Running Wild

Rate this book
From the internationally bestselling author of The Simple Wild comes the story of a woman at a crossroads in her life, struggling between the safe route and the one that will only lead to more heartbreak.

Veterinarian Marie Lehr knows unrequited love all too well after pining for her best friend, only to watch him marry another woman. It's a mistake she will never make again, especially not when she can practically hear the clock ticking on her childbearing years.

The trouble is, she can't seem to find anyone who appeals to her even a fraction as much as that burly bush pilot did. Competitive musher Tyler Brady certainly doesn't, especially not after the heated altercation with the handsome but arrogant, spiteful man.

Or so she thinks.

While volunteering at the Iditarod Sled Dog Race, Marie discovers that first impressions may have been false, and her attraction to Tyler is very real. But his heart belongs to someone else, leaving him with nothing to offer but friendship. Marie's been down this road before and knows how that ends. Yet, no matter how hard she works to keep from falling for Tyler, it seems she's doomed to follow her own trail once again.

Contains mature themes.

ohhhhh wow. okay. this might possibly very likely probably be the best book of the series. ugh. i really, really loved the first book, but this one. this one is it.

and it could very well be because this nostalgically reminded me of the obsession i had with balto for like a solid three years of my childhood. lol.

i will admit that i wasnt the biggest fan of marie in the first couple of books, but wow. i was so wrong. shes amazing. and tyler. if i could bottle up his snark and save it for a bad day, i would. and the two of them? perfection. add to that the breathtaking scenes of alaska and the playfulness of dogs - im pretty much obsessed.

gosh, i desperately hope marie and tyler get a second book. i need more of them, more of alaska, more of the dogs. lol.

Q: Is this another book about Calla & Jonah?
A: No, this book features Marie, Jonah's best friend

Q: Will C&J be in this book?
A: Yes, they'll be in this book, but this story is about Marie and will feature new characters and new challenges.

Q: Will this book be about Marie trying to ruin C&J's relationship?
A: Ewwww.... no

Q: Am I going to love this book as much as I loved The Simple Wild?
A: I don't know how to answer that. I guess it depends on your attitude going into it (but I'm SUPER excited to write it anyway)

Q: Can I read this book as a standalone?
A: I guess you could? But I don't think you'll enjoy it as much as you would if you've read The Simple Wild series (which you have 5 months to do before RUNNING WILD releases!)

Few things I’ve been more vocal about than my love of K.A. Tucker’s Wild series. I think The Simple Wild is a perfect book, it hits every single note, and ends on the most beautiful, hopeful note. I’ve reread it time and time again and it always makes me so happy.

I’m very aware Running Wild will be a delicate choice for some people. Marie was the character we pretty much wanted to annihilate in Wild at Heart, when she took advantage of Jonah and Calla’s relationship’s vulnerable moment to maybe push a bit of an agenda. But what this book achieves isn’t a redemption arc - it just makes her human.

Here, we get to learn about Marie’s family, her struggles with her sisters and with her clinic, her bleeding heart for all animals, her generosity and her integrity. We get to learn that she’s a complete person who fell in love with her best friend but never actively made choices to hurt his relationship with the person he loved. She just cried in her sleep and got her heart broken like we all would, and we can’t really fault her for that.

But there’s good news: Marie finds her happy ending in this one! And it comes in the shape of Tyler Brady, an Iditarod rookie from Montana by way of Finland who shares her broken heart.

Tyler has a lot of Jonah in him, but he’s a little less brash and a lot more conflicted about his feelings. I absolutely loved that he was a widower and that he truly loved his wife; at no point was there talk of “oh, but the marriage was in crisis”, or “I never felt about her the way I feel about you.” He really loved his wife and now he really loves Marie and that’s okay!

I loved being back in Alaska, I LOVED the Jonah + Calla crumbs (they were hefty crumbs 🙃), I loved Marie and Calla’s blossoming friendship, and I hope we get books about every single person in Trapper’s Crossing and I never ever have to leave this world!!!

My face while reading this book:

I was really excited to finally read Marie's story but this was such a disappointment.😪

Idk if i missed something but was marie always this old? tbh i wasn't fan of her whole storyline. the marriage talk, the ticking clock on her womb, her family(mainly sister) treating her like being childless and not married is equivalent of a terminal illness was ridiculous.
it all felt forced to me. i mean the book starts where she is still pining after jonah🙄

However the thing i disliked the most was the irrelevant excessive dog sled info!!!
So many descriptions and explanations that i got so bored and needed to skim this parts.

The story moved so slow with so many unnecessary details imo. Beside the dog sled competition there was a lot of veterinarian stuff and family drama.

It didn't even feel like a romance book, it's a
very slow slowburn.

I needed more of marie and tyler's chemistry and relationship development but i feel like the dead wife trope is always tricky and tyler was in love with her almost the entire book. it didn't help that we don't have his own pov 🙄 so the part where he is finally over it? how he got through the trauma of losing her and his unborn child?

