Earth is invaded by extraterrestrials who seem to have developed a taste for humans. It's a war for survival.
There's a such thing as being too stupid to live, and that describes every person in this book.

Such a fun read. I loved the different POV’s so you could get insights on what the other characters were thinking. Gave me an almost fallout/alien vibe which was really cool. Looking forward to seeing where the plot goes in the rest of the series

The narrator was pretty good. His accent comes through really strong on certain words which sometimes muddles some of them. He also makes his cuts so tight he chops off words (like the “s” off gun/run).

WE GET IT! He has a plate in his leg and it hurts due to gunshot. We get it! We don’t need to be reminded every two mins.

It’s been 8 years don’t you think the kids would have been trained pretty well and be doing various missions

Gas doesn’t last that long much less 8+ years

Sunset isn’t a set time nor is it assigned a specific time for a specific day. It changes each day each year so saying 630 on the dot this time of year is just utter crap

Getting in to see the governor is super easy and speaking to him, dismissing his guards using the most stupid excuses is just lazy writing.

Telling the same scene twice from different POVs is incredibly lazy page filler especially when it gives no new information.

Living in a country your whole adult life doesn’t make you a citizen so the Latina victim using that to say she’s American doesn’t make any sense.

Devon said in his lie that his kids were 6 and 3 and that their mom died when the specks came but the time jump says it was 8 years later so they were born 2+ years after mom died? If the writer can’t keep their own timeline straight there’s an issue.

Surely we don’t need to know it’s sulfuric every single time we hear about their smell.

Did the writer seriously just say how the group was just at cur the day before but then mentions how the town is just like how krystal remembers it?

I’m sorry, what? It would be too much of a coincidence that the “collaborator” they saw nearby two nights ago might be the same one Adam’s with right then but it’s not an insane (more lazy writing) coincidence that it just so happens to be someone Adam knew from 8 years ago?!?

Also, the term collaborator should be stopped after we learn that they aren’t working with the aliens but have been enslaved and mind controlled. There’s absolutely a difference.

The whole situation with the raiders is so ridiculously contrived. First, anyone loving the life of a raider you know going in there’s a chance of dying but the fact they attacked first and then kept saying how their people were murdered is just delusional.

Severed arteries (from a ripped off arm) wouldn’t “dribble” blood. It would be spurting with each heartbeat pulse.

The writer occasionally (especially at the end) goes into more page-filler tactics by describing every minute detail when it’s not necessary. We don’t need to know someone took the keys out of their pocket, put it in the ignition, turned the key, and started the car. We don’t know need to know that he turned his back to her, unbuttoned his shirt, shrugged out of his shirt, the shirt pooled around his waist. We know how all these things work and can easily understand “he turned on the car” would naturally include all those steps without needing them written out. It’s a clear sign of novice writing and an attempt to extend page length. It’s especially common in this genre when someone is trying to stretch out a one book story into multiple books and that’s just what this author is doing.

This author, along with far too many others who have jumped on the self-publishing craze, needs to learn quantity doesn’t equate to quality. He is much better than many others who bombard the genre with their survivalist p0r* wannabe books. There’s a decent enough story here so with some actual honing of the craft he can produce higher quality material.

Nightstalkers: The Extinction Event -- who will survive

A very exciting adventure. A normal family unit must survive in a post invasion world. There are the known enemies, the alien creatures that are forever hunting human, And, as it always seems, wretched humans whose behavior is equally alien to a civil society. It is much harder to spot the threat from humans than the aliens, but to survive you must be as ruthless as them when necessary. Author Jasper T. Scott will never waste your time when you choose to read one of his many books, This book, Nightstalkers, continues that tradition. I also highly recommend the audible book performed by the talented Roger Wayne.

I liked the book pretty much. But, at times, some of the actions of the characters didn't seem to make sense. The decisions of the main character didn't always seem feasible. Lastly, the way the main character's final escape from the Specs (Stalkers?...I became confused to which were which once the modified Harry character showed itself at the end) in the underground city cavern wasn't believable. But the story kept me reading to the end and that is a good book to me (I am difficult to please).

I made a good effort but could not get very far in this book. I enjoy post-apocalyptic fiction and this premise sounded great. But, if I had to read “primary bedroom” one more time I was going to throw my Kindle across the room. I get it. We aren’t calling them master bedrooms anymore. I GET IT! Apparently this author wanted everyone to know how hip to the times he is. When I am referring to my bedroom in my own home I rarely call it the master bedroom or the primary bedroom or the main floor bedroom. I call it my room. I pretty much always refer to bedrooms by who sleeps in them. Second choice would be the location in the house. So, sure, maybe this is just a language change I’m not used to but it threw me out of the story one too many times. I had other problems with the writing but that was the primary problem.
Hahaha. See what I did there.

