About the author

Herbert George Wells was born to a working class family in Kent, England. Young Wells received a spotty education, interrupted by several illnesses and family difficulties, and became a draper's apprentice as a teenager. The headmaster of Midhurst Grammar School, where he had spent a year, arranged for him to return as an "usher," or student teacher. Wells earned a government scholarship in 1884, to study biology under Thomas Henry Huxley at the Normal School of Science. Wells earned his bachelor of science and doctor of science degrees at the University of London. After marrying his cousin, Isabel, Wells began to supplement his teaching salary with short stories and freelance articles, then books, including The Time Machine (1895), The Island of Dr. Moreau (1896), The Invisible Man (1897), and The War of the Worlds (1898).

Wells created a mild scandal when he divorced his cousin to marry one of his best students, Amy Catherine Robbins. Although his second marriage was lasting and produced two sons, Wells was an unabashed advocate of free (as opposed to "indiscriminate") love. He continued to openly have extra-marital liaisons, most famously with Margaret Sanger, and a ten-year relationship with the author Rebecca West, who had one of his two out-of-wedlock children. A one-time member of the Fabian Society, Wells sought active change. His 100 books included many novels, as well as nonfiction, such as A Modern Utopia (1905), The Outline of History (1920), A Short History of the World (1922), The Shape of Things to Come (1933), and The Work, Wealth and Happiness of Mankind (1932). One of his booklets was Crux Ansata, An Indictment of the Roman Catholic Church. Although Wells toyed briefly with the idea of a "divine will" in his book, God the Invisible King (1917), it was a temporary aberration. Wells used his international fame to promote his favorite causes, including the prevention of war, and was received by government officials around the world. He is best-remembered as an early writer of science fiction and futurism.

He was also an outspoken socialist. Wells and Jules Verne are each sometimes referred to as "The Fathers of Science Fiction". D. 1946.

ان تكون صادقا بين الكاذبين
ان تكون نشيطا بين الكسالي
ان تكون ثائرا بين الخانعين

اذن فانت مختلف

لو كنت شابا و بريئا ستصدم حينما تتاكد ان الاختلاف جريمة..و انهم الصح مهما كنت على حق. .فالظلام انواع و دائما في النهاية ينتصر و يسود
ا{ لقد كنت اتصرف بحماقة و نزق..اعترف انه لا يوجد شيء اسمه : البصر }ا
هكذا يؤكد نيونز لساكني وادي العميان الذي وقع فيه اثناء رحلته الجبلية..و لان ساكني الوادي مكفوفي البصر منذ 15جيل ..فلا يفهمون معنى البصر و لا ماهيته و لا فوائده
و هكذا ينكسر غرور بطلنا تدريجيا على صخرة "الاختلاف"و بعد ان كان متاكدا ان الاعور ملك في بلد العميان..صار اقرب لمجذوب القرية بسبب اختلافه فنال ضرب و مضايقات و أسوأ معاملة

باسلوبه الفلسفي الأنيق الذي أعشقه ..يمهد ويلز لكل قاريء شاب..ان خروجك عن اي قطيع له ثمن ..و ان بقاؤك ايضا ثمنه اكثر فداحة
و ان سطوة الخطأ قد تكون في قوة الاعصار تعصف بكل ما بقى من عقلك
عندما يكون"العمى"الاختياري شرطاَ للخروج من الانحطاط
اذن فليحيا هذا الانحطاط

Eyes that don't see...

While escalating to the highest point of the Parascotopetl mountain, in Ecuador, Nuñez, a young mountaineer, slips and falls into the deep valley below, yet, miraculously, unharmed. In the darkest parts of the mountainside, surrounded by steep cliffs, profound precipices and completely isolated form the rest of the world, he finds himself among the fabled legendary village of the blind. And as the old saying goes, "In the Country of the Blind, the One-Eyed Man is King."

This was good, for the most part. I found the endless mountain descriptions pretty tedious and didn't take me long to start skimming them, but the rest was good. The story was solid and quite engaging, and enjoyed it accordingly. I learned there are two versions for this story, the original with Nuñez narrowly escaping and a revised extended edition with Nuñez also taking Medina-Saroti with him. I read the former; I wish I had the latter.

Ojos que no ven...

Mientras escala hasta el punto más alto de la montaña Parascotopetl, en Ecuador, Núñez, un joven alpinista, resbala y cae hacia el profundo valle que se encuentra debajo, aunque, milagrosamente, saliendo ileso. En las partes más oscuras de la ladera de la montaña, rodeado de escarpados acantilados, profundos precipicios y completamente aislado del resto del mundo, se encuentra a sí mismo entre el legendario pueblo de los ciegos. Y como dice el viejo refrán: "En el País de los Ciegos, el tuerto es el Rey".

Esto estuvo bueno, en su mayor parte. Las interminables descripciones de las montañas me parecieron bastante tediosas y no me llevó mucho tiempo empezar a saltearlas, aunque el resto estuvo bien. La historia sólida y bastante atrapante, y la disfruté acordemente. Supe que hay dos versiones de esta historia, la original con Núñez escapando por poco y una edición revisada y ampliada con Núñez también llevándose a Medina-Saroti con él. Leí el primero; preferiría haber leído el último.