"I’m not ready to move on. God, Marie, you are incredible. I love everything about you … and when I’m with you, I fool myself into believing that I’m ready, but I’m not.” He shakes his head with resolution. “I don’t know how to love two women at the same time.”

Literally in the last 80% wtf🙄

marie comparing every little tyler's detail with jonnah was exhausting.

"He’s blunt, like Jonah is blunt. That’s always been an attractive quality to me."

"Tyler’s rage reminds me of Jonah’s, and it’s oddly satisfying."

Jonah does that all the time.
In fact, so many things about Tyler remind me of Jonah.

I wanted to read about her moving on ffs, jonah is happily married with calla, why couldn't she left him alone.🙄🙄 it really took me out of the romance and marie and tyler's slow boring relationship (if you could call it that, i was half way through and they had maybe 8 interactions) didn't help imo.

Loved the jonahcalla crumbs tho.

Such a big potential wasted so badly.

📚'RUNNING WILD' 📚 Is the 3rd full length romance book in K.A. Tuckers's 'Wild' series.
rsz-png-clipart-piercing-heart-arrow-gold

I can't gush about this series enough, If you've not read them, but have thought about reading this series, don't think about it, #1click it seriously you won't regret it. It's unique, it's set in Alaska, and you can't help but be drawn into the storyline and love these characters as they live their day to day lives in an unforgiving wilderness.

3 in a row, 5 star after 5 star! I can not get enough of this series! This threw out all those mushy feels us romance readers chase, a high I only get from my books and this book threw them out in spades.

I'm not going to lie, I was apprehensive going into this as I didn't really connect with Marie in the previous books, so I tiptoed in, apprehension gnawing at my insides, but god only a few chapters in and I grew to love her character, I saw her in a new light, and I couldn't help but connect with her.

Marie is so relatable, as friends and siblings fall in love, get married, get pregnant, Marie's biological clock is ticking away in the background as she slowly creeps towards her forties. Love evading her when it wasn't reciprocated has left her vulnerable and lonely, uncertain if love will come knocking on her door. A veterinarian who takes her job seriously and has no limits when it comes to caring for the four legged animals that come through her clinic.

giphy62149ee8d8d9c0bc.gif

Tyler Brady is the ruggedly handsome stranger in town, these two don't have a smooth first meet, a man holding onto a life he never wanted to say goodbye to has come to Alaska for a fresh start, to heal, to not be reminded of what he's lost.

It feels so good to be back in K.A. Tucker’s ‘Wild’ world and back in Alaska. The third book in this series is about Marie Lehr, a veterinarian and Jonah’s best friend.

Marie is a small town vet in Alaska and she cares deeply about all animals. The way she meets our hero Tyler, well, let's just say they don’t start out on the right foot. Tyler is new to Alaska and is there for a purpose. He’s there for the sled racing. His dogs are impeccable and he doesn’t like Marie thinking otherwise. I loved the banter between these two at the start. I could feel the tension boiling between them.

When I read these books, I truly feel like I’m there in Alaska. Tucker does an incredible job describing the scenery and making you feel like you’re right there with the characters. I also found the Iditarod sled dog racing captivating. I’ve never read a book with something like that in it.

I was a bit surprised with how much I loved Marie. I had some ideas about her from the other books, but I feel like I understand her better now and she’s relatable to a lot of us in a lot of ways. And Tyler… gah! He was wonderful. I also loved getting to see so many of the characters from previous books I love so much!

This book started out a bit like enemies to lovers, then turned into more of a friends to lovers. It was a heartwarming slow burn romance that can be read as a stand-alone, but I can’t recommend the other books in this series enough! They’re all wonderful!

An emotional tale of unrequited love, heartbreak, second chances and hope

Running Wild is the third full length book in the wild series set in gorgeous Alaska by K.A. Tucker and it is Marie, the vet's story.

I was a bit wary and sceptical going into this, as I'd seen a few friends who didn't like it much, and also Marie was NOT my favourite in the first few books, after pining for her best friend Jonah, who was in a relationship with the main character of those books, Calla. BUT I adored this! Yes there was an excessive amount about dogs, and racing in the Iditarod Sled Dog Race, but I didn't mind it, and after never having heard of it, was impressed by the endurance needed to participate in that crazy long race in the bitter cold winter of Alaska!

Marie was not who I expected her to be. She was kind, strong and so relatable. She really showed her vulnerability, her loneliness, her big heart and her love of animals (hence the nickname the crusader!). I enjoyed reading about her vet practice, and smiled at the realistic portrayal of her family, particularly her relationship with her sisters! I just felt drawn to Marie, and felt heartbroken for her, as she tried to move on from being in love with her unavailable best friend. A few scenes made me tear up, as she struggled after being friend zoned again!

