Three simple rules. Two hot professors. One helluva good time.
When I meet Chance and Ethan, I know immediately that these dominant professors can give me what I need, what I crave. Order. Discipline. Lessons in pleasure.
Their rules are simple and there’s talk of consent and age requirements, but my brain is fizzing with anticipatory pleasure and I can’t focus.
And unfortunately, it turns out that twenty years old is not old enough for them.
That’s it? I’m kicked out of their bedroom, out of their lives? I’m crushed. I’ll do anything to get their attention back on me where it belongs.
I might even break a few rules.
Playing by Their Rules is a standalone, suspenseful MFM erotic romance. If you’ve ever fantasized about a sexy professor taking you over his knee, buy your copy and fall in love with two of them today!

This is a good MFM romance with interesting characters and a few surprise twists that was fun to read. Chance and Ethan are two professors who like to share and have a set routine they have been following for years. Massie is a young woman who comes out of nowhere knocking their well organized lives out of balance. The story is good, the writing decent if a little flat at times and, as I said, there were a couple of unexpected twists to keep things interesting. I didn’t feel as much emotion and chemistry that I expected based on the characters and plot, which was a little disappointing. Still, their story is complete and the end was satisfying. I liked the little glimpse we got of the future at the end. It gave a bit of extra closure as well. I can’t say more without spoiling the biggest twist in the story.
Surprisingly my favorite character in the book was actually Bradley, Massie’s aromantic bff. He was funny, charming, entertaining and I loved him so much! I hope Calista targets him as a main character one day as I’m really wanting some woman to come along and turn him upside down. I feel deep down inside he’s hiding a painful wound that has caused him to shut down the part of him capable of romantic love.
This book is honestly a three and a half star book but I rounded up for one really big, important reason. All of Calista’s other books are cliffhangers series, usually with four or more parts to them and she doesn’t even have box sets of them to make them more affordable nor are they available on Unlimited. As far as I know this is her first true standalone book and I want to support that and encourage her to write more. I detest serial stories and cliffhangers and I’m so happy and excited she finally wrote this standalone story. As I suspect there will be future stories about Roman and Hunter I hope rather than another serial story she will give us more standalone books. Oh, and Calista, I’m serious about Bradley. Please give him his own HEA. He definitely deserves one.
Playing by Their Rules’ by Calista Jayne is an age gap, Daddies, ménage romance. Maisie falls for Ethan and Chance with their first encounter and they’re equally as attracted. However, she’s too young to become their girl. Waiting to be their naughty girl is difficult, but she perseveres and when the time arrives she plots and plans.
Calista uses her narrative and dialogue to develop their relationship, illustrate their growing BDSM dynamic, and demonstrate the care and love they have for each other. Maisie loves her Daddies punishments and the sex is panty melting. Their relationship is endangered by Maisie’s foster sister who has an unhealthy obsession with her. I loved how their story ends!.

This is a spoiler-free review! The version I am reading is an ARC -- any changes made for the final publication are not reflected in this review. Thank you to the author for providing me with an advanced copy for review! Playing by Their Rules will be available on September 12, 2023. You can also read my review of Falling for Them (Cinderella's Daddies, #1) on my blog, here: https://thepaperworlds.blogspot.com/2....
Calista Jayne does not disappoint in this fun new standalone -- when Maisie gets a second chance to win Chance and Ethan over for a very special relationship, she goes in with a clear mindset and a plan that would put war battles to shame. Maisie is such a great character when it comes to understanding her own feelings as well as when it comes to experiencing so many new things as once. I really enjoyed her characterization, and it reminded me a lot of Ella from Jayne's Cinderella's Daddies series.
I loved that we had perspectives from Maisie, Chance, and Ethan -- it made the story become cohesive and the reader does not feel as though they are missing out on certain characters and their thoughts. Jayne really allows readers to understand exactly what is going through everyone's minds as the relationship begins to develop, which makes it all the more entertaining to read.
Once I started reading, I could barely put it down and nearly flew threw the book in one sitting. The pacing of the plot works in the reader's favor, as it makes you feel as if you are going through these new and exciting decisions and moments with Maisie at the same rate as her thought process.
Bradley and Mina made interesting supporting characters, and I loved the relationship that Maisie had with Bradley -- it is a rare find in romance books to have a female lead with a male best friend that does not try to get into a relationship with her, and I found it very refreshing to see such a great dynamic between the two of them. Mina is an entire beast on her own, and low-key felt like a bit of a stage five clinger when it came to doing anything with Maisie -- she really was basically trying to become another version of Maisie and her character definitely added some tension to Maisie's life.
Ethan and Chance were overall great characters that really had maturity behind them when it came to doing anything with Maisie, which once again was refreshing to see in a more taboo romance novel. I love a good age gap romance, and their age difference with Maisie was just the right amount where it was an age difference and not a power difference in the sense that everyone was in control of what was going on in their relationship.
I absolutely loved the thriller element to this book -- much like Falling for Them, Jayne is able to expertly incorporate thrilling, interesting plot twists that compliment the story's relationship without overshadowing the main theme. This was such a fun read, and easily one of my new favorite erotic thrillers. I really enjoyed the pacing of the story and plot development, and the relationship between Ethan, Chance, and Maisie was well-established and overall a great pairing.
This was a super fun read and I will definitely be reading more by the author. If you are a fan of Praise by Sara Cate or Credence by Penelope Douglas, this book will certainly become one of your new favorites. I would definitely recommend Forever Only Once by Carrie Ann Ryan once you read this book, especially if you are looking for a romance book with a touch of thriller to it.