إن كنا نظن أننا نري. فنحن نرى بالكاد ما بداخلنا. ما نريد أن نراه. جرب أن تنظر إلى فضاء مفتوح بصحبة عدد من الناس و لتسأل كل واحد فيهم عن شيء واحد مما يراه و ستدهشك النتيجة. هذا عن الرؤية المباشرة للأشياء. فماذا عن رؤيتنا للأشخاص؟ عن رؤيتنا للداخل؟ لأنفسنا و أفكارنا و أفكار الأخرين من حولنا؟

كان البصر يخفت بينهم تدريجيا. إلى حد أنهم لم يلحظوا فقدانه.

يا ليته البصر هو الذي خفت تدريجيا في مجتمعاتنا فما أسهل تعويضه بالحواس الأخرى. و لكن التي خفتت تدريجيا هي البصيرة.

كلامك ما بيتفهمش. احساسك مابيتوصفش. انت بتقول كرامة. و هما يردوا بمهانة انت بتقول العدل. بيقولوا عنك ندل.

حينما نفقد الضمير فقد ضاعت البوصلة بالكامل و تساوت كل الاتجاهات. فعندما تقول حرية يسمعونها إباحية و إن قلت عدالة اجتماعية يفهمونها شيوعية و إذا طلبت العدل فأنت قطعا تحصل على تمويل من خارج البلاد و تعمل لصالح الأعداء. أما الأمر الخطير فهو أن تخالف القطيع في تفسيرك للعقيدة رغم مشاركتك لهم في نفس الديانة إلا أن رؤيتك لها يجب أن تكون مطابقة لرؤيتهم.
و كما يقول الشاعر مصطفى إبراهيم: أطيع القطيع الذي تتبعه. فكلٌ بيمشي و قطيعه معه. أو كما قال من قبله أحمد فؤاد نجم: أطيع الخليفه أطع والديك. قطيع التنابله ده مفروض عليك.

وجد نفسه يحاول أن يشرح لهؤلاء الشيوخ القابعين في الظلام في بلد العميان طبيعة العالم العظيم الذي سقط منه. و يحكي لهم عن السماء و الجبال و الإبصار و ما شابه ذلك من عجائب. لم يصدقوا أو يفهموا أي شيء مما كان يخبرهم به. و هو ما كان خارج توقعاته تماما. بل إنهم لم يفهموا كثيرا من كلماته. فلأربعة عشر جيلا. ظل هؤلاء الناس عميانا. و منقطعين عن العالم المبصر. تلاشت أسماء كل الأشياء المتعلقة بالنظر و تغيرت. تلاشت قصة العالم الخارجي و أصبحت حكاية تحكى للأطفال. و لم يعودوا يشغلون بالهم بأي شيء فيما وراء المنحدرات الصخرية التي تعلوا الجدار المحيط بهم. ظهر بينهم عميان عباقرة و أخذوا يشككون في المعتقدات و التقاليد المهترئة التي ورثوها من أزمان إبصارهم السالفة. و من ثم أبطلوا كل هذه الأشياء. باعتبارها ضلالات عديمة الفائدة. و استبدلوا بها تفسيرات جديدة و أكثر تعقلا.

عندما خرجت الجموع في بلادنا تنادي نداء غير تقليدي. حاول كل المنتفعين كبته سنوات طويلة. لم يفهم الحاكم في البداية. ثم قرر ملاعبتنا بادعائه أنه قد فهمنا أخيرا و أصبح معنا على نفس الموجه. و لما لم يفلح في ركوب الموجة. أغرقته. و لكن جاء أعمى أخر ليقود العميان. فكان مصيرنا جميعا إلى الحفرة. و تم إسدال الستار.

بحلول غروب الشمس كان قد كف عن التسلق. لكنه كان قد ابتعد و ارتفع. كان معتادا على الوصول إلى ارتفاعات أكبر. لكن الإرتفاع الذي وصل إليه كان لا يزال شاهقا. كانت ملابسه ممزقة. و كانت أطرافه ملوثة بالدماء. إذ أصابته كدمات في أكثر من موضع. لكنه استلقى كما لو كان في أفضل حالاته. و ارتسمت على وجهه ابتسامة.

اثبت مكانك. هنا عنوانك. ده الخوف بيخاف منك. و ضميرك عمره ما خانك
اثبت مكانك. ده نور الشمس راجع. يا تموت و انت واقف. يا تعيش و انت راكع
اثبت مكانك. ده عينيك شايفة الدليل. ابعد عنهم و سيب. الحيطة عليهم تميل

" الأعور في مدينة العميان ملك . "
أو هكذا يقولون.


علي بعد مئات الأميال من بركان ( كوتوباسي ) و في أشد مناطق جبال الإنديز الاكوادرية وعورةً ، يوجد ذلك الوادي الجبلي الغامض ، منعزلاً عن عالم البشر ، إنه أرض العميان ، منذ سنوات طويلة كان هذا الوادي مركزاً سياحياً ضخماً لجمال طبيعته الخلابة و خصوبة أرضه المزهرة و كانت تحتضنه الجبال الشامخة من كل جانب , حتي حلّ الوباءُ ....


