Twelve billion dollars gone. A missing financial mastermind. Violent murders all over the globe.
Former Chicago PD cold case detective, Emily Tizzano, has been out of the game after her last case, licking the mental wounds she sustained to save a federal prosecutor, but now she’s back to hunt down the missing money, and more importantly, the person responsible for stealing it.
But this is a case the likes she’s never seen before…
Faced with a financial mastermind who has disappeared off the face of the planet but whose long reach is managing to kill off everyone who is a threat to her, Emily knows law enforcement can’t move quick enough to save more lives.
Maybe she can.
As the case progresses, it becomes personal, more personal than even Emily thought possible.

This story begins with the tale of an individual who became a victim of a crypto currency Ponzi scheme. He initially invested a bonus check and his return was great. His friend who had told him about the opportunity convinced him to put all of his savings in as well. Based on the return that he was now earning, he bought a new house. Later his friend told him that it seemed that the investment company took off with everyone's investment. Chuck, the husband had not told his wife of the problem, and the closing on the house was scheduled for the next day. Chuck took the only way out and killed himself.
Emily discovered through a friend about what happened. Emily going through her emails had a lot that wanted her help for the same reason. Emily finally decided that she would look into finding the company head, Vasso, since the Government agencies were not having any luck. Emily went to NYC where the company was located. She was staying with her sister while in NYC. Emily's sister Angelica went on the quest to see what they could find in the company's office.
After making a major discovery they went back to Angelica's apartment. Emily did not notify the prosecutor, Aaron, who was handling the case. Things went downhill from there.
To learn what events Emily wound up handling, how the discovery in the office was made and how it all worked out in the end, then you need to read this book.
When a friend loses a family member as a result of an investment scam, Emily Tizzano, former Chicago PD detective turned vigilante, is off on another great adventure. This time the danger hits a bit too close to home when Emily’s sister becomes involved. This full-throttle adventure has it all, a con artist, a kidnapping, hitmen, organized crime, flying bullets, and even a plane crash. Can Emily save the day? This one will keep you up all night just to find out.
This is book five of the Detective Emily Tizzano Vigilante Justice Thriller series and Emily hasn’t even looked at any emails or thought of taking another series for months after her last difficult case, until she hears of a sudden death in the family of her local butcher Carl. He has always been good to her and her dog Miner, even inviting her to family events and he has been shocked by the sudden suicide of his cousin, leaving behind a wife and two young kids. She then finds out more and finds his death was linked to losing all the family’s money to a Ponzi scheme pretending to be a crypto currency investment scheme. Instead, the owner of Ploutos CryptoCurrency , Vasso Stamatea, had amassed some twelve billion dollars and hearing that the FBI were coming for her company, she warned everyone to bail. She had disappeared and nobdoy can find her, not even the FBI. Emily finally checks her emails to find there are lots of people who have contacted her, having lost their savings to this fake investment scheme. More stories are in the news about this scheme and how it has affected people, with some possibly going to be affected by clawback as well, even leading to others killing themselves in desperation!
Vasso seems to think she has done nothing wrong and wants to get back to the States and continue her business, but she can’t do that until there is no investigation into her. She therefore has to get rid of any loose ends and even wants the federal prosecutor out of the way. When Emily starts to investigate and gets in the way, she soon finds herself in danger far away from any friends she could call on to help her. The case soon gets very personal for Emily and she has to reach out in desperation for some assistance before she loses more than she can manage. Another cracking case for Emily and brings her right into something that’s all in the news in the real world as well. Cryptocurrencies and investments, along the lack of regulation within the industry, makes it far too easy for people to turn it for illegal purposes. We get to see her computer expert Mike, her father in law and even her pseudo doctor to all sister Angelica, in a case that pulls the heart strings, whilst also pushing Emily to the max to stop a very dangerous woman with no conscience. Lots happening in this storyline as a case far too close to home, affects people she knows and respects and she wants to see what she can do to help them. I always look forward to reading one of the author’s books, you can guarantee a great read and a complex case to boot. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
A former police officer in Chicago wrongfully terminated Emily Tizzano ostensibly lives a quiet life of walking her dog and taking her boxing lessons. What she does in reality is seek out justice for those who have nowhere else to go, on her own terms of course. This is a heart wrenching case as Emily is emotionally invested in it. A family member of one of her few friends is taken in and loses his life savings by a Ponzi scheme. When he kills himself because he can’t bear to face the failure that is now all around him Emily is struck by the pain of her friend and haunted by the new widow and two young fatherless boys. She starts to investigate but answers and leads are few, but questions are everywhere. The more she digs the more it looks like someone is cleaning up or covering up leads that might land them in prison. Emily is determined to succeed where everyone else has floundered, and when things hit very close to home her intensity skyrockets. Can she track down the mastermind before they disappear again? Gripping, edge of your seat thrill ride! Part of a series but holds up very well as a stand alone novel. I absolutely love Emily and her approach to justice. After being betrayed by those who should have had her back she’s found a way to do what she’s meant to do yet not be accountable to anyone but herself. She’s strong, intelligent, wise enough to know when she need help and ask for it, has some incredibly interesting and diverse friends and acquaintances and is scarily determined. I loved the mystery, the characters and the world building. I will absolutely be getting the previous books in this series to read more of Emily’s adventures!!.

