“Imagine being a 19 year old adolescent, who is searching for his parents who seem never to have
existed, according to local police, state police, FBI, private investigators." How would that make you feel
and what would you do to survive?

Let Jerome Gilden introduce you to Jerry Daniels (19 years old), who used to think he was a normal high
school guy and knows he is not crazy, despite other people around him think he is a nut-job who created
a set of 'imaginary parents.

"Yesterday, I graduated from high school; at least I think it was yesterday. I've been losing track of time
lately. To tell you the truth, and I swear this is the truth, as crazy as it sounds ... yesterday I went to the
future and returned, and I'm really scared by what I've learned."

"I'm no normal teen. I'm the last of the Royalty among a secret race of super-powered humans who are
fighting among themselves. War is inevitable. It will affect everyone, even people who don't know there
is a war going on ... it will affect you!

"People either want to use me or kill me. For now I'm a Tracer, a guardian of time. My enemies know
who I am and where to find me. 'The Dead' are coming, 'la morte', or Morters as they call themselves.
They are former Tracers who sacrificed their immortality and the last of their humanity to gain
inexplicable powers. They have chosen death as their destiny. They plan to take everything with them."

"Tomorrow ... 'The Dead' and I meet. Tomorrow ... the winner of this war may be decided by what we
do, what I do, in our first encounter.

Tomorrow... I will be tested. Tomorrow... I fight for our existence ... and yours."

Tracers is good fun, that’s the underlining feeling I got from reading it. At its premise is Youth Fiction akin to The Lorien Legacies, Hunger Games and even to a lesser extent, Star Wars with the Jedi/Padawan relationship. The characters to that end are nothing new in terms of concept and perhaps lack originality. But that’s the only real gripe with this book.
At the end of the day, everything has been done before and whatever a writer writes will in some way be reminiscent of another work. That aside, it’s up to the writer to deliver in their own way and in Tracers, author Jerome Gilden succeeds in enticing the reader to read on, and to not put the book back on the shelf. The pace and delivery of the action is good, the crispness and clarity of the writing does not hinder the readers flow of the story and most importantly, the entertainment factor is high.
Just on the negative side, but in no way detrimental to the read; is the occasional spelling mistake or more so a completely wrong word used in mid sentence. You will notice this yourself upon reading but it won’t confuse you. Nevertheless, it should be noted as part of an accurate review. This along with the aforementioned similarities with other books deters it from been a five star read. It is perhaps too much like I Am Number Four for some people to pick it up.
That did not stop me reading it but felt it important to point out for review readers. For me, I’m all for sci-fi, particularly those that allow the underdog to rise from the ashes and kick-ass!! Tracers uses this concept that we can all identify with and relate to the character. Above all, it is as previously stated, good fun and likeable.

Imagine being a normal average teenager in high school, until one day you come home from school to find your home ransacked and your adoptive parents missing without a trace. This situation takes the phrase "without a trace" to new extremes as there aren't even any records left to show that his parents ever even existed. Since he was 17, he was allowed to live on his own without guardians. He made it through high school graduation without any further bizarre incidents. Until suddenly he finds himself in the future with no idea of how he got there. He learns that not only is he descended from a race of super-beings but he is of Royal blood and is a very powerful Tracer.

A very interesting concept, to be able to trace through your own timeline either backwards or forwards. While the theory in this book is that the beginning and end of life is pre-ordained and the past can be changed without any time ripples or similar consequences, When Jerry attempts to change an incident in his past it proves to have unforeseen circumstances arise from his meddling.

A promising introduction to new author Jerome Gilden and his Timeline Series, I would recommend Tracers to science fiction fans for an entertaining weekend read.

At first, I was not sure what to expect of this book as I just could not stay focussed. My focus was actually woken up by a sensational action scene right at the beginning of the story. That kept me focus for the rest of the book, as I had become curious about the what’s, who’s and everything else.

This was a new author for me, and with many new authors, it is hit and miss. Fortunately, this book “Tracers” was written in a fabulous way, with all-round developed personalities, and vividly described surroundings. Therefore, I believe this author really knows what he was doing: writing a book that will stick to the charts instead of producing a fast tale for the kindle because it might sell.

This is an original story with a fantastic story line, which would be a good read for people who are up to reading a story that is quite diverse and interestingly different from mainstream fiction that is available today. Be ready for some serious twists and turns that might make your mind spin.