حلّ علي الوادي مرض أصاب معظم أهله بالعمى ، و بعد انهيار جبلي فصل هذا الوادي عن العالم ، بدأ الناس في هذا الوادي بالتكيف فيه و قاموا بحل مشاكلهم و تقدموا في حياتهم و بفضل الطبيعة حولهم كان طعامهم كافٍ لكل اهل الوادي.

حتي وصل متسلق الجبال " نونيز " بعدما سقط من منحدر جبلي ليري أمامه هذه الجنة بجمالها الساحر و التي كان أهلها في وفاق و رغد.

و هنا يعتقد نونيز أنه سيصير حتماً ملكاً عليهم ، فهم بالتأكيد في انتظار منقذهم المُبصر ليكتشف نونيز أن كلمة البصر انقرضت من معاجمهم ، فقد مر علي هذا الوادي جيل بعد جيل لينسوا الحقيقة و تصير أفكارهم الخاصة هي عقيدتهم.


ليكون الأعور في مدينة العميان أكثر عوَراً و عيباً مما كان عليه في مدينة المبصرين.
ليكون هذا حال الذكي بين الاغبياء و العاقل بين المجانين و العالم بين الجهال.

فماذا سيفعل نونيز في هذه المدينة و في هذا الوادي العجيب؟


تقدّم هذه القصة القصيرة رمزية كبيرة للمجتمع حولنا و تحليلاً عميقاً لتطور الأفكار و العادات و هذا سبب شهرتها الواسعة المُستحقة .

رغم أنّ هذه تعتبر أفضل القصص القصيرة لويلز و لكنني أحببت قصة " الباب الذي في الجدار" أكثر قليلا منها ، و لا يمنع أن كليهما من أفضل و أروع أعمال ويلز الخالدة ✨.

- قصة قصيرة عن مكان اسطوري، اناسه عميان يصلهم مبصر بالصدفة! اعتقد لوهلة انه سيكون "ملكاً" بين العميان لتصفعه الحقيقة لاحقاً..

- القصة ليست عن الإبصار والعمى بالمعنى الفيزيولوجي فقط، بل هي عن كل مخالف لواقع ما، عن كل جديد في تقليد، عن كل رافض لوهم تفترضه الاكثرية حقيقةً...

"There are none so blind as those who will not see."
—Proverb

In the wildest wastes of Ecuador's Andes, there nestled a valley which was cut off from the world beyond. Though the valley was lush and beautiful, it harboured a mysterious disease which had rendered its entire populace blind.
Enter Nuñez, a mountaineer from the modern world who, cushioned by a deep drift of snow, miraculously survives a fall from 1,000 feet. He stumbles upon the legendary 'Country of the Blind', a place known to him only in folklore. Arrogant and opportunistic, he seeks to use his optical sense to gain some leverage over the 'simple' villagers — an allegorical trait possibly symbolic of the Spanish Conquistadors who thought themselves superior to the indigenous population under their subjugation.
The villagers, however, have no concept of what it is to be blind, or indeed what it would be like to have the gift of sight, and so the interloper's devious gambit isn't the advantage he had hoped it would be. Metaphorically speaking, the natives are able to 'see' better than Nuñez, whose dark heart is closed off to interracial harmony and the untamed beauty that surrounds him.

In summary, this is a wonderful little fable which sees H.G. Wells using personification to great effect, attributing human characteristics to the magnificent features of the valley's natural surroundings. Nuñez is verily the serpent in the villagers' Garden of Eden.

عاشوا بعيداً في واد سحيق عن العالم
حقاً كانوا عميان...
لكنهم طوعوا الحياة لصالحهم و الطبيعة لخدمتهم
نسجوا الخرافات و صدقوها...أعتقدوا بأن للكون سقف هو سقف واديهم
وظنوا بأن أصوات الطيور ما هى إلا أصوات الملائكة تحواطهم
كانوا يعملون بالليل و ينامون بالنهار
لم يفطنوا إلى ضوء الشمس حيث يستطيع الإنسان أن يرى الأشياء بوضوح
لم يعيروا إهتماماً لحاسة الإبصار

فقد كان ذلك شرطهم

Better reign in hell than serve in heaven?

In a way, the protagonist discovers that innocent heaven is the same kind of hell as his familiar civilisation, only with a slightly different and more collaborative code of conduct. After he unsuccessfully tries to impose his way of living, and his power, on a group of blind people living in a remote mountain village, he has to make the decision whether he bows to their customs completely - by sacrificing what makes him different, his vision - or whether he prefers to move on and fight for his individual survival alone. Free falling.

A deeply pessimistic take on humanity, so convinced of their own absolute truth that they are not even interested in new perspectives. Changing society just means changing the mainstream requirements, not the dogmatic mindset as such. An early example of the ideas that Orwell would summarise as "nationalist". Whoever has the power, has the storytelling rights.

