I've highlighted a lot of this book because I feel like it fills an important niche.
There are psychology books out there that talk about psychological theories and principles, and then there are marketing books that talk about marketing tidbits, but not many books I've found that are essentially applied psychology as it relates to marketing, where there are principles and generalizations based on bottom-up "real world" experience and observation. This is such a book.
Excellent read on the science of why we buy. Despite this being the 2nd edition, I hadn't heard of Phil Barden until being introduced to him via Phill Agnew's excellent podcast, Nudge. Solid read and reserach from a student and experienced practitoner in the field of consumer behavior.
I am a person who loves observing everything around me, and after reading, it is more interesting when you see the Ads on Social media, billboards, etc. You'll judge them and may think oh the promotion is valid/invalid, which enhances your ability of critical thinking.
