Williamson "Wick" Murray was an American historian and author. He authored numerous works on history and strategic studies, and served as an editor on other projects extensively. He was professor emeritus of history at Ohio State University from 2012 until his death.
The authors, two military historians, gave an excellent explanation of parts of the Iraq War, but it went into too great of detail for my tastes and I believe most people would benefit from a summary instead.
Also, it was written in 2003 before one knew that the phases of the protracted war would continue until troops were finally withdrawn in 2011. But, this provides insight into how little we know about how long a war will last, how difficult it is to end and the long-lasting consequences.
This is an imposing book by a renowned historian. It focuses on the military in the invasion of Iraq. If one wants to understand the military aspects of the war, this book is an excellent place to start.