I loved Tyler! I loved his devotion to his animals, his banter and sarcastic humour, and his relationship with his brother-in-law, Reed. I really felt for him and his issues from his past upset me a lot. Tyler and Marie were a good fit, and had chemistry, and I so hoped for a HEA for them both together!

As always, the rugged setting of Alaska was like its own character! I cannot get enough of it! The scenery is so vividly described that I can picture it easily, and almost felt like I was there. I really should get myself over there one day!

It was enjoyable to see the old crew of Calla, Jonah, Roy, Agnes, Mabel, Muriel and Toby! I just hope K.A. Tucker never stops writing about this world! In fact I would love another book on Tyler and Marie, as I felt the ending was a bit rushed.

I recommend this series if you want to root for and fall in love with it's characters , love the wilderness of Alaska, and want a story filled with hope.

I got emotional whenever she was thinking to herself about why she is in her current situation and her being a veterinarian made it even better.
The dogs were absolutely adorable in this book and the connection Marie had to the dogs that connected her with the love interest were amazing.
Tyler was a very realistic love interest but I did cry at his backstory and his struggles were realistic.
When they were revealed so many things made sense to me as well as how Reid is.

Yet again, I absolutely fell in love with the scenery. Alaska is a dream vacation spot of mine and these books are not helping me with fighting the urge to just book a one way ticket to Alaska and live in a little house near a forest.
The description is yet again beautiful and the trail sled race was an amazing detail.

Jonah and Calla did make a reappearance and yet again I loved them. Marie’s struggles with Jonah were mentioned and it made me feel for her situation and how she is struggling at her age.
The family aspect has been one of my favorite parts of the entire wild series and yet again, I was completely content with the family scenes.
Marie’s father and mother were hilarious and the sibling relationship was very realistic and made me dream of my next family dinner.
Marie’s past was also mentioned multiple times and I loved how not only her love interests but also her education were brought up multiple times.
Yet again the characters had detailed past and the character developments were amazing.

I kind of saw a hint to maybe another romance book? I’m hoping Reid will get his own story since he is a very interesting Character that I feel like has a lot of potential for another novel with great characters.

I recommend this book to everybody that loved the simple wild and now I need to reread the entire series.

I'm so ready for Marie's story, counting the days........

And hopefully getting some much needed glimpses of Jonah and Calla 😍

READING UPDATE

I have so much love for this series!!!

Also, I'm glad Marie got her HEA!!!

I'm not surprise that Marie was a very relatable heroine. Especially with her kind of backstory. Love is a fickle thing. And how much control do we really have over it???
In the end, Marie and Tyler fit, they had chemistry and he was a bit of a Yeti too!! They both deserved a happily ever after, and I'm glad they found it in each other.

The only thing I really could complain about is that the ending felt a bit rushed. The last 10% didn't feel satisfying enough. Overall I didn't get enough couple time between Marie and Tyler, and felt there was still so much to talk about.

I was hoping for it to become a duet.

On the other hand I loved the many Jonah and Calla glimpses, even some Roy, Muriel, Agnes and Mabel scenes. I'm secretly hoping for more. Maybe there will be a Mabel book in the future. Also would love to see if there is something happening between Agnes and Roy :D.

Something else I enjoyed a lot was the focus on mushing, and the many things I learned about this sport - the good and the bad. Of course I knew about the big race (Iditarod) and its history, but never had any real idea what it must mean to race for days in bitter cold weather to reach the goal after almost 1000 miles. The endurance and commitment it requires from human and dogs, and how much volunteering goes into events like these.

I love it when books teach me something new, and I always thought that KA Tucker's books felt fresh and new to me, maybe because she does Alaskan romances so well. They definitely stand out from the crowd.

- Marie the Crusader might as well be dating the sled dogs cause i could feel the love and passion more between them than her & Tyler.

- halfassed romance

- awkward friendships (though what do i know about BFF-ing the guy ~you had once fallen *unrequited* in love with~ AND his wife?)

- i wouldnt wanna be related to any of the Lehr sisters, but i would so love to be adopted as Sids ‘daddys girl’. the dad is MVP here.

- info dumpy plot (though i didnt know the word ‘musher’ or anything about dog race until this book, so silver lining i guess).

- i enjoyed the simplicity, day to day minutiae (Kristen Ashley is my fave author for a reason), but i expected better from the romance.

- whoever designed the cover, please get with the program and change the plane icon to one of a sled or dogs.

”I want it all. Consuming passion and camaraderie, laughter and strength, hope and comfort. It exists. I’ve seen it every time I look at Jonah and Calla.”

This entire series, set in the rural Alaskan wilderness, is atmospheric and all encompassing and just heart wrenchingly beautiful, and I’m crying knowing this is the last book I’ll get to be in this world of Jonah and Calla and Marie. As all JonahCalla fans know, Marie seemed like simply *the worst* in the first two books plus the novella, and I was weary about reading her story. But she was only the worst because you meet her from Calla’s perspective. Marie is just a woman who is trying to find herself, and she never wanted to do anything wrong. Her story is so worth it and makes your heart break for her and what she’s gone through, and makes you totally love her and want to be her friend!

