Stone's life is one of ordered control. As a child he was experimented on and turned into something more than human. Now the leader of The Brotherhood, an elite group of soldier assassins, he is given the task of eradicating the man who possibly holds the key to his freedom. When Dr Wesley Folcomb finds himself targeted by the government group that killed his father, he is forced to seek safety from the very assassin sent to eliminate him. On the run for their lives, Wesley and Stone grow close but with such different pasts, can they find love? Or will the danger hunting them cause their relationship to crumble before it has a chance to become as solid as stone?
Amylea Lyn is a little odd, a lot weird, and just plain strange. At least that's what everyone tells her. She lives in Nevada, filling her laptop with too many stories to count and trying to ignore the yells of her football-obsessed siblings in the background. Most days, Amylea can be found sitting in her favorite chair after work, bugging those around her for fun tidbits to make her stories more interesting. When she's not writing, Amylea spends her time daydreaming her fantasies while talking to herself without realizing it, experimenting with different baked dishes that she force feeds her brothers, and plotting ways to get back at her psychotic cat. All in all, she likes to think of herself as pretty normal... even if it's only by her own standards.
This is a great book for everyone who believes in conspiracies – and anyone who has ever wondered how they work, here's one to sink your teeth into and see how you like it. My reaction: I got scared. Yes, some of the assumptions Amylea Lyn makes are pretty out there, but some of them are realistic enough they just may be true… This results in a tantalizing mix that had me fascinated and turning the pages as fast as possible.
Wesley is a super-intelligent, idealistic scientist with a mission: he wants to solve world hunger. But when his father's past catches up with him, he switches gears and gets fully engaged in helping Stone and his 'brothers' work on gaining freedom from being used as assassins by an unscrupulous government-connected agency. Wesley thinks he is a coward – but nothing could be less true! He shows amazing dedication and determination to help these guys. His love for Stone is sudden and overwhelming – but, again, he takes it all in stride.
Stone has been experimented on as a child, funded by the government interested in producing super-soldiers. The formula developed by Wesley's father has not only given him some super-human abilities, it has also isolated him from people. He hasn’t exactly had a normal life, has never had any close friends except the other men he grew up with, who have suffered just as much as he has. He doesn't expect to fall for the guy he is supposed to kill, but as soon as he figures out who Wesley is, and sees the scientist's courage and willingness to help, he falls in love with dizzying speed. His road to healing the emotional damage inflicted on him will be a long one, but Wesley's acceptance gives him hope.
If you like action/adventures with a bit of bite, if you're interested in conspiracy theories involving human experiments, and if you like reading about tough, emotionally wounded men uncovering their emotional side while fighting for survival, you will probably like this book.

This is a great start in a new series by Amylea Lyn. It centers around six men who were taken from orphanages as children by The Company and subjected to a formula created by Dr. Steven Folcolmb that turns them into something more than human. The younger the healthy test subject is, the better the result. These men have been turned into highly functional killing machines and virtual slaves of The Company. They have never known love except the bond that they have for each other. They haven't even been given names. Dr. Stephen Folcolmb created this formula in an attempt to cure his wife's MS and when he finds out that it is being used to genetically alter children he blows up his lab, effectively destroying all of the formula and killing himself in the process.
Twenty years later, Agent Number One, or Stone as he has been named by his brothers, is sent to detain and deliver Dr Wesley Folcolmb, the son of Dr Stephen Folcolmb, to They Company. Wesley has just returned home from the Amazon upon being notified of the death of his mother. He has been searching for new plant species to splice with existing in order to end world hunger. While packing up his mother's belongings, he comes across a box that has all of his father's notes on the formula his father was working on. Stone goes to the target's house and finds a beautiful grief stricken man and it doesn't take long before he decides to protect Wesley at all costs. He goes on the run with Wesley and lets his brothers know that the day that they have been preparing for has finally come. It was time for them all to defect from The Company. Their hope is that Wesley can recreate the formula and that their genetic mutations can be reversed so that they can be normal men.
The story is interesting and fast paced. The writing is solid and not only are the main character's wonderful to get to know, we also get an introduction to the other brothers. They are all different in ethnicity, each has their own strengths and they are all devoted to each other. The rest of this story is centered more on the romance between Stone and Wesley and fending off attempts on their lives. Both men are stunted in their communication skills and it did make me want to smack them a couple of times but the romance was very nice and the sex was hot. There is not a lot of progression as far as the formula or bringing down The Company but I am sure we will see more of that in the coming sequels. My only niggle about this story is that when one of the 'bad men' gets stabbed in the leg, it was said that his carotid artery had been cut. The carotid arteries are in the neck and the femoral arteries are in the legs. It was a minor mistake but it caught my attention. Otherwise, I highly recommend this story and I am looking forward to reading the sequels on the brothers.
