"I'm squished I'm squashed I'm buried in this heap You're hoggin' up my space in bed. I'll never get to sleep " This irresistible read-aloud is sure to be a hit with little bed hogs and their sleep-deprived parents. Kelly DiPucchio grew up on a small farm, where her family raised horses, chickens, ducks, rabbits, and goats-but no hogs She likes to ham it up in southeastern Michigan, where she lives with her husband and three children. Bed Hogs is Kelly's first picture book. Howard Fine is the illustrator of many fine pig picture books, including Piggie Pie , A Piggie Christmas, and Piggie's Twelve Days of Christmas. He is also the illustrator of Zoom Broom and Broom Mates. Howard Fine lives with his wife and three children in Westchester County, New York.
Kelly is the award-winning author of several children’s books, thousands of To-Do lists, and a few recipe cards. Two of her books, Grace For President and The Sandwich Swap, were New York Times bestsellers.
Like most kids who grew up in the 1970’s, Kelly had a pet goat and bought all her clothes from the Sears catalog. Like most teenagers who grew up in the 1980’s, Kelly had really big glasses and feathered hair.
Today, Kelly lives with her husband and three children in southeastern Michigan, where she enjoys writing just about everything except her own bio.
This is the story of five pigs In a bed. The story has beautiful rhyme (mostly) and is clever in its use of words and slang - although I had to miss some of it. It's a nice tale except that SPOILER - at the end, the baby pig wants everyone to get back into bed with him so he can sleep. For anyone using this as a bedtime story - beware because this suggests that it's better to sleep together - particularly not helpful for those trying to get kids to sleep in their own beds.
If you ever craved more space in bed, then you can relate to the poor little piggy in Bed Hogs. Of course, when everyone is out and he has the whole bed to himself, he's terribly lonely, but isn't that life - we never really know what we want :) Adorable illustrations coupled with fun rhyming text will make this a bedtime favorite.
In Souey, South Dakota a little runt tries to get comfortable in the family pig pile. But he is squished and, quite frankly, the other pigs have issues. Beauty Queen Rose has stinky feet, Flo drools, Ed giggles in his sleep. One by One, Runt figures out a way to get each pig out of the pile. But then, he's a pile of one, and that won't do either. "I"m lonely in this heap! Without y'all hoggin' up the bed, I'll never get to sleep."
On a farm, in a stuffy pig sty, five pigs are snuggled into bed. Little Runt complains that he is squished and squeezed and can't get to sleep. This story helps the reader count backwards from 5 to 1, and then discover Little Runt has a complaint even when he is the only one in the bed. Cute and funny story with wonderful illustrations.

Little runt thinks he knows what he wants, to have a bed all to himself. He figures out how to get his family out of the pen, but soon realizes he is all alone. This tale of how family sticks together will delight readers.
teaching application-This is a great book to have the kids
Genre: Modern Fantasy Grade: K-1 This book has been one of my favorite books. I relate to this book a lot because I act like Runt when I am sleeping with someone. I also like how this book is very repetitive, and students would be able to repeat some of the phrases in the book.
My daughter loved this book. She likes to pretend to save the little pig when it is getting squashed by pretending to scoop it out of the book! A lovely rhyming book.
Another family favorite! The runt of the litter is overcrowded and over-bothered at night by his pen-mates. He manages to get the bed all to himself, only to find that he's lonely! It reminds me of that song "Three bears in the bed and the little one said - ROLL OVER!" Adorable illustrations. A great "over and over" bedtime book.
This is one of my favorite books to read for Storytime. Little Runt is trying to sleep, but his family of hogs are taking up all the room. This story is a cute take on the Roll Over song. The illustrations are bright and colorful. Children enjoy the rhyming and repetition of "Ah, much better!" Great book for preschoolers and young elementary students.
this is a direct rip off from Ten in the Bed but I still love it! Pig lovers this is a MUST read. It is an older book but with Erin's nightly demands of 5 books I often have to pick from the library shelves. The rhyme is good not too corny. The illustrations are amusing and it has a bit of counting and features numerals so there is a lot worth while in this little pig book.
At bed each night, Little Runt gets squished and squashed by his family of pigs until he finds a way to kick them all out of bed. But not until he is all alone, cold and scared does he realize how much he actually likes those bed hogs! Great rhythmic text coupled with cute illustrations makes this a perfect bedtime story.
Bed Hogs is a cute little story that kids of all ages can enjoy. It has inviting pictures and a fun counting rhyme. Actually the book is counting backwards and could be used to help introduce the concept of subtraction to young children. It also has enough of a plot line to interest an older child. It was a big hit at our house.
"I'm squished. I'm squashed. I'm buried in this heap." This is runt complaining that he doesn't have any room in bed, and he systematically kicks them out of the family bed. When he's left all alone, he's too lonely and alone. Print motivation skills and print awareness for children ages 1-4 are evident in this book.
Runt pig cannot find a perfect place to sleep piled high on the hogs...every time he settles in, something disrupts his peace. Children will love the adorable little pig and his quest for a good night's sleeping spot.
The littlest piggie in the sty is having problems sleeping because all his family makes such a ruckus in the hay. He manages to push all his family out until he is the last one left in the hay. It's then that he realizes he can't sleep without them.
My little muchkin STILL requests this funny book before she hits the sack. Oh, and it's always way better to read with a silly voice for little baby Runt.
Fun for a barnyard theme. Great illustrations with fun rhyming text (although it does lose the rhyme from time to time) and counting backwards from 5 to 1.