Marie, my sad smart strong girlie, you will have it all and then some! Her story is a lesson in always having hope, even when that hope proves dangerous. It’s better to continue hoping and fighting for what your heart truly wants than to settle and live a life that’s wrong for you. It takes guts to do that, but Marie does it. And she’s rewarded with Tyler Brady, the sexy Iditarod winner from Finland. 🩵❄️🏔️🐾 🩺🛷🤍

Marie is just someone looking for what we all want: real, passionate, consuming love. She’s had to watch everyone in her life find it while standing on the sidelines, wondering if there is anyone out there like that for her. At 38, she’s starting to think the life she always wanted isn’t in the cards for her, and she’s so afraid to even so much as hope that she’ll be able to have it all someday. The real love, a husband she doesn’t have to settle for, the babies. Enter Tyler Brady, whose actually going through similar feelings in a totally different way. She agrees to be the veterinarian for his team of dogs that he races (the book does a great job of discussing the pros and cons of dog sled racing. Personally I think it’s terrible but reading this actually shifted my perspective). So she’s his vet, and sparks fly. And Tyler proves perfect for her, making all of her heartache and hope and strength worth it in the end.

This entire series is perfection. If you haven’t read The Simple Wild, what are you doing!?! It’s one of my fave books of all time. Jonah and Callas story is one my favorites of all time, and that’s where you initially meet Marie. Keep going through the series and you end up here, with her story and lots of cameos from Jonah and Calla. Marie and Tyler’s love story is so beautiful and tear jerking and deep and powerful. I cried happy tears for Marie while reading this. No one deserves it more than she does.

I need more in this series, but will settle on doing a reread soon.

PS I mentioned the JonahCalla cameos. They are so good in this! Think a continuation from the end of the novella. Cannot lie, I cried. I love them so much. And Jonah still reigns supreme as one of my top 5 book boyfriends of all time. A truly coveted position. Jonah is up there with the likes of Cassian and Rhys Larsen, so seriously go read his books!!!! And again KA Tucker PLEASE I AM BEGGING please write more in this world!

This book made me want to completely change my life plans and move to Alaska and become a vet.

I loved how real and raw their relationship was. It's rare to see realistically portrayed couples in books. The only thing I would change is to add at least one chapter to show how their relationship looks like when they are together, because I feel that the epilogue wasn’t enough for me.

I love Marie and Tyler's story, but sadly nothing beats Jonah and Calla's books. It doesn’t change the fact that I wholeheartedly recommend this series. It's a pity that the author didn't decide to continue with more new couples. It would be amazing.

“I will be. It just might take me some time, but I want you here with me while I get to that place. I need you with me. I want to give you everything you want. I’m in love with you.” He leans in to press his forehead against mine, his mouth inches away. “Please don’t give up on me yet.”

now, don't get me wrong. there's a plethora of things to love about running wild. that's definitely reflected in the way i flew through this book. unfortunately, i couldn't help but want a lot more for marie … and even, somewhat begrudgingly, tyler.

plot.
running wild tells the story of the woman who has been burned by love, and of the man whose heart belongs with another.

marie lehr is ready to move on, to what she's not sure. then she meets tyler brady while volunteering at the iditarod sled dog race and she's certain she's found, something. but while the attraction is mutual his heart still beats for another, leaving him with nothing to offer but friendship.

tropes.
✨ slow-burn
✨ aesthetic af backdrop
✨ mature (late thirties) couple
✨ grief
✨ lingering unrequited love
✨ pull-out game was not strong
✨ wishy-washy hero
✨ doormat adjacent heroine
✨ dead wife syndrome

marie (h).
🩺 marie is the kind of heroine i like to classify as … doormat adjacent.
🩺 when it comes to animals there is no one more passionate than marie.
🩺 when it comes to people … *static noises*
🩺 i wanted her to tell tyler to fuck off for a bit demand more for herself, especially when it came to her sister and tyler.
🩺 the minute she did start demanding better from … certain people in her life *cough* tyler *cough* the book ended.
🩺 overall, i can't help but feel a bit sad for marie.
🩺 she was second best to calla, and now … 🤷‍♀️
🩺 it seems like she's gonna spend the rest of her life being second best to mila.
🩺 sucks to suck i guess 🙃

jonah tyler (H).
🛷 oh tyler … the potential, the potential.
🛷 tyler was a cheap knockoff of our resident yeti.
🛷 okay, i kid, i kid.
🛷 but marie did make the comparison plenty of times which was awkwardly hilarious 😬
🛷 tyler was a grieving father and widow which was extremely heartbreaking.
🛷 that said, he was also emotionally unavailable as fuck.
🛷 and he KNEW that about himself, mr. "i can't love two women at the same time."
🛷 yet he still strung marie along the entire book.
🛷 and oh man, would you look at that, all my previous sympathy for tyler has miraculously dried up🖕
🛷 respectfully good sir, go fuck yourself.

