The Gift of the Magi, The Last Leaf, and After Twenty Years are just three of the six stories presented in this colorful compilation of O. Henry's most beloved tales.
I have read all of O. Henry's short stories, but it's been awhile since I did that. I wanted to share one of his stories with a group of 9-11-year-olds, so I got this book to re-read some of them. The thing I like about this book is that on each page, there are definitions and explanations of some of the terms used, and those explanations appear on the same page as the vocabulary. Obviously, some of the language is going to be from another time, but there is also the fact that O. Henry could get creative with his turns-of-phrase. It's one of the things I love about his stories, but it's not something everyone takes the same delight in.
