Drinking alcohol is prevalent. I don’t mean to sound cliché, but all your friends are doing it, truly. However, a quiet sober movement has slowly been taking shape around the world. Unlike those of us that all get together and drink (many times heavily) and find it acceptable to shame those that don’t partake, the sober ones are just quiet about it. They don’t sit around and shame the drinkers, they just don’t…drink alcohol. There isn’t any drunk shaming (out loud anyway) and they don’t tend to put any pressure on those that do drink. They even seem happy! Maybe there’s something to this whole “not drinking” thing. This book gives quite a few reasons why quitting alcohol altogether is beneficial. As someone who does drink far more than I should, I can promise you the health effects of over imbibing are real. I have told myself repeatedly that I might have more success with losing weight if I didn’t drink so much, but then I have a glass of wine and my resolve goes out the window. Green explains how alcohol can contribute to memory loss, stomach problems, and many other health problems that should make everyone pause before having that evening cocktail. She goes further to describe how it can weaken relationships and make job performance sketchy. Green gives plenty of reasons to give up alcohol, and I think she might just have something there.
This book really spoke to me and made me laugh out loud several times. I could relate to a lot of the author's anecdotes and I liked how it laid things out in short snippets.
I am a huge fan of self help but I will admit that the first sentence sold me on this book. So many authors wrote and claim to be quite qualified and have been exposed to the topic, this author tells the truth. Alcoholism is a serious health problem that can lead to serious health issues, especially when you consider the number of people and children affected by it every day. Alcohol consumption dramatically drains, destroys, and causes serious illness while destroying relationships between people who love the user. Take time to get off your alcohol and enjoy the life in front of you.
Wow! What an eye opening, inspiring book! As a casual drinker and a supporter of an alcoholic brother I thought reading this would be just like all the other alcohol books. Nooooooo! The author, Sienna Green, gives the reader 101 reasons to stop drinking. I only needed 10. She provides the health related reasons, which is scary enough but goes on. You can read this in whatever order you wish. She breaks them up in 5 sections of 19 reasons using her own life and experiences to base them off of. I'm inspired and in awe of the way she opens up and shares with us her personal struggle. Even though I have watched my brother before he quit drinking, I never realized the damage internally and externally this poison has on a body. I think the quote I shared in a photo above of Mathew Perry sums it up considering he is no longer with us. After reading this sobering book, I wish anyone who drinks no matter the amount should spend some time reading this. Even the loved ones of alcohol drinkers, no matter the amount, should read it also. I think after doing so, the author's thoughts and experiences, will have such an effect upon them there'll be less drinking and more understanding and helping which is needed in today's world. Thank you Sienna Green for sharing your pain and having the desire to help others!
A humorous book for women (lol), it's actually for anyone who has stumbled upon this informative and engaging piece of literature that strongly affirms our existing knowledge or what we are fairly certain is true. As I approach my seventh year of sobriety in just 10 days, I am filled with the joyful feeling of JOMO (Joy of Missing Out)! This is the first book I have read from beginning to end that I can distinctly recall.
Valuable tidbits of information, I believe AT TIMES the message is semi/completely lost due to the condescending way presented at the end & explanations for the presented # being too short (not clearly clarified).
But a solid read in female quit lit by a non-professional / typical person with life experience point of view.
Enjoyable, and maybe the snark works on most but not all, especially those in neuro-divergent communities.
This book is well written and easy to understand. It has slot of information on alcohol that I found fascinating. It gives over 100 reasons to stop drinking to be a better person. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to stop drinking or know someone who should stop drinking.
Sienna writes this with humour and the way my inside voice sounds. I've been dealing with alcohol for a while and the way writes this just makes you think twice and realise what you're doing! The f**k it butting is great - but life and being the real you is sooo much better!
I loved it! It was the most straight to the point book about sobriety I’ve read. The points are wound with stories to make this a quick read that packs a powerful punch. I highly recommend this to anyone just starting out in sobriety.
I never would of known the affects of alcohol on the woman body if it wasn't for this book. Now will I stop casual drinking...probably not but atleast now I have the information to better protect or prepare myself.
This is a quick read but its filled with humor and science... a great combo. I'm going to get her other book now. This book WILL turn you off of alcohol if you choose to take it seriously.
Alcoholism is all around me in my life. I learned a lot by reading this book. Some things I already knew, but most of it I haven't even considered before. There really are so many reasons to put th Alcohol down!! I highly recommend this book!
I loved this book so much I can’t wait to read it again. I am actually going to purchase a few more copies for so of my new friends from rehab. This book was a very good read and definitely worth reading. It was an eye opener for me!
Great book detailing all the negative effects that alcohol has on us and our bodies. Very interesting read, highly recommend for those who are embarking on their Alcohol Free journey
Enjoying reading this! I always start my year reading about alcohol and its risk (my way of doing Dry January) and the book didn’t disappoint. Can only recommend it
i skimmed at least half of this one for a few reasons. the medical/health effects got to be a bit dry, and it sometimes felt like the author was reaching for reasons by splitting one thing into multiple numbers. my favorite part was actually the celebrity quotes at the end!
