A snake????

Well I had not come across a Naga/snake shifter and I loved!!! This story was cute mixed in with forbidden love, shifter, and a little grumpy sunshine. Good twist with Nigel as the villain and that took a good twist!

Terrific monster romance!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🖤💙💜❤️💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: 🙂🥰😎😄😍
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The Hero: Zayn - he is a naga shifter, which means his true form is a Naga, where his upper body is human looking and his lower body is a huge serpent, and he can shift to a human. However, his grandfather was cursed when he was a young man, and the curse is on his entire family line. The curse showed up in his grandfather in his early thirties and at that time, he lost control of his shifts and shifted into a huge snake instead of his naga form and had no control over the snake. His grandfather killed someone and was put to death. When it happened to his father around the same age, his father left his family to protect them.

The heroine: Sybil - She is a powerful witch who has a business where she maintains magical wards around certain homes and businesses. She took over the business from her great-grandmother who died recently. She also inherited a cabin in the woods which she has to clean out since her great-gran was a hoarder of magical items.

The Story: Zayn is in his early thirties and his curse is in full effect. He knew it was coming, so had been saving for years to be able to buy a house far away from everyone where he can shift into the uncontrollable serpent in peace without fear of hurting anyone. However, the curse came sooner than he hoped it would and he didn’t have enough saved yet, so he has been stuck moving from town to town and shifting in his apartment, where his serpent destroys pretty much everything he owns and makes so much noise, the neighbors complain. After moving in next to Sybil, who works from home, she is always there and hears him banging on the walls all the time.

I liked the fact that Sybil had been hating on Zayn for quite some time for being so noisy and she is about at her wits end when she discovers his secret and offers to help him. It doesn’t hurt that she finds him attractive. She is able to help him enough that he feels safe enough to go with her to clean out her gran’s house with her. The storyline about his curse was terrific and I really liked both characters.

This audiobook was done in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Troy Duran and Michelle Sparks. I like both of their voices quite well and they both are very good at doing different voices for different characters. They are expressive and natural sounding, and I liked the narration quite a bit.

4.3 stars.
This was very sweet, and I really enjoyed the smut.
I really enjoyed seeing their relationship deepen as the book progressed.
Some of my favorite parts were when we got the serpent’s POV. He’s so possessive and adorable, it’s so cute.
Then the little things that Zayn did for Sybil and her 2 rat familiars? 🥹 So fucking sweet.

I’m really glad I came back to this series. I’m thinking I need to go read Eamon and Tansy’s story now. This was just too good.

3.5 stars rounded up because I had a fun time with this.
This was the best book in the series so far.

These books are so sweet and easy to read. I just finished a heavier book, and this was the perfect little fun read. The MMC is a naga, which is apparently a lower-body snake and upper-body human. And let me tell you, we learned quite the interesting fact about snake anatomy.

This was a really cute 4.5 star read. Sybil had a massive redemption arc in the previous Redrock books, so it was nice to see her matched with ridiculously sexy naga shifter Zayn. Together they try to break the curse that’s plagued Zayn’s family for three generations. Along the way there are adorable antics from Sybil’s sweet familiars, some shifter-style smashing, and old friends helping out this star-crossed pair. A Maggie Mayhem book is always a must read for me.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

There isn’t much substance here, but that’s okay because I don’t expect to see it here anyways. Just like the previous books, this is kinda cringey, the characters don’t have a crazy amount of depth, but it’s fun and it’s cute.
Books like this feel like filler in my reading goal, but I mean that in the most respectful way possible.

Naga snake shifter, a terrible curse that separates him from his Naga and a witty witch with two rats, Salt&Pepper as familiars.
This was a quick read, nothing particularly extraordinary in terms of plot or character depth, but still a decent story.
I just felt like a short, low angst story and frankly this one did offer precisely that.

it was better but still shallow

Maggie do your characters have depth? I question this strongly because there is very little depth to the men. There are basically HIMBO’s and almost useless

I would say this is more like 2.5 than 3.

The MMC is shallow. The introduction of the pet name is dumb. The guy is ridiculously obsessed with money. One would have expected it to be more about a dragon. But whatever. On top of that, for someone who is a shifter he doesn’t know really anything about them. He also is a terrible shifter himself. His ability to taste the air is mentioned in this book and then later on in the epilogue it just basically disappears and she is able to surprise him with something. Why? Because if you ditch the ability to scent the air then it works. If you actually bother to read your own work then no the epilogue doesn’t work and you are just spewing nonsense that is incongruent with what you have already put on paper. But whatever, I am not going to continue with this series if she puts out more works.