(بلد العميان) قصة خيالية أسطورية، لكنها تفلسف الواقع بشكل مرير
ترى هل حدث لك يومًا وقلت.. أن وجودي في هذا المكان أو هذه البقعة (لطخة آثمة ) كما قالها "نيونز" ؟! عن نفسي قلتها مرارًا

وهل كنت على وشك أن تكفر بكل قناعاتك، وبما يقول المنطق.. فقط لإن من حولك يقولون ذلك، بل ويجبرون عقلك على تصديقه؟!
أنصحك إذا حدث لك ذلك، وحاولت ولم تستطع أن تقنع هؤلاء الحمقى بأنك على صواب، فعليك أن تسلم قدمك إلى الريح وأن تهرب بماتبقى لك من عقل، حتى وإن سرقوا حذاءك.. اتركه لهم وفر .

أثبتت التجارب عبر كل الأزمنة.. أن الشر قوة لا يستهان بها ،قوة تستمد صلابتها من الإستسلام وضعف الأخرين

افتح كتب التاريخ مثلًا وانظر إلى "الكيان الصهيوني" تلك اللطخة الآثمة والبقعة السوداء ، فلسوف تجد أن بلد العميان حقيقة حرة تتنفس، ،ولها شعب وأناس توارثوا فقدان البصيرة منذ عقود وأزمنة سحيقة، يقتلعون عين كل من يدعي أن العين ترى، بل ويدفنون تلك العيون والمآقي في أرض الزيتون والبرتقال الحزين، ويجتمعون حولها في أمسيات اشتهاء، كلما ضاعفوا الأعداد، واغمضوا المزيد من الأجفان

الحقيقة نحن لا نرى الأشياء وأشكالها وألوانها، إلَّا لأنّ ظلّاً تخلّل العتمة فمنحنا الرؤية، فعلينا أن ندرك أن العين بمفردها لا ترى.. فاذا مافقد العقل نوره وبوصلته.. فلن ترشدنا العين إلى الإتجاه السليم.

اعتمد الكاتب في القصة التي تبدو بسيطة.. على توضيح الرؤية والنور بشكل مغاير.. فالمبصر لا يرى بل ويتعثر في الأشياء وكأنه أعمى، وذلك لأنه استهان بخصومه ولم يُقدر مدى قوتهم، القوةالتي تخيل أنها سلبت منهم فقط لأنهم لا يبصرون

فركز الكاتب على الصراع القائم بين طرفين ليسوا بنفس القوة، فالخصوم كانوا أقوياء.. والقوة التي كانوا يمتلكونها هؤلاء الأشخاص، كانت تأتي من إضعاف الأخر، ومن سلبه لحواسه.. بالمراوغة والتضليل، حتى كاد أن يستسلم أن العين عضو شاذ في الجسد وعليه أن يتخلص منه ومن لعنته.

في النهاية ندرك أن رؤية العين لا يمكن أن تنحصر في إطار ضيق، وان العين مفتوحة على المدى البعيد وان الأعور لن يكون ملكًا في بلد العميان.. إلا إذا عرف العميان أولًا ما هو الإبصار.

نونيز كان متغطرساً حاول فرض القوة على أهل أرض سقط عليهم من السماء تواً لكن وبالرغم من رقة وأدب هؤلاء القوم الذين سقط بينهم إلا أنهم استطاعوا وعلى الرغم من أنهم لا يملكون ما يملك من نعمة الإبصار النعمة التى دعته يتخيل أنه " أن المبصر يصير ملكاً فى بلد العميان" استطاعوا على الرغم من تفوقه عليهم أنه يُخضعوه ويسيطروا عليه وبذلك تحول من متغطرس يرى قوم العميان دوناً عنه إلى واحد يتمنى أن يعيش وينصهر بينهم
هذا هو حال الطغاة إذا ما وجدوا الشدة والقوة فى القوم الذين يحكمونهم صاروا منهم أو هجروهم
هذه القصة درس قوى إذا ما تعلمته الشعوب " إما الحاكم يصير منهم وإما يرحل من حيث أتى "

قرأت عن هذه الرواية الشهيرة لأول مرة في مقال للراحل الرائع د احمد خالد توفيق رحمه الله . مقال اكثر من رائع ، احببت به الفكرة، واسلوب الرواية من قبل أن اقرأها
ثم وضعتها علي القائمة .. ومر الوقت ..
قرات الرواية امس في جلسة واحدة وانا طبعا اعرف الفكرة والنهاية مقدما من المقال
لذلك كان تركيزي علي اكتشاف الكاتب اكثر بالطبع من اكتشاف الرواية ، فالفضول هنا للأديب وليس للأحداث
والاديب بالتاكيد يستحق .. ولكني لن اقيمه بصورة كاملة من هذه الرواية .. لان عنصر الفضول للاحداث لم يكن موجودا ، لابد من قراءة ثانية له للحكم بشكل جيد

