American Falls: Poems

Greg Keeler's American Falls could very well be titled "The Best of Greg Keeler." It brings back into print poems from his two previous collections, Spring Catch (1982) and The Far Bank(1985), but it also collects the "keepers" from Keeler's most recent work. It may be that Keeler speaks for everyone who loves the wilderness West, particularly the magic of famous rivers like the Madison, the Yellowstone, the Gallatin, and the Snake. Or it may be that Keeler simply has the uncommon ability to raise humor, sentiment, and violence to the level of art. Whatever the reasons, Keeler has quickly devoloped a loyal following of housewives, fishermen, forest service employees, students, musicians, tourists, teachers, too many different kinds of readers to name. Those who know Greg Keeler from reading him will find their faith restored here. Those who meet him in this volume for the first time will find them selves discovering a writer full of compassion and insight, one who already ranks among our best.

Excellent poems: humor, insight, imagery, and words in the best possible order to say something significant is what I ask of a poet. Keeler delivers.
