The chief value of this book is the sharp photography and the identification of Chinese herbals in Mandarin, Cantonese and English. It is therefore an easy book to use for your initial shopping trips to the Chinese herbalist. I wish the book offered a few more recipes for each item and more information on each item. (Can you chew and swallow Solomon's seal, or must you throw it away after making pork soup? and so on.) My local herbalist can answer some of these questions, but one doesn't want to arrive at the shop with too many....