Please write better male characters.

Also, the first sexy interaction past the kiss is completely forced. Like I just read it going ahh yes Maggie we had to hit that bullet point in order to move forward.

It was done at the cost of the book and natural character growth and movement. That is never a good price to pay.

I didn’t love this. The transitions into the first couple of sex scenes were abrupt and jarring. It did not feel like an organic evolution of the relationship. It improved through the middle and later portion and the big action scene near the end was gripping, but then the MMC and another character committed an entirely unnecessary premeditated murder that the FMC was totally fine with, and I really had trouble wanting these people to live out their HEA. It was especially weird and arbitrarily because the same people just shrugged their shoulders at the female villain getting away with everything because she’s rich. The difference felt more about sexual rivalry than justice, in a very icky way. I also really dislike the “snotty rich woman” voice the female narrator chose to employ; it was both grating and didn’t fit the character.

Sybil, the female witch lead, is becoming frustrated with the regular ongoing noise from her neighbour’s apartment. Zayn, the male Naga lead, is under a curse and his shifts to his snake form are no longer under his control. When Sybil finds his snake form writhing uncontrollably in his unlocked apartment, she magically calms his snake. When he explains, she offers to help him find a cure whilst he helps her move house and keeps a determined suitor at bay. But her unwanted suitor is stalking her and he’s involving magical others as well plus Zayn is worried the curse is becoming stronger and can’t persuade his snake that Sybil isn’t his mate…

This story is dual POV, well written and edited, and a sweet and spicy addition to this series. I enjoyed Sybil’s strength and self-sufficiency - she didn’t really need Zayn’s help but allowed him to provide support for his benefit. I enjoyed Zayn’s personal development and his three forms, with intimate fun to be had in two of them. I enjoyed the erotic intimate scenes. I enjoyed the integrated secondary characters and Sybil’s familiars, and the subplot around them. I’m enjoying this author’s writing very much and looking forward to the next story immensely.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.

Sybil (h), a strong-willed witch, finds herself tangled with her noisy neighbor, Zayn (H), a cursed Naga losing control over his transformations into his snake form. Sybil discovers his predicament and offers to help him break the curse. As they spend more time together, their feelings deepen, and the curse becomes a shared concern. Plenty of humor, spicy moments, and endearing interactions with Sybil's familiars, as Sybil and Zayn navigate not only their own secrets but also the danger lurking in the shadows. A sweet and steamy pnr mix of romance, humor, and mystery.

4&1\2 terrific 🌟's for The Naga Next Door!💖🔥🌟

this is sybil' s story. we met this powerful witch in the first 2 books where she helped others with their problems which lead too the couples falling in love. well now ite rubik's turn. in the last book a naga movie d in next door and was banging on the walls and being a regular nuisance. zayn, is cursed! his grandfather was the original being cursed , it seems to have been passed down from one generation to another. his father left his mother and now he's worried he'll loose himself to his full snake half. when he sees sybil for the first time his snake half knows that she belongs to him as his mate. When Sybil offers to help him break the curse. They get to know one another and start to help each other with various little things around their homes. As they get closer friendship grows and love blooms! This is such a wonderful story. It had moments of laughter, sadness and just enough angst to keep you Turing the pages. I hope they'll be more stories in the series. 🌟🔥🌟🔥🌟🔥🌟🔥🌟🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🔥🔥🌟💖🌟🔥💖🔥🌟💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥

I didn't like this book as much as I did the first two in the series. Everything felt like it was solved way too easily () and the "bad guy" didn't get the comeuppance needed (). There was too much instalove and not enough growth in their relationship. Meh.

4.5 stars.

This is the third book of the Possessive Monsters series. I've read books 1-2 already, and I highly recommend reading this series in order as too many nuances are homages are lost not doing so.

Though I wasn't as taken with this series with Book 1, I was more pleased with Book 2. I have a soft spot in my literary heart for nagas, and I was more than willing to continue this series. I'm glad I did. This book isn't the aggressive action-adventure as Book 2 was, but it has its action-adventure moments, especially towards the end.