This was another apocalypse story. With an added twist that the meteor wasn't a meteor, it was aliens bent on destroying humanity.
I guess the reason I didn't enjoy this book so much is that it had an awful lot of fighting the aliens, (I know, that's why the aliens are there) and not so much, how do we survive when just about all structure to our government and everything is gone? And that's just me and what I like.
I liked the way 2 families came together. I just would like people in the stories to not be such idiots that they cause so much trouble for themselves.
It's not really for me, but you may like it.

Jasper T. Scott's "Nightstalkers" sets a thrilling tone from the start, plunging readers into the calm of modern-day suburbia before ripping that peace apart with an impending meteor strike. The story follows Adam, an Army veteran turned English teacher, his wife Kim, their daughter Crystal, and others as they navigate the physical devastation and the eerie and hostile aftermath.

One of the novel’s greatest strengths is its well-developed characters. Adam's transformation from a suburban dad and English teacher to a survivalist relying on his military training is both believable and compelling, showcasing the depth of his resilience and adaptability. The contrast between his family life and his survival instincts creates a layered protagonist that readers can root for. Additionally, the supporting characters are far from mere background figures; they play meaningful roles that drive the story forward and add emotional weight to its unfolding drama.

The post-apocalyptic setting combined with an alien invasion, the importance of protecting family, and humanity's cyclical need for destruction and revenge bring the tense atmosphere of "A Quiet Place" and the emotional weight of "The Last of Us." This adds a thought-provoking subtext that elevates the book beyond a simple survival narrative.

The book delivers nonstop action and suspense, maintaining a fast pace from start to finish. The book's writing style strikes a perfect balance between vivid descriptions and modern dialogue. Jasper T. Scott's prose is engaging, easily capturing its readers' attention. The modern language feels authentic and relatable, avoiding the pitfalls of overly casual or forced phrasing. This approachable style keeps the narrative flowing smoothly, enhancing the fast-paced action and emotional depth of the story.

Overall, Nightstalkers offers a gripping blend of survival, family bonds, and extraterrestrial terror. It’s a thrilling ride for fans of apocalyptic fiction, with enough heart and humanity to make it memorable.

I finish this book two days after starting. It's a fast pace book that deals with an invasion of a alien species that hunts humanity.

You've got this meteors that fall on earth and destroy either cities or fall on seas drowning millions. Our survivors (Adam and her daughter Crystal) try to survive by going to a farm far from the cities center. After 80 pages we are now 8 years ago. After living on that farm they discover something that makes them thing they should go tell the governor of Texas. And the vast majority of the book is set on that travel. There are some interesting characters and developments that make you turn one page after the other.

Some criticisms:
- Why humanity didn't fought back, with nukes, tanks and 6 billion people (back in 1980) and thrown into almost oblivion with monsters that behave like bears or something like that. It's kind of strange. Hey, don't think about it.
- What is the purpose of this aliens in the great scheme of things since we know that are "intelligent" aliens out there? Don't think about it.
- With still million of people at least in Texas (and we know there are million more in nearby countries) why don't fight back? We don't get to know.
- Two characters suffered injuries but just after they are just fine and they can do anything without any issue.
There are other stuff that I would say it's strange - per example in the plot itself. The questions remain for book 2. I don't know if they are going to explain everything to be fair, because some of the question should already been answered.

I enjoy the book, the part that is fast pace thriller that make me wonder and want to know what is happening. But it's like the other book I've read. It felt incomplete and unfinish. 3.5/5

All in all it's decent. There are some incrongruities. Minor spoilers but more about the world than the story.

Aliens invade - large killing monsters that soak up a lot of damage. Not too bright but great sense of smell and hearing. EMP and spaceships that take out military and infrastructure. The story starts with the night of the invasion and a group of people trying to survive and get away.

It jumps 8 yrs to where main characters are living as part of a 4 group family on a ranch just trying to survive. Barricade themselves in at night when the monsters hunt. Also make lots of dumb decisions that seem like would have gotten most or all of them killed trying to survive in this world. End up making a trek to the region center of government and are awed at hot water. This one just irked me. Have a whole conversation about how nice hot showers are and they could do that. But it would take so much firewood, who's going to cut and split it. They're in Texas. A black tank or bag full of water will get plenty warm most of the year. I don't know why that just annoyed me but it really did.