This is the first Emily Tizzano thriller I have read but not the first offering from this author. K.J. Kalis has a talent for tight, concise dialog and for placing her protagonists in a series of difficult situations. In this book, Emily finds herself enmeshed in the investigation of a Ponzi scheme using crypto currency. Duped investors are losing everything and some are dying because of it. The perpetrators of this scheme are as ruthless as any bad guys I've ever seen in any genre. Emily calls upon people who most would likely consider as bad guys to help her. The whole mess makes for compelling reading. The only complaint I have is that I felt the ending, especially regarding the perpetrator, could have been fleshed out a bit more. I kept waiting for the final comeuppance but when it came, I thought it could have been a bit more drawn out - more payback perhaps. This detail shouldn't deter anyone from reading this book. It's a keeper.
The Investor: by KJ Kalis - A Detective Emily Tizzano Vigilante Justice Thriller
First off, this is book 5 in this series but it could be read as a stand-alone book. For me this book was not as strong as the first 4 in this series. Yes, the story is well written and intriguing, but I found my attention wavering due to the same repeated internal dialogue of woe me and yes, her treatment from the Police Department and the media was horrible. I like to read books in a series where the main characters change from the experiences and the characters evolve otherwise all the books remain the same and the books can be read out of order because nothing changes. I found myself getting annoyed with Emily, even the people she calls friends are subjected to her abrasive attitude and after 5 books, I think I need to move on from this series. 3 stars.
The Investor by KJ Kalis A Detective Emily Tizzano Vigilante Justice Thriller Book Five Emily Tizzano, a former Chicago detective, found out about an investment scam where many lost every penny they had. Trusted the wrong person. She had emails from people asking her to help, but she wasn’t sure about helping anymore, not after her last case. When it became a bit more personal…she had no choice. She had to help. Emily heads to New York City to learn more about the company that had ruined many lives. So many of the prominent people from the company had gone into hiding. Including the woman who owned the company. Along with them…billions of dollars that didn’t belong to them. I enjoyed this page-turning story that lets the reader see the different POVs of those involved. https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
Book 6 of the Vigilante Justice series by KJ Kalis is another fast read with enough drama ad speculation to keep the reader's interest. Emily has a rare opportunity to visit with her sister, a Robin Hood style emergency doctor who patches up anyone in need regardless of what side the the law they are on. Her sister travels the globe and at the moment she is in New York.
Emily is working for justice when a man who invested in crypto currency is stripped of his entire investment, which is all the money he has. In his frustration and shame he takes his life leaving his young wife behind with no assets to care for their two boys. Emily knows the family and is set on finding a way to help this family get back on their feet.
Another KJ Kalis thriller that leaves you rivited to your chair to the very end.
This is a very entertaining book that will keep you reading until you have read it all. Emily Tizzano a former detective visits a friend and finds out about a friend of his who committed suicide, because he lost all his money when he invested in crypto currency. The whole thing was a very well-constructed ponzi scheme. The woman who ran the scheme had disappeared and no one could find her. Emily saw the family of the guy and knew she had to do something.
This book will keep your attention until the end there is all kinds of action. There are murders, kidnapping and a lot of detective work by Emily as she hunts the woman who started it all. This is a standalone book that will make you want to read the previous books if you have not read them.