I like storie that present mysteries, in this case, a naga with a terrible generational curse triggered by his grandfather that has caused too much damage and pain to this 30-ish naga who has done nothing to deserve it. But it has discolored his future ever since he found out, even to the point of getting a vasectomy to prevent from passing this curse to any offspring. His grandfather went insane and had to be hunted down and killed. His father left him and his mother to who-knows-where, living the rest of his life as a serpent, the end product of the curse, and our male love interest, Zayn, is now waiting his turn to going insane, living as a recluse as he cannot control his inner serpent who fights to shift without warning. He's never, until the curse came to fruition, was a serpent, always a naga. It's like he's become separated from his naga persona and struggles now with his serpent like a schizophrenic.

Our female love interest is Sibyl, a friend to our heroines from the previous books and a witch of sizable power that operates the wards of Redrock Securities. She's cleaning out her grandmother's cottage filled with all of her grandmother's crap (no, really powerful crap in some cases!) but at her condo, she is very angry with all the banging happening next door when she's trying to take care of business at her condo next door. She's told by her annoying recluse of a neighbor it's his clothes dryer, but it never gets fixed. And now she's being further annoyed by a guy she's only met in the recent past to make him a male baby so he can inherit his family's fortune as part of some weird idea based on friends with benefits. But the more she refuses, the worse his threats become. She's also envious of her female friends' mateships with the guys of Redrock Securities. Loneliness is a problem that even with her close relationship with her ratty familiars can't help.

So what do she do when a HUGE serpent immediately sees her as his mate and builds a den in order to coerce her hand as well as her heart?

I really liked how this book works itself through an unusual yet very satisfying day-in-the-life type of book about the evolution of Zayn's and Sibyl's relationship, his fight to maintain his sanity, knowing full well he will have to leave her in order to protect her, and her fight for her reproductive rights as well as her heart.

The world-crafting is less than the other books but serves to elaborate on some of the points too small and insignificant to deal with in the first two books. The editing is better... but could still use some more work. I think there were areas that could had been expanded upon, but I do like the general avoidance of most story plot templating. I always appreciate the inclusion of previous characters and their furries (always!!) as it maintains richness of characters I never wanted to part ways from! (I just hate doing that!) And yes, the issue of forced motherhood via blackmail is dealt with, but our Maggie Mayhem only opens up another villainess that I would have liked to have seen more of. (There is yet another book to read, however...)

Awesome Story !! . . .

Witch Sybil was going crazy with the pounding next door. It was affecting her sleep and had to stop! Even her paintings on the wall were swaying as her candles vibrated dangerously! Now his noise had awakened her two rat familiars, Salt and Pepper. And it started up again, so she stomped over to threaten him. Zayn had been trying to get control over his uncontrollable shift. Zayn stepped close to her, not trying to get in her face but trying to close the apartment door to hide the wreck his serpent made of the living room. He blamed his defective dryer, and he could see she wasn’t believing that. He invited her to dinner then realized he could not leave the apartment for more than a few minutes. He had inherited a terrible curse causing out of control shifts and lots of damage to his apartment. The curse began sooner than expected for his age, so his plans to save up and buy a place in the middle of nowhere didn’t work, as he had to keep moving from place to place using up the money he had saved. It was a lonely existence, but he refused to marry and pass this curse to a child.

Sybil was meeting with a client at her apartment when the pounding started again. She had inherited a home out in the country from Great-granny Sylvana, but it was so cluttered with artifacts which messed with her energy that Sybil wasn’t ready to move in. But the pounding made her consider starting to clean out the house and move there next week. She went out on the balcony to do yoga when Zayn came out on his balcony too. She shared a glass of wine with him. But later while working, the banging started again. This time, his door was slightly open, his groceries on the floor. She walked in and a giant silver serpent was banging the wall with its tail. This must be Zayn’s shifted form. Sybil sensed magic, not his but something else, something older that was controlling and hurting him. It struck at her, but she dived to the side. He struck again and coiled around her as she raised a magical shield so he couldn’t squeeze her. Then she put a sleep spell on him and stroked his head, adding more power to the spell. She lowered his head gently to the floor as he shifted to human, still sleeping. She picked up a scale he had lost and went back to her apartment to get a spell book, then returned to find a personal item of his for her spell. Spelling his watch created a slave bracelet to stop shifters from shifting, but it creates a bond with the witch. As they decided to keep the watch on him to prevent the shift, since only the witch could remove it, a sudden pounding on a door sounded… someone was at Sybil’s door and the guy was angry! It was Nigel whom she had to partner with as a teen learning potions. He was not very good at magic at all. When the family fortune would be inherited by whichever relative was the strongest in power, he told Sybil he wanted her to have his baby! When she said no, he threatened her. Up to now, he had never found where she lived. Would Zayn be able to protect her… without shifting? Could she keep Nigel away with her witch skills? Now that he was avoiding Sybil, he saw her moving out boxes to a van. Was this the end of being with her? Despite his decision, he didn’t want to lose her! Would Nigel go after her again?