This book was packed full of different tropes from Virgin to Daddy Dom/sub and all the goodness that comes in between.
It starts off with Chance and Ethan, two hot hunky Professors meeting Maisie and taking them home for some adult fun and games, only to find out mid-spanking session that she’s only 20. Unfortunately, they have rules that they won’t have a play partner under the age of 25 so much to everyone's disappointment they send her on her way. Five years later their paths cross again and they have five years' worth of missed kinkiness to make up for and they certainly do.
I really liked the main characters in the story. Maisie was fun and playful and definitely a brat and whilst she questioned herself sometimes as to her feelings and actions, she made the perfect partner for Ethan and Chance falling into the role of their baby girl easily and taking punishments like a champ. Ethan and Chance were great men - strict but with a softer caring side. They fell first and fell hard and they were utterly filthy as Maisie's Daddy’s.
It’s an MFM story, so there is no sword crossing, but there are plenty of scenes that involve all three of them. Communication wasn’t always brilliant between the three of them, which did affect their behaviours/reactions at times, but it didn’t detract me from the story at all. In fact, it just emphasised how besotted the characters were with each other that sometimes their passions took over.
There was a sideline storyline running alongside the relationship involving Maisie’s past and her foster sister, which added a bit of darkness and danger to the story which I enjoyed. Making the story more than just spice and giving a great opportunity to include some brilliant sideline characters.
THREE AND A HALF STARS ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️✨ But I rounded up for the benefit of the author. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and it wasn’t too bad. I did like that the characters didn’t immediately fall into bed with each other (although it seemed like it was going to happen) and gave the female character time to grow and really decide if she wanted to pursue what her teachers were offering her. Of course, she hated the fact that they put the breaks on the budding relationship, but it made for some fun tormenting of the teachers (especially when she played the “innocent” naughty schoolgirl!). Some of the BDSM references seemed too exaggerated and unrealistic but at least they did follow safe, sane and consensual rules (and always honored her safe word). However, after she used her safe word, they never really took the time to fully talk about why she used her safe word. 🤷🏻♀️ I guess they forgot about the extreme importance of verbal communication. Overall, the story was entertaining and enjoyable. It had some laugh out loud moments, a bit of drama and some interesting role playing. The sexy scenes were a bit on the lukewarm side for me but others might enjoy them.

Calista Jayne is one of my absolute favorite authors, and books like Playing by Their Rules is one of the reasons why. Calista writes such wonderful characters who come to life on the page. There is healthy obsession and there are unhealthy, needy obsession and Maisie encounters both in Playing by Their Rules. Ethan and Chase has three rules they abide by, and the first 2 are the most important to them. One is absolute consent, and the second is they will not be with anyone under the age of twenty five. A misunderstanding has them sending Maisie away, but they just can't get her off their minds. Five years later, Maisie is of age and sets out to get the professors she has been saving herself for. But someone is obsessed with Maisie in an unhealthy way and this obsession can put an end to what Maisie, Ethan and Chase are trying to build. You definitely want to grab your copy of Playing by Their Rules by Calista Jayne, but be sure to check out the trigger warnings before you dive in. calista-jayne
I got bored with this book pretty quickly. Once Maisie was rejected by Chance and Ethan for being too young the first time there were together is where things went downhill for me. There is way too much inner angsty monologues from all parties.
We fast forward a few years and she’s the appropriate for them but now she’s in one of their classes. I can see why they wanted her to grow up unfortunately, she’s playing childish games to get their attention now and they are acting like love sick teenage boys that don’t know how to ask a female out.
I suppose the angst sessions were supposed to ramp up the tension, I just bored and fast forwarded to the non-horizontal times.
There was a little extra angst with the room-mate/foster sister that was bit predictable in how they kept sneaking in little bits of things she would do.
The story itself was ok and the added little bit of intrigue with her foster sister gave you something else to read besides all of the horizontal times.
I received an ARC and I am leaving an honest review.
I really enjoyed this story, and I recommend it to those who enjoy a story with heat. Chance and Ethan are professors at the local University and spot Maisie at her work and want to share her. Maisie is a virgin and when these two hot professors ask her to spend the night with them, she jumps at the chance. When they discover that she is only 20 years old, they send her home because they have a rule that they will only entertain women over 25. Five years later, Maisie shows up in their classes at the University, she sets out to win them over after seeking revenge first. The story was full of sexual tension and learning for Maisie, chance, and Ethan teach her how to be a sexual being. But there is danger ahead for Maisie and her two men rushed to rescue her. There is a happy ending for everyone.

