If you are looking for a low spice, quick read, HEA, with steam-punk elements, this is the book for you!
Tortured werewolf Reeve Lawson and the easygoing handsome Lord Rosewood couldn't be more different, but their connection is undeniable. An intriguing mystery afoot will keep you turning the pages, enjoying a good laugh in every chapter, and the kindness in Reeve's other relationships will warm your heart. There's some bloody fighting (because werewolves) as well as a passionate lovemaking scene so this book is not for the kids. The worldbuilding is really cool and the characters are both likeable and relatable. An excellent read that flows smoothly from beginning to happy end. If you like M/M shifter romance, go on and read this book. You won't be disappointed.
I really liked this book and both MC's are very lovable. The tension between them is great and the plot engaging. Therefore, this story gets 4 instead of 3 stars, rounding my 3.5 up.
So, now on to what I'd like to criticize. The world building itself is colorful and intriguing, no question about it, it was a fun concept, and I am quite smitten with it. Unfortunately, there are also many unanswered questions. Is this supposed to be a different world, an AU of earth or Sci-Fi? Where are humanities origins in this? Downside? Archeology is mentioned, but only in regards to supers. It's steampunk, but an explanation for the flying cities is missing. Historically und practically. I mean, otherwise they use steam engines and gas lights. Also, there isn't an explanation for the supers.
And for the last thing, but that's more a me-thing, a preference, - the epilogue. That was unnecessarily cheesy, I could have done without these two added cliches. They felt fake and added as an afterthought. I would have preferred something like a quiet moment between the MC's, or even one with the great secondary characters of their found family. Adding those two new elements at this late point felt just disruptive and actually spoiled my last moments of this story.
Overall, a book I really enjoyed, by a new to me author. Not without flaws, but I'll definitely have to take a look at their other stories. 😄
A paperback of this book was sent to me as a part of this Christmas book swap thing that I did. I liked the cover and found it on ku so I decided to give it a go. I thought the editing was good and I really liked the story overall. The romance while being instalove was well done and I thought what was shown if the world was really interesting. I just wish more of the world was shown and I wish the book had been longer and that the timeline had been stretched more. I just feel like I needed more time for the story to cook. Also, whilst I love a baby epilogue this one felt like it came out of nowhere, it needed to be explained a lot more. Over all I really liked the book. My qualms were definitely minor.
Shifted Fate tells a story of the shifter Reeve as he meets Lord Rosewood—a seemingly human individual who he immediately bonds with—and fights to rationalize his feelings as well as some shady secrets going on in his city.
I’m always a sucker for shifter fiction as I’ve mentioned before. This was a refreshing twist! It has a unique city structure and species interactions as well as characters that truly hit home. I enjoyed this thoroughly from start to finish.
An endearing story with gripping action that comes along as our main character, Agent Lawson, meets conflict within his inner self, his job obligations and his fated attraction. The imaginative steampunk world, the gripping animalistic changes, kept me turning pages to find out what would happen next. Would read again :)
It was a great start for me to go back to reading books and not just fanfictions XD I would have loved a bit more of the investigation process to then try and figure out who the real culprit is along with Reeves. But I still enjoyed the read! I loved how Reeves is panicking around Lord Rosewood and how it slowly builds, how they talk and are with each other. A very sweet read.
This book is recommended for readers 18+ due to adult content.
The world building is great. The steampunk aspect could be stronger. The relationship between the MCs is an instalove kind of situation, but I could still have used more development in it.
