A lovely gentle book that describes a year in the life a Quaker, Faith. It had some lovely moving passages together with beautiful descriptions of the scenery around the cabin. As the book progressed it became more emotionally spiritual as Faith looked into the lives of her ancestors.

Margaret Hope Bacon has written a number of highly recommended Quaker histories and biographies. I just couldn't wrap my mind around this novel, exploring the last year of life of an active Quaker woman deeply immersed in the subculture of Friends.

To face old age, diminishment, and dying with grace and beauty is the ultimate accomplishment of life. The first two chapters were difficult to get into, a bit confusing and too many characters introduced too fast. But it deepens into the spiritual search of the main character as she faces illness and death and lives more fully in the process. Looking at lives of her Quaker ancestors and offspring gives a very human look at history.
