Gay erotic romance. Stephen Dominick is a sophisticated, world-famous multi-millionaire. Gabriel Mason is a young, naive college student. When Dom takes Gabriel under his wing, the two men rapidly form a close friendship. But when Dom decides he wants more than mere friendship, will Gabriel be able to say no? Or will he be the one who winds up begging for more?
Length: Novella (11,500 words). This is a serial romance.
Meg Harris is a busy mom who spends her spare moments dreaming up worlds a little sexier than the one in which she drives kids around, runs to the grocery store, does endless loads of laundry, and scrubs the kitchen floor. Her chosen profession involves a great deal of time dedicated to imagining sweaty, gorgeous men in the throes of passion, as well as long hours spent poring over pictures of beautiful male chests in the pursuit of the perfect cover. It's a tough job, but she's willing to bear the hardships... all for her readers, of course!
I started by reading the prequel to this, Angelic, which gives you a bit of the set up to this story. Gabriel is an extremely sheltered, innocent country boy who somehow ends up interning for Dom's company. Dom, the owner of the company, and multi-billionaire playboy, immediately sets his sights on Gabriel. After finding out Gabriel has a girlfriend he is in love with, Dom decides they could only be friends.
Fast forward to Supplicant. Dom and Gabriel have somehow become best friends. Gabriel doesn't so much as lightly cuss, let alone have any type of sexual experience. Dom comes across as a manipulative bastard with seemingly few redeeming friend qualities. I'm really not sure what Gabriel is getting out of their friendship, but we don't see any of that. So the story moves on, and Dom has manipulated Gabriel in an attempt to sabotage Gabriel and his girlfriend's relationship. Gabriel tries to call Dom out on this, but Dom turns the tables and gets Dom worked up and wanting him. Then, Dom turns up the bastardo level a notch and pushes Gabriel away. That's the basic gist here.
The scenes where Dom and Gabriel are "together" are pretty hot and steamy, but they are ruined almost completely by Dom's behavior afterwards. I'm having a very difficult time seeing these two together or even why I want them to. Hope things turn around a bit in the next installment.
Role playing (and BDSM, which is not present stricto sensu in this first part but is looming nonetheless) beyond the walls of the bedroom has little or no place for me in the real life of balanced, sane people. Even less is the place it should have in romance; it can have some in erotica IF the author is skilled and hones characterization fastidiously, pacing the relationship with utter attention to detail.
It does not happen here. Had the author restricted herself to the sex scenes, which are nothing special but not entirely bad, she could have got away with this faulty short story, the first episode of a serial. Unfortunately she went for the whole package and we have an unplausible, strained plot based on two cardboard characters that are hardly believable in general and should have no place in a romance. Gabriel is not just young and naive, he is an oaf with no backbone and Dom is just a manipulative, mean son of a *** taking advantage of him. How are these two supposed to lead a romantic fantasy escapes me but I would not stomach them even in down and dirty porn.
That said, that writing is nothing special and the POVs of the story clumsily managed is hardly relevant and only add to the general disappointment.
So, apparently this one is fairly forgettable (seeing as how I’m trying to come up with a review after the fact and scratching my head to honestly come up with any recollection of the story). Sad, but true, so I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt and assume it was at least okay.
This is a teeny, tiny book that is really a chapter of a longer story. If you start this series, be prepared to purchase all the mini books because none of the stories stand alone (a pet peeve for me) and in my opinion, once you purchase all the books you are paying too much for the word count and quality of the story. I read all 5 books in a morning whilst looking after 7 kids and cleaning the house...that's how short these books are!
This story is hard to rate because the two MCs are so very difficult to like. They are both spoilt, nasty little shits and I really don't think they deserve a HEA...to be honest, they both need to be sent into time out and soundly spanked for their revolting behaviour. Added to that, these books are basically porn...over 80% of the word count is sex, not love-making, sex. Sex fueled by anger and angst and pain and guilt and self-loathing.
If you are looking for porn without romance cluttering up the story AND have money to burn, then read this series...it's not bad but I won't count it among my favourites...I will re-read the series when the 6th (and hopefully final) book comes out in February 2013 but after that I doubt I will revisit them.
I didn't like the Dom from this story. In Angelic and Innocent, Dom had real feelings for Gabriel and was struggling to be a good friend. In this story Dom is a bastard that seems to be using and almost abusing Gabriel all the time. I get the idea of him being the dominant one and Gabriel the submissive one, but this just felt wrong... If I was Gabriel I would have broken at some point from the pain of the mix emotions and the horrible way Dom was treating him. I hope it gets better in the next one (although I highly doubt it giving the title) because one thing is playing with control and another is abusing the power one person has over the other. This just wasn't the Dom I liked so much in the first two stories.
I can't decide if I'm going to buy the next installment of this series. So far the stories have been free, I'm not sure I care enough about the characters to pay to see what happens next.
Gabriel needs to grow a spine, Dom needs to decide which personality to be. During the intervals between the sex Dom appears to care about, even have deep feelings for Gabriel, however the way he treats Gabriel after any intimacy is awful.
2.5 stars I want to hate it. I really do. But I was hooked. Gabriel needs to grow a pair, he needs to decide what he wants. Or he could just go and hide. And I really want to punch Dom, I think he has feelings for Gabriel, but wants to keep him at arms length. I think I need the next one, hoping it isn't too expensive !
Well, I kind of liked the D/s dynamic between the two men, but Dom seems a bit too pushy with Gabriel considering this is G's first physical relationship (and he doesn't think he's gay and he has a girlfriend). There is no easing into the D/s roles, they just smack you upside the head.
i read this book first, and was just kinda lost at y dom was actimg the way he was. i was like he is a dick but kinda hot.... read angelic and dom made sense.
First book in the m/m series about a college student who is seduced by an older man who is also his best friend and mentor. The sex scenes are very vivid and very sexy.