4.5 stars! I loved this book. 6 genetically altered orphans to be made into super soldiers by a formula which Wesley's father made to originally cure multiple schlerosis. When Stone, their leader, was sent to retrieve Wesley to recreate the formula Stone decides to defect with his six 'Brothers' and Wesley. Their goal is to keep Wesley safe so the government agency can no longer take orphans and genetically alter and torture them. Of course Wesley and Stone fall in love and that in itself was pretty darn cute!
I really liked this story, Stone and Wesley make a great pair. I like that although Wesley is the brianiac he does manage to work it to his advantage and hold his own when he really needed to. And the secondary charcters are great, can't wait for Blade and Fury's stories.
Great premise, but awkward execution. A lot of melodramatic over reacting, both in dialogue and thought... "You are my everything now." Many of the descriptions of people and actions were likewise cringeworthy.
I liked the plot, but after a good beginning it got more and more mushy. There was just too much blushing, whimpering, sticking-out-the-tongue and too much "baby", "little lover" and "smaller man". When I read m/m romance I want men acting like men.
I loved this story of Stone and Wesley. I think Ms. Lyn captured the strong warrior/wounded child character some of us (ME) just melt over. I don't know how anyone could read this book and not do what I did and click as fast as I could to Ms. Lyn's webpage to find out when the next book was coming. These warriors of the Brotherhood stole my heart from the beginning. I can't wait to see what is going to happen next in Blade's book, I am sure I will love it as much as I love Stone and Wesley's story. I have long been a fan of Ms. Lyn's books and this is just another WIN as far as I am concerned. I don't write reviews with spoilers or regurgitate the blurb (you can read that yourself). I just want to let everyone know how much I loved the story. The story progresses from some unfortunate misunderstandings between Stone and Wesley to the point where they can't live without one another. Wesley finds his inner strength and realizes family is not always something you are born into. I hope you give this book a try and you come to love these guys like I do.
I am fast becoming a real fan of this author. Her works are not perfect and, in general, I'm not even a fan of the whole "little man" thing where there is one huge hulking muscle bound alpha male and one small, little, nerdy male. However she really makes it work. This is somewhat like a MM version of Laurann Dohner's New Species series or Lora Leigh and her Breeds. Not exactly the same but with enough common thematic elements to make it interesting. The men in here are not hybrid animal - just enhanced humans (which means they are really "not" quite all human in some ways). I was absolutely engaged in this one the whole way and really enjoyed it. I want the next story!!!
This isn’t working for me. I rarely DNF a book but I could tell early on that the execution wasn’t up to the very interesting premise. So many plot holes, edit errors, and irritating repetitions (how many times do I have to be reminded that Wesley is the ‘smaller man/small man’ etc?) There wasn’t enough tension or mystery to keep my interest, unfortunately. No rating.
This story was solidly plotted. I liked all the brothers. Sure here we have a basic romance in middle of military secret group of man. The main red storyline, which circles around the secret government experiments on humans and children's , is good. I liked it, sure it was a bit bland, but a satisfying story.
The premise was very interesting. I liked the set up for more books, but dear god the dialogue got way too cheesy for me. I coupes of times I thought I was reading a Harliquin Romance.
I have a weakness for a book series featuring a band of warriors. A couple of my all time favorites are J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood and Gena Showalter’s Lords of the Underworld. They’re both so good that I always compare other books to them and most of the time the new ones fall short. It only took me until the end of chapter one to decide that The Brotherhood had the potential to become a new favorite series for me. Solid as Stone had the same feel as my favorites but it wasn’t too similar. The Brotherhood is a group of six genetically modified super soldiers, without a vampire or angel in sight. That was enough of a difference for me so I didn’t feel like I was reading a copycat series.
Stone and his Brothers were all orphaned children that The Company took in and used as human test subjects. The boys were the first children given the genetic modification formula. They were never treated like children and have always been test subjects owned and controlled by The Company. They weren't even given names, they’re simply referred to by number because they aren’t people, they’re objects. I must admit, I’m a total sucker for a tortured hero and The Brothers fit very well into that category so I was immediately drawn to Stone. Wesley is part of the story because his father was the original creator of the super soldier formula. The Company fears that Wesley is the only person outside their control that may have knowledge of when and how The Brotherhood was created. Stone is ordered by The Company to find and kill Wesley. Wesley is such an idealist. He’s a good man and a great scientist trying to save the world through his work. He sees the best in everyone. How can anyone not like a guy like that? The fact that he is a brilliant scientist only made me like him more.