Scammers of the world beware Emily will track you down and deliver justice. Emily an ex-cop can’t help herself when she sees others suffering. The long slow hand of the law may eventually reach you or Emily can simply deliver justice right away. Emily is a strong female lead that has many compelling attributes that has you cheering her on her journey to deliver justice. Financial scammers reek havoc on families with tragic often fatal consequences that destroy families. Emily must step up outside the boundaries of the law and hunt down the scammer before there are other victims.
This book was much better than the last. Emily's friend Carl (go to butcher down the street) has a death in the family. A wife and two young sons are left destitute and along. It feeds Emily's sense of right/wrong and she starts investigating a Ponzi bitcoin scheme. How can she succeed in finding the vanished Vasso and her billions?
Enter her tech guy Mike and ex-father in law, Italian mafia guy Antonio Tizzano. She tracks down the increasingly deadly Vasso and her money!
The Investor is another great addition to the Emily Tizzano Series. The story is well-written and fast-paced and keeps you rooting for the bad guys to be placed behind bars. Although The Investor is a work of fiction parts of this story could probably be happening right now in spite of all banking legislation and central bank controls over the world.

An excellent book in an excellent series, Emily Tizzano's no nonsense approach to getting justice for people unable to get it for themselves is awesome. The story is full of complex twists and turns and the action never lets up throughout, carrying you along with its pace so you do not want to put the book down. The characters are very well written and described. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
Exciting. On the he edge. Love the fact that ex cop, vigilante, with a network of good and not so good but trusted individuals get more done than the justice system. Hopefully there will be more Emily Tizzano coming. Definitely worth the read.
I have to admit to being let to the party here, considering this is the first Emily book I have read. I do know this though, it definitely won’t be the last. I was engrossed from beginning to end. Just goes to show you what friends are for. Highly recommended.
When you see KJ Kalis's name on a book you know you are in for a great read. This is another really well crafted and thought out book that keeps you intrigued and involved from start to finish.

Great story! Very instructive on how things really work. It turns out that loyalty holds the world together. The financial information is so instructive. Greed causes so many problems. Thanks to KJ Kalis for an outstanding story!
Wow! Just how real was this book???!! Bernie Madoff just had another name. Really action-packed and hopefully, with the solving of this situation, Emily will get her job back as a police officer. She really deserves to. Well done!
A lot more interaction with her father in law shows the side of her family from a good light, something that was just speculation before. A great addition to the books so far.
Emily goes to NYC in search of a woman who masterminded a pyramid scheme, bilking people out of their life savings. I definitely recommend K.J.Jamie books!
Emily dishes out justice for others...not in the traditional form but still helping resolve problems of many. Its an easy read and keeps your attention!
Is family or having loads of money more important? Good question when you are duped into something and lose everything. After the death of a cousin of someone she knows piques her interest, Emily decides to head to New York to investigate and finds herself right in the middle of something ripped right out of today's headlines involving cryptocurrency. As you follow along, you are ready to tear the woman who cares only about herself to pieces. Read from cover to cover it becomes another must read from KJ Kalis.