اما التقييم هنا فاللفكرة .. الفكرة رائعة .. وسليمة للغاية

هل جربت أن تكون المبصر الوحيد وسط مجتمع من فاقدي البصر؟ هل تخيلت مجتمع عاش طويلا دون أن يعي أهمية حاسة البصر بل وطور حواسه الاخرى بطريقة مذهلة تجعله يستغنى عنها تماماً؟ هذا ما واجهه بطل العمل بعد أن ألقت به المقادير وسط مجتمع منعزل كل أفراده من العميان
بالطبع الكتاب في الأصل قصة قصيرة، ربما من أشهر قصص هربرت جورج ويلز، ولذلك تعتمد على التكثيف وتسلسل الأحداث السريع نوعاً ما، وأن كانت النهاية متسرعة إلى حد ما ولم تعجبني

This is without reservation one of the best short stories I have ever read. There is so much going on beneath the surface and so many questions it raises. During an avalanche, Nunez falls into a valley that has been cut off from the rest of the world, and in which all the inhabitants have been blind for generations. The story has many themes working in it: what constitutes a handicap? Can a thing we think of as universally good be so disruptive that it is bad? Can the truth be stamped out simply because the masses agree to what is not true? And, most importantly, the dangers of a society that suppresses anyone or anything that is different.

In the interest of not revealing any of the plot for those who might not have read this, I am putting the remainder of my review in spoilers.

Nunez sees the blind as different when he first arrives and he wants to tell them about sight and introduce them to what he thinks they are missing, but for them this is utopia and they do not want any ideas voiced here that change that view, even if they are true.

They led a simple, laborious life, these people, with all the elements of virtue and happiness as these things can be understood by men. They toiled, but not oppressively; they had food and clothing sufficient for their needs; they had days and seasons of rest; they made much of music and singing, and there was love among them and little children.

Does sound ideal, doesn’t it.

So, the easiest thing is to disbelieve the outsider, never listen to what he says, and try to force him into being just like everyone else. The temptation to let them do that is very real, Nunez wants to fit and be accepted, and far from being seen as a superior being (which was his expectation), he is seen as an idiot, ranting and imaginative.

He began to realise that you cannot even fight happily with creatures who stand upon a different mental basis to yourself.

To fit, however, would require the loss of everything that makes Nunez an individual. He can be like them, but he must first surrender all knowledge and embrace a lie. Sadly, even If he loses his eyes, he can never be anything but inferior because they have acquired skills that make up for that loss, while he has not.

I wondered if Wells was trying to say that it was immoral to diminish the gifts God has bestowed on us, whatever they may be, and however difficult they might be to live with. While looking at nature, Nunez ponders:

It seemed to him that before this splendour he and this blind world in the valley, and his love and all, were no more than a pit of sin.

I loved the ending of this story and was disappointed to find that Wells had given in to pressure and changed the ending later. I think the original is, in fact, perfect. I will be thinking about this story for a long, long time. I believe it has extreme relevance for our own times. I often think we are the blind, and at others I think those who have glimpses of the truth might have the arrogance of Nunez and believe that means they should be king.

..فلا تظن يا مسكين أن بعض من نعم الله عليك تجعلك أفضل من غيرك فلا تفيق إلا على نجاحات الآخرين وخُذلانك..

‎دوستانِ گرانقدر، داستانِ زیبایِ این کتاب دربارهٔ سرزمینی سرسبز در نزدیکی اکوادور میباشد... سرزمینی که بر اثر ریزش کوه، راه های ورود و خروج آن بسته شده و همراه ساکنینش به فراموشی سپرده شد
‎با آنکه تمامی نیازهای ساکنین توسط منابع طبیعی برطرف میشد ولی به یکباره بینایی ساکنین کمتر و کمتر شد و بچه های متولد شده نابینا متولد میشدند
‎داستان در زمانی روایت میشود که ۱۴ نسل از اتفاق سپری شده و تمامی ساکنین نابینا هستند و حتی با واژهٔ بینایی نیز ناآشنا میباشند... ولی حواس دیگرِ آنها به شدت قوی است و میتوانند کوچکترین اشاره و حرکت را از دور تشخیص دهند و حس بویایی فوق العاده ای دارند
‎شخصیت اصلی داستان، مردی به نام «نونیز» است که در زمان راهنمایی عده ای کوهنورد، به صورت اتفاقی سقوط کرد و به درهٔ «سرزمین نابینایان» وارد شد
.‎و داستان در مورد این شخص و آشنایی او با این ساکنین عجیب و غریب و تلاش او برای رهایی و آزادی است

