had me hooked from beginning to end.
At first it seems more of the same: 2 people who, despite they decided to only have 'sex, not lovemaking', fall in love. Two people with bad experiences in love and relations struggle against falling in love. But it is a very nice book to read. And I like it that the main characters of the first 2 books of this series also play a (small) part in this book. Thank you, Sally Clements, for giving me the chance to read it!
The rest... yeah, I'm not such a fan of Clements' writing style, as I said before, it's not extraordinary. This book is, I think, the best one out of the three. Why? Cause Nick is just awesome!! Man, I love him. But Summer??? I mean, hey, she's a bitch. What is he doing with someone like her??
And their families? Great!! I wanna have such a Christmas :D
I've read all of this series and have enjoyed them.
The books aren't very long & parts of this story could have been expanded to make a better read (the business in London, her problems with the ex boyfriend etc) but overall it was a nice easy read with good characters.
I received a copy of Snowbound Summer for an honest review. The story was little slow at times. Overall, I loved this story of unrequited love. Good read.