I wasn't sure what to expect with this one but I LOVED IT! I was on the fence sometimes with Sybil and her personality but she really won me over in this one. I loved that we got a monster that is not prevalent a lot in monster romances with the serpent/Naga.

I wanted to hug Zayn but also shake him silly when he was being non-communicative and such a guy not talking about his feelings hahaha. I did love him though and his serpent was adorable. I liked how it never went after Sybil's rats no matter what. The rats were amazing btw, I smiled and laughed a lot with their antics and I loved seeing Sybil's magic in regards to them (esp the bag where it connected back and all that). I liked rats getting some spotlight because they are good pets! and super smart and cuddly but their lifespans suck so much! Loved Zayn's serpent and his nest and cuddling with her and his sadness when his appendage wouldn't work out too well with Sybil's body hahahaha.

Sybil was super spitfire and feisty and sassy but I loved seeing her honor her family and go through the house, how she was always there for her friends and they undoubtedly reciprocated because of how awesome she was. I loved how much she saw her rats as her besties and how she wouldn't give up on Zayn despite everything that happened. I liked the steam between these two, it felt more natural even though the animalistic part of Zayn kept taking over and making it hard for them. The chemistry was right and the steam wasn't all at once, it wasn't exactly a slow burn but was well paced. I liked Sybil just going with it when his serpent took her to the nest and wouldn't let her leave hahaha. Also she knows she is a BA witch that could take him down and protect herself anyways haha.

Plot in this one was way better, had a baddie not taking no for an answer and got others involved. I do want to know more about the shifters/monsters that were rescued at the end! I hope the next book is the friends with benefits who got the raw end of the deal and threatened to put the Naga in his place if he hurt Sybil! He is funny but also hurt her and pay for it protective haha.

Narration was fantastic, I felt this one even more because of Zayn and his curse and how the male narrator really brought both sides of him to life. They almost felt like different characters in a way until the curse was lifted. Female narrator did a good job, really felt all the different emotions and personalities that had to be performed. The entitled brat at the end was done well haha, wanted to chuck a book at her.

Best one of the series so far, will catch up on more of the series later in the month after I listen to some contemporary stories for a mood change.

Good

Sybil and Zayn
Zayn is a Naga with a control problem, he is beset by a curse that makes his serpent side uncontrollable, and possibly even dangerous!
When he moves into the condo next door to Sybil, he becomes one annoying neighbour, and Sybil is determined to find out why.
When she hears his problem, the feisty (and quite powerful) witch is determined to find the answers for him.

This is a sweet romance, with a little steam, and part of the Possessive Monsters series. It’s a standalone romance, and can be read by itself, though there may be slight spoilers for the preceding two books if you haven’t yet read them.
Zayn is a bit of a cinnamon roll hero, and quite possibly his own worst enemy. He’s self sacrificing to a fault, and might just have met his match in the witch next door.
Sybil is a witch, confident in her abilities, something it was actually quite nice to see- because she never lacked confidence in herself. Powerful, she knew her own strengths (and weaknesses) and was strong enough to ask for help when she needed it (most of the time).
I thoroughly enjoyed this book with its “nice” heroes, who weren’t super-powered or beset by annoying or unjustified doubts, but were still strong and still flawed in ways that made sense.
I haven’t yet read the other books in the series (I really liked the blurb on this one), but I’ll definitely be going back to read those that came before this one, because it’s an enjoyable world, with rather likeable characters.
If you’re an urban fantasy romance lover, a PNR lover, or a fan of monster heroes in your romances, then you’ll enjoy this story.

