After having read Amelia's Story, a book that I loved, I couldn't wait to read the sequel. I have to say it is worth the waiting. I have read this lovely book in just 5 hours. I simply couldn't put it down, as simple as that. While reading it you feel as if you are sitting down with the author, having a nice chat while enjoying a nice cup of tea. The style is so down-to-earth and straightforward that you feel as if the author is just telling you about her life in a friendly, warm, and so honest way. Read this book, really, it is like talking to a friend.

Amelia found herself homeless and almost penniless, so she had to make a big decision. Going back to her mother's house leads her to more decisions. Amelia is a young woman with a plan for the future. Follow her in her travel to become the independent woman she wants to be, and feel all the struggles she goes through to get her purposes in life. A book that won't leave you indifferent.

Very easy to follow and read, it is the perfect read for every occasion. Beautifully written, the story evolves just effortlessly, flowing quite easily. Feel for Amelia, smile with her, cry with her, and be her companion in the difficult path to happiness.

Gave up at 65% of the way through. While the story itself is somewhat inspiring and compelling reading, the truly awful editing just became too annoying for me to read. Any editor - never mind a good one - ought to know the difference between to and too, cubicle and cubical, when to use an apostrophe and what ought, or in this case what ought not, to be capitalised.

Very disappointing, would have scored a lot higher and no doubt have been worth finishing with a proper professional eye. I'd be asking for my money back from the editing company.

OK, what did I think? If you read Amelia's Story, you have to go on and read this one to see how Amelia fares. And it is an inspirational story of an admirable woman. For that, she deserves 4 stars at least. The writing itself, however, would not merit 4 stars, probably closer to 2. So, I'll compromise and give the book 3 stars.

One thing to note for all you Goodreads members: She overcame many of her horrendous problems -- why? -- because she was a READER! The stories she read gave her a vision of what life could be beyond the 4 gray walls that were her home(s).

I read Amelia's Story in record time as I was totally absorbed by it. I couldn't wait to read this next book, Amelia's Destiny. D G Torrens writes with such openness and honesty that it is impossible not to be pulled in and want to hear her whole story. Once again I had to read it through with little breaks. It is compelling because you feel the desperation for this young girl, and then young woman, to succeed in life. There are moments when you feel excited for the new things Amelia is experiencing then moments when you feel deeply saddened that life can still be harsh for this tenacious young woman. This story made me hug my children tightly and, once again, wonder at a world, and its people, that can allow such awful things to happen to children. Amelia's determination proves that where there's a will there's a way; to never give up on your dreams. I highly recommend this book to everyone; some stories should be read.

This is the continuation of Amelia's story. This book focuses primarily on her life after the foster care system. Her diligence is to be commended and in the end Amelia triumphs! She meets her goals and keeps her promises. She does not reach this destination without tremendous loss, ongoing struggles with her mentally ill mother, and disappointment in multiple failed relationships. This story, I found I could not put it down. It drew me in and with each tiny step forward in her journey Amelia began to exhibit how the fires or tibulation had refined her and brought her to the other side a new and stronger woman. In the end when she meets her husband Lucas and they start their family together she has completely squashed the old motto of "the apple does not fall too far from the tree". Amelia is proof that you do not have to repeat the mistakes of your parents, you can choose to learn from them and rise above.

I have only read this story, not the first book. I feel that the author writes and expresses herself well enough that I was not lost or confused. Amelias story is inspiring as well as amazing. She has been on quite an impressive journey and stayed true to herself the entire time. There were hard, painful times but she pulled and pushed herself through them. This book proves that you control your destiny and can can manage the outcomes of certain events.
I loved reading her words and her writing style. She writes simply enough for everyone to grasp and understand. The author is to the point and factual. This is a great read and I would highly recommend it to anyone who feels they've hit rock bottom and can't get up. This book proves you can! Kudos D G Torrens!

This is actually better than the first book, which I gave 3 stars. It's a fast-paced adventure through Amelia's late teen and adult life. Her traumatic childhood was the subject of the first book, "Amelia's Story". I have to admire the author's work ethic and determination and the encouragement she received from some key people along the way. She took stock of what she had - seemingly natural beauty and good social skills to make something of herself, refusing to use her childhood an excuse. Any parent would be proud of her - except her own wicked mother.

This book gets inside your head, so be ready. WOW!

Great continuation to Amelia's life.

