Dark Webs True Crime #2

Murder on the Dark Web: True Tales From the Dark Side of the Internet

Rate this book
MP3 CD Format A look into the dark side of the internet's secret underbelly

The dark web is the internet's evil twin, where anything can be bought and sold. Drugs, weapons, and hackers-for-hire are available at the touch of a button.

Most who visit merely look around, happy to satisfy their curiosity before leaving, never to return. But some are sucked into the criminal underworld and find themselves doing things they would never have contemplated in the real world--ordering a hit on a love rival or bidding on an auction for a sex slave--like the people in this book.

A Minnesota dog trainer is found dead of an apparent suicide after detectives find her details on a dark web murder-for-hire site. But who paid $13,000 in Bitcoin to kill this devout Christian and beloved wife and mother?

A Page-3 glamour model is drugged, kidnapped and listed for sale on a dark web human trafficking site. A secret society called Black Death demands a ransom for her safe return, or else she will be sold to sadistic millionaires to use before feeding to the tigers. These are extraordinary true tales of infidelity, betrayal, and shadowy hitmen and human traffickers who may not be that they seem.

Contains mature themes.

Eileen Ormsby is a lawyer, author and freelance journalist based in Melbourne. Her first book, Silk Road was the world's first in-depth expose of the black markets that operate on the dark web.

Eileen's gonzo-style investigations have led her deep into the secretive corners of the dark web where drugs and weapons dealers, hackers, hitmen and worse ply their trade. Many of these dark web interactions turned into real-world relationships, entanglements, hack attempts on her computer and even death threats from the dark web's most successful hitman network as she researched Darkest Web. She now lives a quiet life off-grid as much as possible.

I love Eileen Ormsby’s novels. I’ve only read two and have already ordered the rest! She does each crime she writes about absolute justice without providing an overwhelming amount of unnecessary information, like so many true crime authors do. I love that her novels include more than one story.

This is the second e-book I have read on Kindle Unlimited and its a good one!
The term 'dark web' needs little introduction in the internet ear of 2021 yet still poses many questions; is it all encrypted? It is as sinister as we imagine, and what will we find there? I've never ventured into the dark web myself, but I'm not new to TOR nor TAILS which are both needed to access this 'unseen' and criminal enclave of the internet. Imagine a heinous insidious version of eBay where you can buy or sell drugs, guns, and gangsters, even murder-for-hire. Often exaggerated with folklore, the prime real example would be the website SILK ROAD, which we heard about on a True Crime podcast.

This second book in Eileen Ormsby' dark web series, Murder on the Dark Web tells two true crime stories, both which intrinsically linked by this very modern phenomena. One from the USA and one from the UK. The three-part format remains with a great introduction describing what the dark web is. This sets the tone for the reader giving insight, should it be needed. Both stories are intriguing, well known, and wonderfully told. The narrative remains objective, and the facts are dished out, with newspaper reports, interviews, phone call transcripts and masses of research in the storytelling.

An absolute joy to read!

Eh... It's okay

When it comes to true crime, you really need a full length book. There's just no way that even the greatest author can do a crime the justice it deserves any other way.

These stories are much better than the books that include several stories as they contain more detail, but they ARE still lacking in important areas such as making the reader feel the emotion of the victim or the victim's family, or to even care about the torment anyone goes through.

That sort of thing, as well as the compelling parts of testimony in a trial are just not captured in a short synopsis of a crime.

Also, this author's editor must be a friend because she's written in both books I've read so far, A special note to her editor praising her editing job, which is sub-par at best. The editor is surely NOT a professional because there are plenty of errors in this book, and if some of the mistakes are due to quotes from other books being written as is, then the editor has not indicated that with a [sic] so those things still go back on her.

I cannot, in good conscience, say that this is good enough to pay money for when there are several mistakes that need correcting. When someone pays for a product, they expect it to be without imperfections or they want a refund, right? If this were a table, and it had a scratch, the purchaser would want a refund. If it were a 2-slice toaster and only one side worked, you'd want to return it.

Since Amazon has made it interactive for readers to report errors, it seems that authors have become more careless and allowed more sub-par and less carefully edited books to be published because they figure they'll fix the errors as readers report them. Then if this is the case, don't charge money for it! Why don't authors read their finished work before they publish it?

Amazon is taking money away from freelance editors by asking readers to report errors, which doesn't force authors to use editors any longer. This is wrong! It causes bad products to be sold as well!

There were once 3rd page girls. This is third page true crime story.
I'm cybersecurity technology consultant, and as such learning and reading about cyber crime. This book, however, is just crime show, where dark web is just a part of scenery. I would have given this 2 stars as it didn't took too much of my time, and actually was on point, but at the end of the book those sneak peaks from next books were in so sensational manner, that they destroyed any belief that this book could be taken seriously.
If you are in for yellow pages, read on, crime stories are good ones, as far as I can tell. If you are looking for a book about cyber security or dark web, keep on looking, this is not it.

Murder on the Dark Web is the second book in the Dark Webs series and is a must-read for lovers of true crime stories.

These true tales from the dark side of the internet include the murder of Amy Allwine and the kidnapping of Chloe Ayling. The author also provides other fascinating information about the dark web. The crimes are well researched and well written, guaranteed to keep you glued to the pages from start to finish.

I am looking forward to reading more true crime stories written by this author.

Two stories for one price

I hadn't heard of either story before reading this book. I found both to be very educational and intriguing to say the least. My eyes were opened to internet services on the dark web I knew nothing about. How Amy was stalked torment then killed was awful. Her husband didn't want to be kicked out of his church he should be worried about being thrown in the pits of hell. Chloe has a whole mess of problems in her life besides her kidnapping. It should have been a wake up call but obviously no. She's on a path of destructive behaviors.

If you love watching crime shows or mysteries, this book is for you. The author does an excellent job of recapping the facts and motives behind these crimes and the book reads like a novel. I was impressed and hooked from page 1, could not put the book down. Fast paced, great descriptions and fact based with references to evidence.

This was an interesting book to read from the point of view of its style and content. It was also a little disturbing to read of the widespread information and use that some people employ, even though you know it exists.
The book itself doesn't delve into how to use the dark web, just shows how it can be used and gives two accounts of this discovery.
Obviously the author has first hand knowledge of this and does a good job at describing the events that appear as a 'novel'.

Interesting

Keeps you reading, however the information provided, not counting one verifiable case in MN, is about as shady as the scammers on the dark web. It shows how ignorant people who look to do harm are as easily scammed as elderly people who believe they've won money based on nefarious claims.

Fascinating book

I don't know very much about the dark web but thanks to Ormsby's intriguing books I am learning a lot. This book shares the behind the scenes details of two very high profile cases involving said dark net. I highly recommend this author if you like true crime that is well written and makes you think.

More frighteningly interesting crime

It was creepy reading about this woman's death and how the darkweb played its part. The author did a good job explaining it and she wrote the story fantastically. Defi one writer to watch.

This was pretty atrocious—some of the laziest writing I've ever seen. More than 70% of the book is the author copying and pasting emails, chat transcripts, and audio transcripts. Don't read this garbage.

I enjoyed this. It's not fluffed out with too much information like a lot of true crime books are, this has facts and is straight to the point! Fab read!