Also they have somehow managed to survive 8 years with (now) teenage girls who can't stop exclaiming loudly every time they are upset, angry, or scared. And drawing the monsters with their great sense of hearing to the group to try and break into their shelter. 8 yrs hasn't taught them to BE QUIET?

All in all it's pretty good entertainment. Just a few things that bugged me.

Received as an ARC, this is an honest review.

Your Summer adrenaline rush is here and it's an epic, visceral, poignant badass of a story you won't soon forget.

One moment life was good for Adam, his wife Kim and their young daughter Crystal living in Austin Texas; then their modern lives are shattered as meteors crash all around and the world is plunged into darkness. But that's nothing compared to the nightmarish creatures that begins stalking and murdering anyone they can catch; with his to protect with their home destroyed and lost, Adam takes his family to a friend and his ranch out in the middle of nowhere. A heart shattering loss on the way to their new future is only the beginning of a new hell they found themselves in.

And this is just the prologue alone.

Picking up eight years, Adam, Crystal along with another family that took shelter at Adam friend's ranch and have managed to make a life out of the new reality of individual Republics, wild lands and safe zones. But it's a harrowing encounter that changes everything as for Adam and his cohorts find themselves racing to unravel secrets, surviving alien encounters and disturbing betrayals that leaves their lives hanging on a knife's edge.

Survival comes with consequences. But it could mean having a future.

Highly recommended.

The main character is a bit of a jerk and does not really behave in accordance with his backstory. He's supposed to be an ex-military English teacher, but he's basically all ex-military no English teacher. I less you had a strict English teacher who didn't give you any perspective on life, but that's never been my experience with English teachers. Definitely seems like he's written to appeal to preppers without actually being one. Main character also has some pretty insane plot armor - I get stories are about the lucky heros, but it becomes a bit ridiculous at some point.

I also don't really get why the plot has his kid in it beyond trying to recreate the last of us. This might be a personal preference because domestic life doesn't appeal to me, but a lot of the interpersonal drama seems vacuous - like the characters don't really have a reason for their low-level drama then the high level plot moving drama comes out of nowhere. Hell, the book end without giving or hinting why the peak bit of plot occured.

Writing itself is fine, but the story needs work.

Tl;Dr: No likable characters, ridiculous plot armor, incoherent interpersonal drama, semi-coherent plot.

Truly Suspenseful

A normal summer day winding down with steaks on the grill when a meteor crashes to earth in Texas and we are introduced to Adam, former military man turned English teacher with a wife, kid and dog in the aftermath. He is thrust into survival mode and decides to take his family to an old army buddies ranch that is well off the grid. That’s when he discovers that it wasn’t just one meteor, they hit all over the earth along with an EMP strike before an invasion. These aliens are nocturnal and feast on humans. They have forced redrawn boundaries to the United States which no longer stands and the country is now divided and Adam currently lives in the Republic on Sun Valley Ranch. Living on the ranch has isolated Adam, his family and a few others but that didn’t stop them from making a huge discovery about their invaders and a possible negotiation between humans and aliens.

What can I say about this book?
Nightstalkers
The Extinction Event
is quite the ride from start to finish.

In typical Jasper Scott style, you will easily find yourself "in the story" through the eyes of the leading character.

The depth of characters and the connections between family members are realistic and plausible.

The adventure and drama's that unfold take numerous twist and turns, which provide some complexities along with slight local political undertones.

While the suspense is lacking the pace and action more than compensates.

I found myself gripped in wanting to see what the next page held. I found the overall experience very satisfying.

Like any good book, the start needs to be as good as it's ending.
This book finishes well.
It sets up the premises for the next installment.

A very enjoyable read that is completely satisfying.
I was not disappointed,
I trust you will agree with me.
Well done Jasper T Scott.
I'm looking forward to the continued story.

Oh my! I think my heart stopped a few times while reading this book. I know I stopped breathing a few times as I didn't want the Stalkers to find our friends. What a thing to have to go through. Your life is just going along normally when suddenly your world is turned upside down with these Stalkers out to take over Earth by terraforming it to how they like it. But first they need to get rid of the humans. Then there's the Raiders and Scavengers out to get what they could take from others. I am pumped to read the next book to see what our group has to go through to survive. Thank you, Jasper T. Scott, for keeping my heart pumping. I hope we never have to face anything like this in my life time though!

