Mills & Boon Blush series brings you moving, true-to-life romances3 Weddings & a Secret

Welcome to Sweetbranch, Alabama. Folks are friendly, children are safe and down-home hospitality abounds. Once in a while, though, things are not quite what they seem

There was no peace on earth when Addy got mad.

Danny Mayfield loved his wife, but Addy had a penchant for stray children that strained his budget and his patience to the limit. When she told him that yet another homeless child was moving in for a total of seven Danny told her he was moving out.

Gabrielle was a fetching child, though. You could even say angelic. And good things happened when she was around.

But Addy was still mad, so when the town siren made it clear that she had a real good disposition, why on earth was Danny thinking about his wife and the kids?

This super romance from the 90's has been on my kindle a while and there've been several starts/stops. This is largely becuase this comes with a cast of hundreds. All right not quite hundreds but a LOT and we're given backgrounds and side stories so it's hard to focus on the main characters. That's where the skim read came in.
The h, she was blinkered, selfish, prideful. So yeh, unlikeable. Even when we get the backstory on her and why she may be behaving in such a manner it wasn't enough to excuse her absolute inconsideration of her husbands wishes. The poor H, he had all my sympathy from the get go and he made most of the moves to a resolution, where as she displayed no character growth at all. It seemed to me that at the end some of her behaviour was put down to pregnancy hormones. I call cop out. There's also a 'paranormal' element to this tale, as if it didn't have a lot going on as it is.

Chaotic. The wife in this situation is dealing with guilt from her sister's death during her childhood. As a result she keeps trying to redeem herself by taking in children that need a home. At the beginning of the book she has just taken in the 7th child and her husband has had it. He argues with her and she tells him to leave.Hot tempered Addy is bullheaded and stubborn and refuses to entertain any opinion but her own. For that reason I could never like this character. I think the husband had a lot to put up with. His home was in constant turmoil. Children bickering and very little time for the couple to themselves. Her need to make up for her sister's death makes her oblivious to her husband's needs.