أُنهي قبل قليلٍ أداء صلاة الجمعة بالسلام كما يفعل كل المؤمنين في العالم، وعلى غير العادة في مسجدنا، يقوم أحدهم راجيا المساعدة المادية فهو محروم ومعوز... إلى آخر تلك التوسلات! الغريب في الأمر أنه كان يقول: أنا كفيف!-وقد كان كذلك حقا- التقطت أذني هذه الكلمة وارتسمت على شفتاي ابتسامة ساخرة؛ وكنت لأرد عليه ببلاهة: اذهب إلى بلد العميان، فهناك أنت الملك ونحن العبيد!
ابتعلت كلماتي وخرجت ! آه حركة الخروج من الباب معطلة، صاحب "المعروف" قد نسي جفنته عند الباب فعطلت الحركة..
شيء غريب يتكرر حصوله معي منذ زمن طويل، ولكنه حقا يُسعدني، ما إن اقرأ كتابا ما فإن عقلي لا شعوريا يلتقط جملة أو فكرة أو شخصية، فإذا بي أُعيد قراءتها في كتاب آخر، وأُشهادها في مقطع أو أُصادفها في طريقي، بمعنى أن أُصادفها في ثلاث مواضع على الأقل؛ وهذا دون ترتيب مسبق!!
في الوقت الذي كُنا نبكي فقيدنا أحمد خالد توفيق، قرأت مقالا له عن هذه القصة، ومن ثَم ابن خالي الذي لا علاقة له بالقراءة يُعيد نشر المقال، بالأمس لا أعلم أي شيطان أوحى لي بالدخول لموقع هنداوي للكتب، لأجد هذه القصة وأحملها عندي وأشرع في قراءتها صباحا!!
سيكون من الخبل وخسة الذوق ودناءة الخلق، أن أحرق أوراق هذه القصة الأخيرة، فهي أقصر من أن تُعطلك عن قراءتها، وأنا أكسل من أن ألخصها لك يا رفيق!
ولكن بربك قل لي؛ هل مسح بك أحدهم الأرض، لأنك تُبصر وترى العالم وتعشق مسحة الجمال التي رسمتها يد الخالق في كونه؟
ها؟! أمري غريب؟ ماذا تقول يا رجل؛ اقرأها اقرأها، وها إني أنتظر ردك هنا يا صاحبي.

هذه القصة القصيرة خلقت في داخلي إحساسا غريبا
مؤلما محزنا كئيبا
شعور مرعب والله، لا أجد سبيلا لوصفه، إلا أني أُحسه في داخلي والله

”Trecento miglia e più dal Chimborazo, un centinaio dalle nevi del Cotopaxi, tra le più selvagge solitudini delle Ande ecuadoriane, giace, separata dal mondo degli uomini, quella misteriosa vallata montana, il Paese dei Ciechi.”

Uno strano morbo affligge un piccolo gruppo di uomini che, fuggito dalle violenze dei colonizzatori, trova riparo in un'idilliaca valle delle Ande ecuadoriane.
Lo spirito primitivo che caratterizza questi uomini li porta ad attribuire il male ad una grave mancanza: la fuga frettolosa ha impedito loro di portare un sacerdote.
La colpa sta dunque nell'aver ”trascurato di erigere subito un tempio”.
Un volontario ridiscende dunque la gola alla disperata ricerca di un talismano che li salvi ma non farà più ritorno perchè di lì a poco un'eruzione vulcanica preclude per sempre la via isolando il Paese dei Ciechi che da allora esisterà solo nella dimensione del mito.

Da iniziale nebbia, di generazione in generazione, la vista scompare del tutto facendo calare definitivamente il buio sul piccolo popolo. Il fatto che non sia una cecità improvvisa dà loro modo di addestrarsi inventandosi nuove forme strategiche di sopravvivenza anche grazie ad un ambiente naturale assolutamente favorevole che sembra avere tutte le caratteristiche di un giardino dell'Eden.
Si succedono in questo modo ben cinque generazioni in cui la loro esistenza procede in modo pacifico. Pian piano i ricordi di come era il mondo della luce svaniscono: scompare la coscienza dell'esistenza di altri uomini e la stessa concetto e consapevolezza della vista.
I corpi stessi si modificano (Wells, specializzatosi in biologia era allievo di Thomas Henry Huxley, soprannominato il «mastino di Darwin» per aver contribuito a diffondere e difendere la teoria dell’evoluzione per selezione naturale):
”ed egli vide le loro palpebre chiuse e incavate, come se, sotto, i globi oculari fossero disseccati e svaniti.”

Così, come cinque generazioni prima qualcuno tra loro era partito improvvisamente un giorno qualcuno arriva:
”Accadde allora che un uomo venne nella comunità dal mondo esterno. E questa è la storia di quell’uomo.(...) Era un montanaro della regione di Quito, un uomo che era sceso fino al mare e aveva visto il mondo, un lettore di libri in un suo modo originale, un uomo acuto e intraprendente...”
Il suo nome è Nuñez e questa è la sua storia nel Paese dei Ciechi.


Il racconto conobbe due versioni (1904/1939) che mutarono la sostanza del contenuto essendo con due finali differenti.
Ad una prima narrazione complessivamente ottimistica ne segue una palesemente sfiduciata. Quest'ultima è, di fatti, la versione rivista alla soglia del secondo conflitto mondiale e corrisponde evidentemente ad una mancanza di speranza positiva.
La forza preziosa di questo breve testo sta nell'aver intrecciato eventi verosimili e fantastici dove il tema principe è quello della conoscenza.
Un racconto, tuttavia, che non offre un'univoca chiave di lettura ma bensì si apre a ventaglio su varie possibili interpretazioni.
Il topos della vista è ovviamente un punto cardinale di questa lettura a più livelli.

