Reader, PMS survivor, Texan, satirist, author of the Jessica Christ series and the Kilhaven Police series, podcaster, blogger and oversharer.
Send me book recommendations for humor, psychology/sociology (criminal is the most fun), indie publishing, artificial intelligence (not too technical; I'm an English major FFS), or marketing. Bonus points if you recommend something that's all of the above.
I read fantasy, sci-fi, and lit fic unless someone pushes it on me, at which point I rebel and make sure to never read that title. I don't understand it either.

I say it in all of my reviews for H Claire Taylor. She is quite simply, one of the most talented authors alive. You just don't get this calibre of humour, innuendo and phfnar laughs, together with a solid storyline anywhere else. And if you do, let me know where.
H Claire Taylor has proven her quality with the epic Jessica H Christ series, and the Alice Luck books have been a long time coming for those of us that really enjoy / need the escapism that only quality humorous writing can deliver.
The first three books in this series were simply excellent, with some genuine laugh out loud in public moments. And it continues with the brilliant, or possibly, really very stupid, Captain Luck, who is on a roll in life.
Although she is on another critical mission, she is still horny and her sex life can take place, sometimes without her even knowing; "Alice stared at her palm like it had betrayed her. “Mating ritual? I just wanted to pat him on the back.” You need to read this book to understand that snippet. Do it, you won't regret it.
They are a strange team aboard the ship, and even Vel is starting to warm to Alice, albeit from the relatively tough starting point of zero Kelvin. The relationships constantly evolve and take swift turns in directions you don't expect, making it all the more enjoyable.
There are plenty of unusually named races in this mission, I'll leave you to work those out. Some of the incidents when taken out of context - "the mushroom bukkake he inhaled right before he bit a chunk out of Hypha’s ding- a- ling," - might sound a little unusual. But once you dive in and inhabit this bizarre (off)world, it makes perfect sense and paints an epic picture that you should definitely get into.
H Claire Taylor has such vision that her humour even offers possible / practical solutions to modern themes where others struggle, i.e. "Diversity was what kept the governance in harmony, and if one species appeared to have too much sway, well, that was what execution squads were for." Brilliant and sharp.
I hope this possibly disjointed, but enthusiastic review will encourage you to sample the delights produced by the talented mind of H Claire Taylor. I'm so glad I took a punt on her work, based on a review several years ago, when searching for a book to fill the gap waiting for my then favourite authors to deliver. It has paid dividends.
The series is really fun. The author seems really bright, thoughtful, and well read, but something cracked in her BIG TIME to come up with all the insanity she comes up with! Imagine a highly educated, well spoken 10 year old boy, truly gifted with the art of crafting a story that completely holds your attention. (And it's not just the book and series, she's super consistent!) Anyway.... I think this book was great. Highly recommend the series. In the beginning of this book, I almost thought she might be done with the series and character, but they she just seems to have dug in and gone for it! Again! Read it! Laugh!
A rocketing triumph from Taylor’s fantastically bent mind. The fourth installment to the Alice Luck Space Adventures is indulgently satisfying and will have you laughing your sack off, or whatever you’ve got. This book has it all: murderous psychedelic fungi, hugely cocksure Bacc’joons in all their subintellectual glory, YOLO-inspired Kaldalks, ex-boyfriends, more ex-boyfriends, and the worst thing: struggling artists. You’re going to love it, Big Daddy. Oh, that’s right, spoiler alert: Allura is back!