what i liked.
❄️ the strongest part of running wild was obviously its setting.
❄️ once again k.a. is out here making me nostalgic and homesick for a state i've never been to, or lived in.
❄️ alaska comes alive through tucker's writing.
❄️ i especially liked the addition of the iditarod dog sled race, written about in all its complexity.
❄️ the jonahcalla cameos were much appreciated.
❄️ all the doggo content had me squeeing.
❄️ nymeria was such a good girl.
❄️ low-key kinda want shy boi reed's book.
❄️ the relationship between marie and her father, loved it.
❄️ marie's mother, ever the peacekeeper.

what nearly gave me a headache.
⛈ tyler in all his wishy-washy glory.
⛈ more specifically, the moment where he spilled his swimmers into marie because he HEAVILY implied he didn't mind if she got pregnant.
⛈ only to walk that shit back the next chapter.
⛈ i honestly wish marie had gotten pregnant, because FUCK him.
⛈ tyler kissed marie for the first time because he thought she was his wife … holy awkward batman.
⛈ marie kept putting up with tyler's emotionally unavailable bullshit.
⛈ liz.
⛈ the lack of a real resolution (no the epilogue does not count).
⛈ tyler waiting until ninety-fucking something-percent to get his shit together.
⛈ never really believed that marie was fully over jonah.
⛈ tyler was very much NOT done grieving for his wife.
⛈ the epilogue told me a lot things i would have liked to have seen.
⛈ TYLER'S POV WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY HELPFUL.

overall.
🆗 running wild was a solid continuation of the wild series.
🆗 marie had her moments and i didn't hate her as a narrator.
❌ tyler … 😤
🆗 tyler … 😌
✅ the setting was magical as ever ✨
✅ loved all the dog content.
❌ ultimately though, i felt like both tyler and marie deserved better.

This book was everything , she might wasn’t a favorite character but her story touch me in so many ways ! Her journey is emotional , sweet and heartwarming! I fall hard for Tyler!

Love this world so happy to be back and see my favorite characters plus this book make me understand Marie better and feel sorry for her . There were parts I felt connected to her and what she is going through!

It makes me cry for my own reasons and it was everything I expected and so much more! Love the writing I devour it in one sitting!

I believe we all know how much I disliked Marie during Calla and Jonah's journey. However, I'm taking back everything I said. I never said anything negative about Marie. Erase it from your mind. I just want to give Marie a big hug right now.

Although the dead spouse/ex trope isn't for everyone and might be irritating, I loved it. And I'm sure this won't be a hit with many people for that reason, or just because they dislike Marie. But I strongly advise you to give it a shot and see for yourself.

The focus of Marie's book is on learning about her family and clinic. All we know about Marie from Calla & Jonah's books is that she's a veterinarian who has always been in love with Jonah. However, her book allows us to see a lot more of who she truly is.

Marie is going through a lot right now. She is 37 years old, and the clock is running out of time. She desires to meet the love of her life and to have a child of her own. However, it appears that she will never achieve what she truly desires and dreams of if she continues on her current path. Everyone around her has pretty much everything she wants, and while she's happy for them, it's still difficult for her to see. She is torn between her family (which I despise) and her clinic. Money is a significant issue in their family, and it feels like she gets the brunt of the burden when it shouldn't be.

We learn a lot more about her passion for animals in this book. Marie would go to any length to help these animals. That's how she meets Tyler Brady. They don't get off to the best of starts, though. Especially since she drove right through his fence and accused him of abusing his dog. 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐭: He didn’t. Tyler had just taken the dog from her previous owner, who had been abusing her. Now, this baby is having the time of her life with Tyler, and she is overjoyed.

Tyler is a newbie to the state of Alaska. He's in Alaska to participate in sled races. Tyler's next-door neighbor, Harry, isn't fond of him. Particularly considering he's also competing in the sled race, and Harry is a cocky son of a bitch who thinks he'll win easily. Because, after all, a rookie can't win, right? Wrong.

Things between Tyler and Marie are not easy. However, their banter has been going on since the beginning. Even if they aren't ready to do something about it, there is always tension between them. It's not easy to jump right into a relationship after losing someone you care about, and this novel reflects that. Even if you believe you're ready to get out and about again, you might not be. You might not be able to totally commit to a relationship right now, no matter how much you like them. However, determining when you are ready and when you are not will be difficult. As a result, the other person gets hurt.

Tyler's wife, Mila, will always stick with him, and he will never forget her. Especially since Mila's half-brother Reed asked to join him and help him with the dogs when he relocated to Alaska. So, while Tyler may find it difficult to jump into another relationship, Reed may find it difficult to see him move on. But, with time, he realizes that reentering the dating world will be fine. Tyler had always known, even if he wasn't ready, that Marie was the one for him. And now that he's ready, he's not about to lose her. He's eager to make amends for everything he's done to Marie. In the end, love always wins.