Twenty year old Maise was asked out by college professors Chance and Ethan with the possibility of an evening that involved spanking. But when they found out that she was only 20 instead of the at least 25 that they had assumed they returned her home as their code was to only be involved with 25 year + as the frontal lobes have usually finished developing by that point.
Five years on, Maise signs up for Chance and Ethan's classes and proceeds to torment them with her behaviour. Can they start a relationship now? Things become even more complicated with the weird behaviour of Maise's roommate.

★ “I didn’t know I was into silver foxes, but here we are.” ★
—>>> It takes every bit of their will to let Maisie go when Chance and Ethan discover that she does not meet the age requirement of their strict rules, but they were not willing to compromise on it due to their past mistakes. It is five long years before she unexpectedly shows up in their psychology classes again, and this time, she knows what she wants, to make these two hot professors hot under the collar and to pay for denying her the pleasure all those years ago. Enjoyed this spicy Daddy Dom-student/professor menage romance!
"Playing by Their Rules" by Calista Jayne is a scorching hot read that dives straight into the steamy world of forbidden desires. The story centers on a love triangle where boundaries are pushed, and passions run wild. The characters are drawn to each other in a magnetic and tantalizing way, leading to explicit and intensely erotic scenes that leave nothing to the imagination. Jayne's writing captures every sultry detail, making the reader feel every heated moment. The plot is thrilling, with an undercurrent of raw, carnal desire that keeps you hooked. This book is a pure, unapologetic smut-fest, perfect for those who crave intense and uninhibited romance.
I really enjoyed this story by Calista Jayne. I enjoyed the world she created. I am looking forward to reading more stories by this author. Chance and Ethan have rules when they share a woman for a night. They are attracted to Maisie but their rules stop them. Five years later, Maisie is wanting to get back at them. They haven't forgotten about each other. Will this be their chance to finally explore their attraction?

Maisie is a young woman who ends up knocking the socks off of 2 college professors when she was 20. Once they found out her age, they had to let her go. 5 years later, she shows up in both of their classes and then the fun starts! Games are played, the professors are going out of their minds as they have not forgotten the young woman who changed their lives!
Drama (more emotional), banter, some hot, steamy scenes and chemistry will make it hard to put this book down.

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.
In this book we meet Maisie, Ethan, & Chance. Maisie is looking for the perfect person or people that can help guide and control her. Ethan & Chance want their own little brat that they can mold. The problem they seem to have is that their jobs have made it very difficult to find that perfect girl for them. Can they all find their HEA or will outside forces make sure that never happens?
An amazing hit by this author. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
Ethan and Chance see Maisie and they want her & she wants them. But after one night of steaminess, they discover she is only 20. The man have a hard and fast rule, never a partner under 25. Even though they all want more, they need to wait. What happens in 5 years and after make for a solid, well paced, interesting read.

This was a steamy romance that unfolded differently than I expected. Maisie, Ethan and Chance meet and have smoking hot chemistry, making me think HEA....however, these two professors had a hard and fast rule about their woman being 25 and Maisie is 20. Well, moving forward in time, these three find their chemistry is just as hot and a real HEA is waiting for them. I enjoyed this fast paced story with lots of drama, emotions and steam :D
Ethan and Chance know when they see Maisie that they want her to be theirs. They were heading towards a hot night together before finding out she is only 20 and they have a hard rule about no one under 25. They put the brakes on which she was not happy about. Five years later she is ready to make them regret their decision. Will they come back together and move forward with a life together or is it 5 years too late?
Ethan and Chance see Maisie and they fall for her, Maisie is attracted to them as well. They share a steamy night together but when they found out she is only 20 it is over. Five years later she begins attending their university classes and plans a little revenge. Fast-paced read with loads of drama and emotion. Great chemistry and steamy. I liked it.

This book is a tease at times and then WHOOSH comes in the hot steamy romance. Maisie and her professors know how to deliver the heat along with the HEA at the end.

I love Calista's books and this one is no exception. I love the 5 year waiting period, and I love the 3 of them together. I also like the teasing Maisie does to get their attention! I think the character build especially for Maisie was great and the book had an entertaining plot and the whole book was a great read.
This was written better than I had expected. I was prepared for a total guilty pleasure read but was pleasantly surprised at the plot. It still had plenty of really steamy scenes and it was totally fun.

This turned out to be a good story. I'm not too much on the "daddy" thing but I do enjoy BDSM so I figured I'd give it a shot. I wasn't disappointed. It's an interesting read. The characters are great and the storyline is fantastic. I look forward to reading more from the author. Recommend reading this.
