Coach David Boyd has left an undeniable and lasting impact on Boys Basketball in the State of Georgia. During his 30-year career as head coach, Coach Boyd won over 600 games, 14 regional championships and was 10-0 in Final Four State Finals games. His teams competed in 10 State Finals and won 6 State Championships. The state titles were the first for each Campbell 1982, Tucker in 1996, Berkmar in 2000 & 2001, and Milton 2010 & 2012. More importantly than his team’s winning records and National rankings, Coach Boyd has helped more than 70 players obtain college scholarships at prestigious schools. His players have been named McDonald’s All American, Mr. Georgia Basketball, and been inducted into numerous Hall of Fames. This memoir tells the stories of the highs and lows of coaching high school basketball at the highest level. His incredible recall of the moment-by-moment winning plays and heartbreaking losses will take the reader right back to the court as if the game was live. This book tells the story of overcoming incredible adversity, the power of friendship, and the feeling that comes with accomplishing something that was once thought to be impossible.
As a former player, I am little biased. A perfectly written, behind the scenes look at Georgia Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame basketball coach, David Boyd. There are many takeaways and little golden nuggets as Coach Boyd shares his secrets of success as well as some moments of adversity, tragedy, and failure. There are numerous stories and tributes of his former players and students that are both heartwarming and funny including a chapter about his most famous student, actress Julia Roberts. His six state championships at four different high schools, and accumulating over 600 career victories is just a few of his many accomplishments detailed throughout the book. I highly recommend!