I'll be honest and say I need more from the Wild series. It doesn't matter if it's more Marie, Roy, Toby, Mabel, Reed, or anyone else. My heart will break into millions of small pieces the day K.A. stops writing about the Wild.

The CallaJonah breadcrumbs though😭😭😭 I always need more from them. Always.

But, if you are reading this, does anyone else want to move to Alaska? Because the desire to simply get up and move is growing stronger😮‍💨

Thank you to Valentine PR for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review!!

I was really nervous going into Marie's book because I didn’t have the best vibes towards her given her actions throughout the first three Simple Wild books. (I’m a Calla Fletcher-Riggs stan first and foremost). HOWEVER, it was nice getting to see things from Marie’s perspective. I understand her much better as a character now and really enjoyed this book. Most importantly I loved seeing homegirl FINALLY get a manz of her OWN. Praise the lord.

This is a romance but so much of the book focused on Marie’s personal growth. She spent a lot of time examining where she was in life given her age ( I was SHOCKED to learn that she’s a few years older than Jonah) and how she feels left behind as the people in her world move forward. I think a lot of readers — myself included — can relate to some of the internal struggles she faces throughout the book. I’m only 23 and I already feel a little left behind at times.

Marie’s messy yet loving family was a nice addition to the story as well. I love me some complex family dynamics!! Her dad definitely steals the show and made me smile so much because he reminded me of my own father.

The love interest Tyler gave off the perfect Nature Zaddy vibes that I’ve come to love in small-town romances (a lot of this is due to Jonah Riggs himself). My heart ached for Tyler in this book. His past was really sad and I was happy to see him find love again with Marie. It's a slow-ish burn between the two but felt very fitting for their story. They were really well suited for one another and had me swooning at times. I mean a Vet and a Dogsledder? Match made in heaven.

Speaking of dogs I learned so much about the world of dog sledding which I found really fun and interesting. I like how K.A. Tucker didn’t glamorize the sport and showed both sides to the industry. This book made me want a dog so bad!!!

I was most excited to see my loves Jonah and Calla again and lost it every time they were on the page. I do wish we got to see more of Calla and Marie’s relationship though. I was waiting for them to have THE conversation surrounding Marie’s past comments and actions towards Calla which never happened. But it was nice to see that they have somewhat of a friendship now. It was also nice to see Jonah as a best friend in this book and be there for Marie as she was going through it with life and Tyler and her family.

This is my formal request for another Jonah x Calla novella because there were a lot of vital off-page moments between them happening in this book that I would KILL to see Calla’s perspective on. Especially with what took place at the end for my favorite couple!!!!! (I will literally read about them watching paint dry at this point)

Also, there seems to be a few loose ends still in Trappers Crossing. I’d love to see Reed (who was a nice new character in this book!) find love in Alaska and for my fav bartender/ plane fixer Toby to get a HEA as well. Also very curious as to how the whole Roy x Agnes x Mabel relationship will play out. We were given a few hints that really piqued my interest.

Overall this was a nice addition to the Simple Wild line-up. All of these books are so comforting to me and I love how K.A. Tucker transports us to Alaska every single time. I feel right at home with these characters and could spend hours reading about each and every one of them.

"Get on the f*cking plane already."

Okay, I admit I was hesitant and maybe a bit unjustly prejudice against Marie...but just a bit.

The book starts off with Marie going through her relationship with Jonah. It felt very one sided. This girl definitely has her head in the clouds. However, it does give you a greater understanding of where she was coming from and how much control she exerted over herself.

If I hadn't read the prior books, I would enjoy Marie and for the most part, I did. I loved her and Tyler because let's be fair, Jonah has a bit of competition.

Tyler's gone through something horrible...I just can't imagine and I'm not sure that only two years is enough time to heal from that. Kudos to him for trying although it sure did create a whole lotta angst and I LOVED that.

K.A. Tucker really knows how to draw you in. I didn't want to put this book down even though I learned a ton about sled dogs...and the Iditarod that I probably won't ever use. Still, I enjoyed getting to know the race and the dogs and how they were handled.

It was amazing catching up with everyone especially Jonah and Calla (and their big news). And could there be something between Roy and a certain someone? Hmmmm. And don't even get me started on Reed.

I thought Marie's relationship with her family was endearing. Her Dad was a hoot, her older sister was not. Nonetheless, I thought how they all still get together for weekly family dinners was quite telling.

Overall, a great story. I enjoyed Marie and Tyler and wouldn't have minded another book or two.

That’s it,I’m fully convinced I need to read K.A Tuckers Backlist because I’m in LOVEEEE!!!
I fully started this and was like there’s no way she’ll make me like Marie who I throughly disliked in the other books , yet here I am , not only did I end up admiring Marie and but I loved her. Tucker, much like in the simple wild , delivered a romantic story with emotional elements that had my eyes tearing up. The chemistry in this between Marie and Tyler had me fawning, I loved them much!!
Pleaseeeee read the entire wild series if you haven’t! Soooo worth it!