I started off enjoying this book greatly as its well written and well thought out...at the start. Unfortunately it got quite stupid quite quickly with an ex-trained soldier making basic stupid illogical mistakes time and time again and resulting in tradegies galore.
The next problem for me was that they skipped the most exciting part of any apocalypse book and went from the main event to 8 years later when everything has settled down and is nowhere near as exciting.
There are also a lot of stupid coincidences, too many plot holes, too many evil baddies for the sake of being evil and not enough reason to pull me in to read the 2nd book in the series.

Scary Alien Invasion
I just finished reading this story and it was a thrill ride of a story. Things were constantly happening. People died, new governments arise, and Aliens are transforming the earth while killing and eating people. There is danger, excitement, terror, and aliens. The world as we know it has ended and everyone has to work to survive. Jasper T. Scott has lived up to his reputaion of writing an easy to read, attention grabbing, can't put it down story. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

A thrilling apocalyptic story

One of the best I've recently read. Looking forward for the second book in this series.
It is exciting, tense, on edge. The characters are never safe for long. They are believable because of their flaws, bad and good decisions making, pain, bravery, cowardice, survival and protective instincts in conflict, relationships, and they can get hurt. They all have different shades of gray, no black and white.
Every chapter leads you to the next, I was entertained from start to end.

Good Alien Invasion Read

I admit it took me a moment to get into the story line. It’s a personal quirk with me… I don’t take well to sudden large leaps in time. That being said, I truly enjoyed the characters, the general premise, and overall it is a well executed book that will keep you guessing (and possibly biting your nails!)

Mr. Scott is an excellent artist, and having woven an enticing first novel in the series… I am not going to embark in book two! Read this book!

Enjoy!

Enemies have arrived on earth, riding an asteroid. Civilization is decimated, as these aliens are here for flesh, not peace.
Years after the initial incident, mankind is still scraping out a meager existence, fighting to stay fed and fearing the night. That's when the stalkers come out to dine on humans.
But it's now gotten worse. A spaceship is cited, and the figure emerging looks humanoid. Are humans working with the aliens? And who can even be trusted, in this fight for human survival?

Good plot, interesting characters

This book is a "Last of us" and " Extinction " series by NSS. It's a good book, it has some political twist and the typical setting of a apocalyptic alien invaders scenario. Desserted
towns, raiders and scavengers who oppressed the innocent farmers and the former military ranger hero. Always a ranger, never a suburban working class, never a random guy, always a military class. But still is a entertaining read. Might buy the second chapters.

This is a dystopian novel About The aftermath of An asteroid crashing into the water off the gulf coast of Texas.

The novel is well written just not something I want to finish.
I got this e-book from amazon with kindle unlimited.
Back to the science fiction drawing board or something that interests me more.

Good Fast Paced Read

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It wasn’t what I expected it to be. Usually these virus books are just another crazed zombie book. This book was refreshingly different. The plot was fast paced, believable, action-packed, and heart wrenching. I started this book in the evening and finished it the next day. This book is a fun read that keeps the pages turning.

Nvm the fact that over half of the book, you don't even see the creatures. This book was so bad I couldn't even finish it. I've never seen a main character dumber than Adam . The whole point in the plot was because Adam wanted to be dumb, nosey, and get his friend killed . Then decide to take a dumb trip across the waist land for no good reason. The first chapter should have just been what the book was about, but the direction take so was just so dumb.

Roger Wayne's stellar narration made this audiobook, for me. If it wasn't for him, I probably would have DNF'd the novel when I realised how humdrum it all was. Admittedly it's hard to escape certain tropes in a PA/alien invasion sub-genre, but the book just fell flat for me, like I'd heard it before and there was nothing new, not even a fresh paint of coat. I finished the book while at work, just to pass the time, and despite the cliffhanger have no desire to continue the series.

Alien invasion and takeover

The alien invasion is underway. The advance troops and wildlife are consuming vast tracts of land and uncounted swaths of population. Giant machines pull dirt and landscape in one end and spout alien wildlife and vegetation out the other. Terraforming at work. Fight or die! Good read.

do you like monsters?

This book was by far soo much better than I thought it could be. I typically don't do aliens, but the monsters are what drew me to it. Characters are realistic and the situations are face paced and exciting. The stalkers are superbly terrifying, and detailed exquisitely. An excellent read, glad there is another to follow this one up with.

I checked out after the 5th person was described as having blue eyes. And most of the people introduced had blonde hair. God forbid anyone else survived the apocalypse.

Plus, too many people making dumb decisions. I literally throw my hands up when it was revealed the teens were in the back of the truck.

I kept skipping ahead.

The narrator was good though.