Was glad to see how Amelia went with life on her own. She was so fortunate to meet people who willingly let her rent a room while she worked towards her dream of owning her own home..several jobs a a few moves but she found it and truly had something that was hers. The fact that her mother would still belittle her and try to keep her apart from her brother was cruel and needless punishment. In the end, through several relationships, and changes in her life, she did finally connect with not only her beloved brother, but her long gone father came into her life. He wasn't meant to stay, but he did lead her to new sisters and her grandparents, which gave her great joy. I hope her life with her daughter and "he's family gives her the family she had always prayed for.

I felt this book was a bit narcissistic and poorly written. It read her first book, and fell in love with the child, but I don't like the adult at all. This story didn't flow well, either. I really didn't care that she was crazy about clothes and shoes. I couldn't understand why, if she cared so much about Jake and her sisters, that she didn't spend more time trying to find them. Really? I wouldn't have depended on my "mother" to get messages to Jake. Nope, all about her. She seriously needs a good therapist. And a better editor.

Sequel well worth the read

I so enjoyed Amelia's Story that I needed to know how it turned out. So I purchased Amelia's Destiny and I was not disappointed. Both books are easy to read and well written. The child first, always!

A great second part to Amelia's Story. Inspirational story on how children raised in "the system" do not always become just a statistic.

A story of true grit and determination.

Every child should feel loved and protected by their own mother. But sadly, many children don't, as was the case with the books heroine, Amelia.
As a little girl she was abused and often terrorised by her hateful mother. As a result Amelia ended up in the care system, where she suffered the heartbreak of losing touch with her siblings, due to the enforced separation from those who thought they knew best.
This second novel begins when Amelia is seventeen. All alone in the world, she returns to her mother's house hoping for a reconciliation, and to be able to form some kind of relationship with her. But her mother lets her down time and time again.
We then follow Amelia's life as she begins to find herself while battling to become a strong, independent, and capable woman.
This is such a powerful story of survival and a steely determination to succeed. Heartbreaking in parts, but truly inspiring.
Highest recommendations!

Amelia’s Destiny is book 2 of her story ... adult life.
After reading the first book I was after more ... and that I got ...
To see how (so far) her life has/is evolving from that mistreated, physically and mentally abused child by someone who is suppose to love you unconditionally.
Determination ... has been what she has shown ... make something of her life ... Yes .. very much so!
To be in a institution does not mean your life is over ... that Amelia has proven by studying had ... get qualifacations to do even better ... .. Now her daughter is born ... story to continue in book 3 which I have just started ... looking forward to what is happening next!
Great true story that is a horrendous look at her life by her unloving mother!

Having read and enjoyed Amelia’s Story: A Lost Childhood, I was keen to read the next book in the series - Amelia’s Destiny: Finding My Way. I was not disappointed, for, like the first novel, this story is written from the heart and is full of raw emotion. It’s a heartbreaking tale of a young girl, scarred by a tragic life of abuse, trying to make her way in a world where she has no one to turn to. However, it’s also an uplifting story, for faced with seemingly unsurmountable obstacles, Amelia finds a way to overcome them and become a happy and confident young woman. The fact that the story is true makes it all the more impactful, and I read it in two sittings. The book was written for the author’s daughter, and I am sure one day, that little girl will be so proud of her brave mother.

A young courageous woman

There are no words to describe the emotions that swept through as I read this and the first book. My heart broke with each situation Amelia found herself in. It takes a very special person with strength and determination to not allow everything that Amelia gone through to shape her future. Courageous.
Amelia I truly admire you ❤️

A Good Read

I really enjoyed the first book about Amelia, she endured and over came so many harsh obstacles in her young life. It was good to read the second book about realizing her dreams and finally finding family who loved her. It was a bit disappointing though as this story was not as riveting as the first, but that’s a good thing for the author.

The writing isn't the best, there are typos in the text & she often repeats herself as if she wrote chapters out of order. BUT, the story itself drew me in & intrigued me. Rating more based on story line than writing.

Very honest look into her past. Setting goals and overcoming obstacles encourages one to realize determination wins.
Sad that she was never able to locate her sisters.

At seventeen, Amelia leaves the state-care-system. She starts her first job in ladies fashion and models occasionally. Amelia continues journaling and writing poems as she did in the state homes. She is a determined, driven adolescent who has a lifetime of dreams to realize. Highly recommend.