This is probably my favorite book of the entire series. I liked the romance between Jonah and Calla, but Marie had a story I just really connected with, and her connection with Alaska as a vet (I love vets in romances!), along with Tyler’s connection with Alaska through dog sledding and the Iditarod, felt like it had something more and brought something more to the book. There was also that achy hurt of her and Jonah to get over, and Tyler’s loss of his wife that he had to move past, that made it that much more angsty for me, which I really liked. This is such a great Alaskan romance series, my favorite series by KA Tucker, and I really loved seeing Marie get her happy ending! 5/5 stars.

Estare atenta.

2.75 Estrellas!

This was a decent read.

I hope you've all read the first three books in this amazing series!
You don't have to - this is a complete standalone... BUT ... our heroine Marie was in love with the hero of the first books, so it wouldn't hurt for you to read these amazing books first! And we also meet all the people again and see what's happening in their lives!
😍

Okay... Running Wild.

Marie is 38 years old. She took over her dad's vet practice in Wasilla, Alaska. It's basically her whole life. She dreams of having a family, but after Jonah ... she's afraid that's just not in the cards for her anymore.

Then we have Tyler. He's new in town and he's already a thorn in the eye of the local dog-sled-racing family.
Because Tyler came to win - the legendary Iditarod.

description

Marie and Tyler's first meeting was NOT a love at first sight thing. The opposite really. 🤣
There's definitely attraction of course ....
But anyway - she's still kind of in love with her best friend - who is on his honeymoon in Hawaii at this moment. And Tyler is also kind of not available...

LET THE FUN TIMES BEGIN ...

WHAT WILL HAPPEN WITH MARIE + TYLER?
WILL WE GET A HEA?
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT ☺

JUST BEAUTIFUL!

I couldn't wait to get started with this.
Some readers might be a bit hesitant to read Marie's story - because she kinda wanted to steal our darling pilot Jonah from our Calla. But she didn't. She couldn't!
And now she deserves her own happy end.
And it was beautiful.
I just love this whole Alaska feel of the book(s).
The snow. The animals. The cozy little cabins and sleeping bags. The cold. The sexy beardy men. Kathleen writes this all so beautifully, you really feel as if you're right there crunching through the snow with your big boots and hearing the dog's excited barks. Ugh. I just love the writing and the way it makes us feel so close to everything.
And the story of course.
Poor Marie. She's been in love with Jonah for so long.
And now here's this arrogant new guy with his amazing dogs...
I just loved those two together!
They're so extremely attracted to each other, and Marie would love to finally find the right guy and have a family. But Tyler is nowhere near to being ready for that. But we won't give up - we'll get there in the end ... it might just take them a tiny little while.
And the reader loves every single world on that journey!
And every single doggie!!! 🐕

And as amazing as this book and this series is... once we're done reading ... we still want more. So much more. I wish this series would never end! I could definitely see at least one more story with a slightly younger generation in our future! 😉

RUNNiNG WiLD was such a sweet and sparky and emotional and doggie and snowy and just beautiful Alaska Love Story! I loved every single word! I never want this series to end!
Run to your nearest amazon for your own Tyler - this one is mine! And all his dogs too!

Two more things. The cover! The covers of the whole series! I mean. Hello?! Hang Le - such beautiful work! I want to live in those covers - and in the stories too obviously!
And then ... please Netflix. Come and make a show out of this. PLEASE! We haven't had a good Alaska thingy since Men in Trees and these books are so much better!

I've sat on this review for a week -- even doing a second read of a big portion of Running Wild. And oh, how I wanted to love this book – but it just didn’t make my day sunny and warm! Marie frustrated the heck out of me. She needs to grow up, get a life of her own and act her age. Giving up on Jonah might be a good place to start – he’s found his happily-ever-after with Calla. And a happily-ever-after with Tyler may be questionable in the long run.

In the latest release in this series, most of the previously introduced characters once again join us, along with a few new faces, keeping the fun alive. Of course, I gobbled up any little bits that included Calla and Jonah – and was not disappointed. I want more of them, please!

The addition of Tyler’s point of view would have been helpful in adding some depth to his character and been much appreciated. I wasn't persuaded that he was close to being over the loss of his wife and child. The romance was very slow burn late in the book and really didn’t offer much to build a solid foundation upon -- in my opinion. It certainly would have helped in the overall scheme to have Tyler’s explanation on what attracted him to Marie – besides the “dog business.”

I’m an animal lover and enjoyed and found the dogsled preparation and competition entertaining and interesting. But even this event seemed to swallow up more time than was given to the budding romance between our main characters.

