I Parry Everything: What Do You Mean I’m the Strongest? I’m Not Even an Adventurer Yet! Volume 3

Rate this book
Her Holy Highness Astirra, the high priestess of Mithra, has invited Lynne to her son’s coming-of-age ball. The troublesome news doesn’t end there, however; the (soon-to-be) man of the hour, Holy Prince Tirrence, claims to be betrothed to the adolescent princess! King Clays suspects a plot, but his hands are tied. Lynne and Rolo must travel to the Holy Theocracy to confront the ghosts of their pasts, with Noor and Ines in tow.

Will our four heroes survive their journey in the face of so much mistrust and conspiracy? How good will the catering really be? And those “ghosts” are only figurative...right? How is Noor supposed to fight one without any magic?!

This is volume 3, so to cut to the chase — this volume is a good followup to the previous one.

The addition of the new character, Rolo, adds a slower paced, heartening character arc that complements the fast paced absurdity of Noor's ever-escalating battles. While the previous volume barely began Rolo’s journey from belittled outcast to confident member of a team, volume 3 has
Since he still has much room to grow, he is interesting to follow, much like Noor was in the first volume — only if you discount the astronomical power spike that Noor had, of course.

At the same, the main character continues his misadventures and misunderstandings. The escalation of power and scale that first hooked me is still here — If you’ve read up to this point in the story, you know roughly what to expect.

However, gimmicks must change in some way to stay fresh, and Noor’s naivete is beginning to annoy me. I’d only felt it twice in this volume, but the whole song and dance where Noor doubts his abilities and hesitates feels like padding.
We get it. He’s oblivious. I don’t want to read extra paragraphs pretending that the main character might not head towards the obviously interesting direction where the plot will be.

Furthermore, the book ended abruptly just as it was getting interesting, which is a little vexing at the time of writing. There’s another month of waiting before volume 4 releases for me, but for you, reading this in the future, this would probably be a non-issue.

Overall, I recommend Volume 3 of “I Parry Everything: What Do You Mean I'm the Strongest? I'm Not Even an Adventurer Yet!” if you enjoyed the previous volumes.

Thanks for reading. If this review was helpful to you, please leave a ‘Like’. It would give me a small boost of happiness.

My favorite in the series so far!

We finally got a moment where someone explains at least one thing to Noor.

This novel also focused a lot on other side characters such as Lynne and Rolo. Both of them grow stronger in this novel and I love their dynamic together.

I'm so sad about where their book ended because I need to know what happens next! The series really started to pick up for me once Ines, Rolo, Lynne, and Noor got to Mithra. The ball, the betrothal, betrayals, it's all intriguing and there hasn't been a dull moment since they arrived in Mithra. I look forward to Volume 4!

torn on this series

I’ve read the first 3 books, and the story and characters are interesting. I’ve enjoyed the plot twists and am curious to see where the author takes the plot.

That said, as with the first two books, we change points of view every chapter. This is helpful as fare as understanding everyone’s perception of events as well as with world building. However, it also means a lot of mental narration involved, and explanations of everyone’s history… not to mention an amazing amount of injuries that should have incapacitated the recipients of them. The scale of misunderstandings in the series is vast but is also what makes the series work.

It has a lot of possibilities, but it feels like most of the story is in the characters’ heads. I’ll probably continue with it, because I want to know how the characters will get through what’s going on now, so I guess that’s a good thing.

Excellent

Adventure stories are great, add in the political intrigue and your world becomes inhabited by cultures! I keep postponing finishing the book for the next to arrive, but I couldn't help my self, I just had to know!

Okay, that's weird. The major foreshadowing at the end of the last novel, (Black-sword related), was ignored throughout this one. Instead we are taken in a completely different direction.

It's starting to edge into silliness. One more and I'll know for sure. At least they're short books.

Thoroughly enjoyable if I may be so bold to say, write, review and comment. Ended on a cliff hanger of course, I can't wait.