What They Didn’t Know They Were Looking For

After meeting Sybil in the 1st two books, I was so excited to get her story. With her sassy attitude, I knew it’d take a special “man” to handle her, and she definitely got more than she bargained for with Zayn, a cursed Naga. I felt so bad for Zayn. Fighting a curse, and feeling like your life was already over at 30, would definitely suck. I just wanted to give him a hug. He, and his serpent, are both drawn to Sybil though, whether he thinks it’s a good idea or not lol. In trying to help him break his curse, Sybil & Zayn grow closer, even though they both feel like falling in love is impossible for them. Sometimes life brings you what you didn’t even know you needed though. I love the friendship they build, but that doesn’t mean that they’re lacking in passion or chemistry 😉🥵🔥 As if curses and illegal magic (shhh, don’t tell 🤫😂) aren’t enough to deal with, more drama, twists & turns, and chaos find its way into their lives. Will they be able to get through the constant craziness of other outside forces, break the spell, and admit their feelings so that they can get their own HEA? Read the story to find out 😝
Also….OMGOSH, Salt & Pepper were so cute 🥰 You definitely find out really quick that Sybil would do anything for her familiars, and I mean anything 🫣

I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Sybil is a witch who took over her granny's Wards & Witchery business. She's a strong witch with two little rats as familiars, with plans for her future.

Zayn is a naga shifter losing the battle with a curse that has him losing control of his shifts and separating him from his Naga. He thought he had a plan to keep everyone safe but is quickly losing himself to despair.

When her new neighbor's antics leave the walls thumping at all hours, she is determined to have it out with her new neighbor only to find herself face to face with his snake form. After hearing Zayn's story Sybil helps him with a temporary fix, while searching for a way to remove the curse entirely. While that's going on, Sybil has a stalker who wants her to have his baby, and who isn't afraid to try blackmail to get what he wants, which leads to more mayhem.

Overall, this is a quick read, with a quick fall into lustiness while they work together to end the curse, clean out her granny's home, and a dash of danger. I think the story would have benefited from more fleshing out. The story felt rushed and two dimensional, without a lot of depth, I had hoped for.

Sweet, Steamy, and Enthusiastic 🫣

The Naga Next Door is exactly the kind of paranormal monster romance I crave when I want a little bit of everything. It was a bit addictive, spicy, and unexpectedly tender.

I really enjoyed the chemistry between the human heroine and the naga love interest -- that all started with a BANG! and confrontation.😅 It's electric from the start, and there's a good job blending danger, desire, and emotional depth.

The worldbuilding continues to be lush without slowing the pace, and the monster‑romance elements feel good and free flowing rather than gimmicky and forces. Which in some books..has unfortunately happened.

Sybil and Zayn are close to my top favs I think for this series...but I'm really bad at choosing 😅🫣
I loved how the naga’s instincts and physicality were woven into the romance but really focused on trusting all parts of you.. and your person..even if there is a curse involved. His snake sure did have its own personality but also knew exactly what it wanted.

You also get more familiars investment - which was kind of just great honestly. 🐁🐭

If you’re into protective, possessive, non‑human heroes with a soft spot for their chosen mate, this book delivered just that. Who thought the avoidant neighbor would have such a dirty mouth and quick grabby hands.... or fast wrapping coils 🫣🫣😜🥵

Sybil is a witch who has taken over her great grandmother's wards business. She recently got a new neighbor who is driving her nuts. Zayn is a hot naga shifter but he is doing strange and very loud things. She keeps hearing loud crashes and bangs. Sybil finally has had enough and goes over to give him a piece of her mind. The more she gets to know him, she learns that he is suffering under a curse which makes his serpent out of control.

Zayn's grandfather angered a witch who put a curse on him. He lost control of his serpent in his mid 30s. Zayn's father inherited the curse and decided to leave his family in his mid-thirties. Zayne has decided that he was going to be prepared for his turn. He is determined to not have a family so the curse will not go on to the next generation. He had planned to work hard in his twenties to be able to by remote land for his serpent. However the curse strikes him early so he is stuck in an apartment. Sssasteam with a sssside of sssnake - just what the doctor ordered!

It's always refreshing to read shifter stories that deal with something other than a canine/feline base. Sybil and Zayn made for very fun and relatable characters - witchiness and naganess aside. You know a book is modern when it mentions inflation making things impossible to afford.

This book definitely keeps things moving at a great pace. There are some sudden twists, some easier to swallow than others, but overall, it's a very quick read.

Also, despite not being interested in rats at all, Maggie Mayhem managed to make Salt and Pepper such darlings that you couldn't help but love them as much as Sybil did.

My favorite chapter had to be when we were in Zayn's POV as a snake. His snake was just too precious! I would have loved to read more of that, although I'm thrilled with what we got.

My only criticism of the book would be that the romance got started a little too suddenly. The way Zayn started that first kiss was a little too much like asking for sexual favors for a job, and it didn't leave the greatest feeling...but this is also a mating bond story, and those typically make things happen very fast, so I can overlook it. Definitely a recommended read!