The world building in this book was excellent. I loved that I got an in depth and detailed history of how The Company created The Brotherhood and the role Wesley’s father played in it. I never felt rushed or that I was missing any key piece of information. I really liked that the author took the time to explain everything that had happened and also use that time to develop Wesley's character. I felt like I had a good handle on who and what he was before he ever met Stone.
I loved the chemistry between Stone and Wesley once they finally met. It was powerful and I wanted them to be together but that bond happened too quickly for me. Going from I’m going to kill you to all consuming love in three days was too much. I can understand why the romance was rushed since so much of the book was dedicated to world building but it did knock me out of the story a little bit. I was saved from being completely knocked out only because the romance isn't the primary focus of the book. It’s important, but it takes a backseat to the ongoing battle between The Brotherhood and The Company. I like when the action/adventure in a book is just as strong as the romance so I thought the skirmishes and strategy sessions were great.
There was so much I liked about this book but there were definitely some flaws too. As I said before, the timing and pace doesn’t work well in some areas. The romance especially feels very rushed. There is also an odd exchange between Wesley and Stone when they first meet which isn’t explained well. It had me going back and rereading just to see if I missed something. I also needed an explanation for how every Brother ended up being either gay or bisexual. That was always in the back of my mind and I needed an answer so I could put that question to rest.
Hopefully the issues I had with this first book will be worked out in the following books because this series has so much potential. I loved that I got to meet and know the other Brothers a little bit and I can’t wait to read their books. I can see myself becoming obsessed with The Brotherhood, it’s the perfect combination of warriors and M/M romance. I’m so excited to have discovered this book!
Wesley is shocked when he finds his father’s notes among his mother’s things. They detail an experiment that was overtaken by the government years ago. Now, Wesley faces the results of the government experiment as they are sent to bring him in. Stone is amazed when he discovers who Wesley really is and begins to hope he is the answer to his and his brother’s problems. But, first they have to lose the The Company and their Alters.
Amylea Lyn has produced an interesting story that begins with a naive scientist and government betrayal and is obviously the beginning to a brilliant new series. Wesley is a brilliant man, but he is hopeless in social settings. When he teams up with Stone, his awkwardness is apparent, but his sweetness shines through. Stone has never been allowed to have emotions and has had them beaten out of him, but The Company failed and although Stone is very awkward with his emotions and very rusty with them, they are still there and very apparent when he talks about or is with his brothers.
Seeing Wesley and Stone fumble about with their feelings for each other is quite sweet. But, we are always reminded that they are in danger and The Company will never stop looking for them. Stone has five brothers and we meet each of them; Fury, Blade, Trigger, Ghost and Locke. When Stone discovers who Wesley is, they all defect from The Company and they have to stay one step ahead not to fall into their hands again. The Company wants Wesley and they are determined to find out what he knows about his father’s experiment and discovery.
The storyline is really good and the plot is interesting. The characters are brilliant. I can’t wait for the other brothers’ stories so they can begin to heal emotionally. There are times of danger, times of loving and times of anger and they all blend well. I really did enjoy this story, but at times I felt disconnected from the story and I can’t even tell you why. I would be in the story and then suddenly I would seem to drift for a few pages. I’d read it, but it was as though those few pages was filler with no substance, which really was a shame because Amylea Lyn has developed a really good story base and some brilliant characters. She has great baddies and a brilliant lead for the next book.
I will recommend this to those who like secret government agencies (baddies), a collection of hot men who want to be normal, two men falling in sweet love, hot sex and an ending that makes us want the next book now.
I can only tell I looking forward for the next book this series. Solid as stone is one fantastic story. Interesting and exciting the plot, where six man have been turned in war machines but each one have soul and hearth and can love and be loved. Stone meet Wes and both fallen in love immediately and togheter fight for being free by "Company" a secret organization that forces the brotherhood to kill an do bad stuff. I dont have decided yet who I prefer between all them but I love them yet.
Can't wait for Blade's story! Extremely excited!! Was going to scream when I saw The Brotherhood #2 "Still In Progress" sobss and there are still 3 brothers left after Blade's story..... Dunno whether I want to laugh or cry ;;;;;
Very good reading material from my point of view. Story plot is interesting and all the brothers pulling you into wishing you would read new book with new brother in it.
I should have stopped when it started to look like an "American action flick" in book form. Those are just not my cup of tea. Still.... readable enough to finish it.