I struggled to find any closeness with Marie – and maybe it’s because I started off not caring for her from the first book in the series. I liked the relationship she shared with her dad – but the rest of the family annoyed me, especially the sisters. I always hate when happiness is built around a woman’s marital status and “ticking clock” issues. Way too much time and energy were spent on those issues here.

If any book ever screamed the need for an Epilogue, this is the prime example. The abrupt halt and questionable future left me shaking my head and crossing my fingers that the author doesn’t plan to leave readers hanging without more from Alaska sooner than later. Up to now, the Wild Series has been extraordinary – and way too good to end on a sour note.

Hi. Remember me? Mixed feelings for Marie? Well this book is now tied for my favourite book of the series alongside Forever Wild
The queen (K.A. Tucker) did it again, and made me enjoy a trope I don't care for (unrequited love).

The execution is perfection.
The brutal honesty and reality of this book is incredible.
I love how relatable and raw these books are, reflecting real-life struggles and overcoming them with maturity and sacrifices.

I do have to share 2 triggers that are not mentioned before you start the book:🛑
- animal abuse (NOT by the MCs)
- child loss.

If I am being blunt, Marie reminded me of my own sister (don't tell her that) which made me care for her even more.
This older sister who takes care of the entire family and sacrifices and is content with the little she has after giving so much.
We're lucky to have them.

And Tyler, sweet mother of everything good. Steady, stealthy, deep, bleeding heart making my own heart bleed.

Marie deserves the world, and although she wasn't our favourite side character in Jonah and Calla's story, I love how we see their relationship and the cameos in this book.

And on a final note, the research Kathleen puts in her books and how she delivers information clearly and concisely is commendable.

--
Pre-read:
Am I ready to love Marie as an FMC after not liking her in the previous books as a side character?
Unrequited love is not my go-to trope, but let's see.

*Reread* If you haven't read this series you are missing out!

This entire series has had my heart since the first chapter of Simple Wild. The thought of getting to revisit Alaska via this series and some of its most beloved characters had me giddy. Getting to do so by way of Marie? Not so much. I don't know if she was necessarily super unlikable in the previous books as much as Calla was just so likable!! Either way, I was excited for a chance to go back to Trapper's Crossing.

I feel like we really got to know Marie in this story and understand her a bit more. How she got to this point in her life and a little about those around her(family, coworkers, patients.) I was a bit shocked that as the book starts she is still talking about Jonah and trying to get over him, but I guess that's more realistic than not. Just because her feelings didn't quickly go away and she held on to love for her best friend who is now married, doesn't mean she doesn't deserve her own happy ending. It was nice to see the relationship between Marie and Calla flourish. & there was quite a bit of back and forth, up and down, but I ended up really liking Tyler Brady.

Side note: I feel like I learned way more about the Iditarod and mushing than I ever planned to!

I just love the way K. A. Tucker writes and am so glad she decided to go for another book in this series. Can't wait to read more of her work!
4 stars.

Woops – another majorly overdue “review”, hope I haven’t forgotten heaps 🙈

The dogs are totes MVPs 🤩🐶🐺 & that race sounds crazy! Yet another awesome string to the Alaskan countryside bow which sounds so amazing even tho my cold-fearing @$$ could NEVER live there! 🥶 ❄️ 😵
Oh more review needed…Ok 😉

I liked that we follow “new” MCs with bff Marie the vet & her love interest. Their story was angsty + slow burn and more than a little frustrating at times with their communication which seemed like it would be awesome initially as dude lays his cards on the table but then they still manage to cross wires & I was not here for the unprotected sex scenes plus the ensuing flip-flopping 🤦
Both come with baggage so while I *can* understand why they interact the way they do at times…it doesn’t mean I like reading it 🤭

The side characters were mostly awesome, I could not with one of her sisters…but Cory was a fun meddler and of course Roy, Agnes, Mabel et al from the earlier books are still such winners.
Am I alone in still hoping we’ll get at least one more book so that Toby can get a HEA...pretty please, I want it so bad! 🤞

4.25*

Fav of the series, and one I can potentially see myself picking back up/purchasing as a comfort read because man is the setting just 💖

This never felt like a romance.

I'm not a fan of the widower plot line, as it always seems to overshadow the central characters' love story. And that's exactly what happened here. This was more a story about family drama and a man who can't let go of his dead wife than it was about two people falling in love. The author didn't show them falling in love- it was flirtation and pulling back. That's it. Then suddenly, in the last few pages, we get a profession of love. But it feels like we missed something- like when and how did this happen?

This one is just not for me- didn't satisfy on the romance side at all.

I didn't get any sleep. But I did get this book read.

There's something about K.A. Tucker's writing that gets me by the feelings and I can't put it down until the last page is read.

Another Alaskan wilderness story but this time focusing on the Iditarod. Didn't know I wanted to learn about that but turns out I did. And Marie the vet we met previously, who I actually didn't like before but I loved her story here. And lots and lots of dogs!!! Loved that!