Beati monoculi in terra caecorum, ossia “ nella terra dei ciechi chi è orbo è re”.
Con questo detto Nuñez si avvicina a quella strana gente dimostrando l'arroganza propria del colonizzatore che si sente unico detentore di verità. Ma il Popolo Cieco stesso si chiude in una presunzione che non accetta null'altro che la propria conoscenza. In questo senso la narrazione punta il dito contro quel relativismo culturale che impedisce la reciproca comprensione ed accettazione preferendo rimanere arroccati alle proprie idee.
«Niente è assoluto!» sembra gridare questa storia invitando ad aprire gli occhi della mente e a cercare la varietà di significati che la storia propone.

”Pedro andò avanti e prese Nuñez per mano per condurlo alle case.
Nuñez ritrasse la mano. «Io vedo» disse.
«Vedo?» disse Correa.
«Sì, io vedo» disse Nuñez volgendosi a lui, e inciampò nel secchio di Pedro.
«I suoi sensi sono ancora imperfetti» disse il terzo cieco. «Inciampa, e dice parole senza senso. Conducilo per mano».
«Come volete» disse Nuñez, e si lasciò guidare, ridendo.
Sembrava che costoro nulla sapessero della vista.
Bene, a tempo debito li avrebbe istruiti.”

“En el país de los ciegos, el tuerto es rey”

H.G. Wells es uno de esos escritores que puede tomar algo que todos tomamos por cierto, como este refrán, y demostrar lo equivocados que estamos.

Este es un libro que va de lo que es ser minoría, Núñez, el protagonista, cae en el país de los ciegos y, creyéndose superior, se topa con que el verdadero poder y grandeza está en la pertenencia no en la diferencia.

En muchas ocasiones me he encontrado con personas que hablan de la reivindicación de las minorías que hace este libro, con lo cual difiero grandemente, aquí no es que se muestre que las minorías lo pueden todo (que lo pueden) sino que el mundo se adecúa a lo que es predominante, en el país de los ciegos ser invidente es la norma, por lo que cada aspecto de su vida y entorno está perfectamente adaptado a las condiciones de sus habitantes, mientras que Núñez, que como persona vidente representa a una minoría, no sólo no puede aprovechar su visión, dado que nada ha sido hecho para ser utilizado mientras se ve, sino que su condición diferente lo ha llevado a ser considerado un loco: al final del día él es diferente y el país de los ciegos no está hecho para él. Entonces, ¿Qué es lo que trata de mostrar el país de los ciegos? Sencillo: que no importa lo hábil que seas, sí el mundo en el que vives no fue hecho pensando en tus condiciones particulares, estas subiendo una colina por el camino difícil.

A pesar de que la historia es interesante, y las peripecias de Núñez nos llevan de detestarlo a compadecerlo, el verdadero valor de la misma radica en que nos hace cuestionarnos nuestra propia naturaleza ¿Por qué creemos que tenemos todas las ventajas? ¿Cómo reaccionar ante un cambio total en nuestro mundo? ¿Realmente somos una raza tan perfecta como nos creemos? Al final, el mensaje de Wells lo dice fuerte y claro, el problema no es tener desventajas, el problema es ser diferente y debes cuestionarte que es lo que estas dispuesto a hacer para pertenecer.

Esta es una historia poderosa ,con un fuerte mensaje que se presta a ser interpretado constantemente, además es ideal para ser leída en diversas ocasiones, en mi opinión está 100% recomendada.

إن تميّزك في مكان لا يعنيه هذا التميّز (كما حال المبصر في بلد العميان) سيعود عليك سلباً! ولذلك سوف تفكّر مليّاً هل أن الاختلاف هو نعمة للشخص أم نقمة عليه؟ هل ستبرز اختلافك للآخرين أم ستخفيه!

الحقيقة هي أنه يجب أن نستفيد من هذا الفرق بشكل ذكيّ وليس بشكل عشوائي وغير مدروس كما فعل بطل القصة نونيز حيث أصبح أدنى مرتبة منهم على الرغم من اختلافه المتميّز عنهم.

Science fiction with more purpose than just entertain. H. G. Wells surprised me a lot with The War of the Worlds early this year, and I was in the mood for something short and great. The Country of the Blind is very good, it deals with intelectual diferences due to diferent habilities, in this case, using the sight as example. An interesting read, perfect after a complicated book or while having a hard time at school or work.


Mi nuevo trabajo me tiene full, gente. Pero espero este mes de diciembre acostumbrarme y arrancar el 2016 con fuerza. Ahora si, la reseña :)

Linda novela corta, y mucho mejor con las ilustraciones que son sencillas pero adecuadas y enriquecedoras a la historia.

Me gusta leer algo que sea bueno y entretenido. Que te haga feliz por el placer de serlo simplemente. Y la verdad la ciencia ficción puede llegar a ser muy divertida, toda una experiencia. Este año me aventure con otro tipo de ciencia ficción, Asimov y H. G. Wells, y no quede decepcionada para nada.

