New Generation:Poems from China Today

Rate this book
Poetry. This collection includes the work of twenty-four Chinese avant-garde poets, representing the new generation of artists who have emerged over the last twenty years, during a period of tumultuous change in China. A dozen American poets(including Lewis Warsh, Lyn Hejininan and Anne Waldman) worked closely with Wang Ping, a Chinese poet living in this country and the editor of the anthology, to produce translations which have preserved the excitement and clarity of these poems. Here is a chorus of rising voices in contemporary Chinese poetry. Some of them are contemptuous; some brave; some humorous; some desperate ...Together they represent the new poetic sensibiities that have completely shed the shadow of the Misty Poetry. These poems are passionate, defiant, and evocative -- a great pleasure to read -- Ha Jin.

Born in Shanghai and grew up in the East China Sea. Love the body of water, its sound and smell, love the touch of the muddy beach and golden sand.

This poetry collection was a great exposure to modern Chinese poetry. I fell in love with a lot of the poets, like Mo Mo , Tang Yaping, Wang Jiaxin and Yi Sha. I do wish, though, that the poetry collection included some more recent work. The collection was published in 1999, and many of the poets had collections printed in the late eighties and early nineties.