Wells escribe para criticar algo en especifico en la sociedad. Y lo acomoda para que se explique de forma inteligente. Y requiere que el lector entre en la novela sabiendo cosas de antemano. No son lecturas cómodas, no es para pasar el rato. Si hay libros que se hicieron para leerse con cuidado, los de Wells deben estar en esa lista.

Por asares del destino una población queda encerrada del resto del mundo, y van desarrollando una ceguera que con el tiempo les resultara normal. Un día Nuñez llega a la población conocida por leyendas urbanas como El País de los Ciegos. Ahí intentara sobresalir del montón gracias a su diferencia mas notoria, la vista. Que para el, lo convierte en algo superior y mejor.

Pero...En el país de los ciegos... ¿el tuerto es el rey?

لطالما تردد علي مسامعنا المثل القائل "في البلد العميان يصبح الأعور ملكًا" وبناء عليه يعتقد كامل الصر أنه نصف إله وسط أي مجتمع أعمي. يطيح هربرت ويلز في رائعته "بلد العميان" بهذا الاعتقاد، فلا معني لهذا الاعتقاد ما لم يكن للبصر نفسه معني في المجتمع. ربما تحمل القصة عدة تأويلات فلسفية أخري لكن هذا المعني كان الأقرب لقلبي.

أن تكون مبصر في بلد العميان قد يكون بصرك جريمة وخطيئة بل ومرض يجب التخلص منه
ابصارك في بلد العميان قد يجعلك لوهلة تصدق أنك الشاذ وأن الطبيعي هو أن تكون أعمى وتتبع اسلوب حياتهم وطريقتهم والتخلي عن بصرك أو على الأقل ايهامهم أنك تخليت أو تستطيع التخلي عنه
لكن كم ستصمد في التمثيل بأنك تخليت عن بصرك لتستطيع العيش بينهم ... هل الى اللحظة التي يرون هم فيها أنه لابد من خلع عينك كي لا تستخدمها مجددا... ومهما حاولت اقناعهم أنك صرت منهم وأنك لن تستخدم عينيك فلن يرضوا الا ان نزعوها بأيديهم
هكذا هو الواقع عميان يرون أن أصحاب البصر ما هم الا تافهين وأغبياء ...يجب التخلص منهم أو من بصرهم

55. sayfadaki “Bilimi bahşedene şükürler olsun!” cümlesi hikayenin akışı içerisinde beni çok şaşırttı, bir anlamda da şok etkisi yarattı. Doğa karşısında cahilliğimizin ve acizliğimizin eşsiz bir ifadesi. Körler ülkesinde, bir nevi Platon’un mağarasında yaşayan birisi tarafından söylenen bir cümle bu. Nunez’in yaşadıkları da tam böyle bir şey. Okurken; Nunez’in, herkesin mutlu ve sorunsuz bir yaşam sürdüğü Körler Ülkesi’ne geldiğinde ilk düşündüğü şeyi yapmamasını istedim; görmeyi ve görünenin güzelliğini anlatmasını. Körler Ülkesi bir ütopyadır. Herkes eşit, huzurlu ve yeterli yaşam koşullarına sahiptir. Ancak ülkede, farklı düşüncelere kapalı, körlerden oluşan bir topluluk yaşamaktadır ve bu durum da Nunez için bir distopya hali oluşturacaktır.

Son sayfadan sonra kitap bitmedi. Yanıtını bildiğimiz, bilmediğimiz, bildiğimiz halde söyleyemediğimiz sorular kafamda dönüp durdu.

Bilim dediğimiz şey nedir, ne için ve nereye kadar mutlak gereklidir?

Mutlu olmak için yeter ölçü nedir?

Farklılıklarımız ve avantajlarımız, topluluklar içerisinde her zaman güç verir mi, yoksa önemli olan uyum ve iletişim başarısı mıdır?

Kitabın finali de hiç beklemediğim şekilde gerçekleşti.

Kısa bir hikaye ama etkili ve güçlü bir anlatı. Resimleri de çok beğendim.

عندما تكون المبصر الوحيد في أرض العميان، فإنك تصبح متهما بالجنون والتهور وتصبح عيناك مصدرا للوبال ويصبح التخلص منهما أمرا محتوما من أجل البقاء والحياة مع العميان

كم من العلماء والمفكرين والفلاسفة تعرضوا للإضطهاد أو حُكم عليهم بالإعدام لأن أقوالهم وأفعالهم لم تتوافق مع الفكر العام

In the country of the blind, the one-eyed man is king. Or in this case, he is more or less the slave. A seeing traveler ends up in the Valley of the Blind, where people have been blind for so long that they don’t even understand the concept of seeing.

A good short story. The plot is a typical adventure tale, a traveler who finds a lost city, but it’s still interesting. One aspect of this felt really modern, basically that one can read it as an comment on living inside ones own bubble, and being unable to see the world through other peoples eyes.

Mind you, I read the the original story. H. G. Wells rewrote it a bit a few years later, and made it longer. I haven’t read that one, so I can’t say if I would have the same reaction to that version.
