My reviews always contain spoilers, I write them so I can remember the story.
Kane finds Emma a human half frozen in the Alaskan wilderness and convinces his shifter community to keep her. When he becomes alpha she becomes his ward. Emma has had a crush on Kane ever since he found her. She is hoping she will be his mate, not remembering anything she doesn’t know when her 18th birthday will be. She’s hoping when she turns 18 she will be Kane’s fated mate.
Kane has feelings for her but knows if he finds his fated mate then she will be hurt so he has been distancing himself from her for months. One day she gets the courage up to ask him if he thinks they are fated mates? He tells her they are not meant to be and she is crushed by his rejection. The next day they bump into one another and he checks to make sure she ok and them leaves, she takes this as him being rude and cold towards her and she sick of it. She can feel her crush on him is over.
The following day he wakes up and can smell Emma and now knows she is his mate. He goes to her but since she no longer likes him she tells him he’s only choosing her because he has to not because he really wants her. He never explains to her that he had feelings for her but was worried about her not being his fated mate. She acts like a spoiled child, she grew up around shifters, she knows how fated mates work. Plus one minute she’s all I love him and the next she’s all I don’t like him anymore. Her reason for feeling like he has to pick her now that his biology dictates it and not cause he has feelings for her but the feelings and angst don’t come through like she really loved him. He tells her he can prove his feelings, he brings her a notebook with an assignment he did in high school that says knowing her had changed his life, that he felt a draw to her from the beginning. She believes he loves her now and they mate. Epilogue six months later with them mated, married, and adopting a dog. Five years later with a son and her in labor with their second baby.
Didn’t really like Emma’s character, she was to immature.

This was a quick, steamy read about a stubborn alpha and his fated mate. Emma was orphaned when Kane found her in the woods years ago with no memories of her life. They both felt an inexplicable pull towards each other since they met, but when Kane becomes Alpha of the pack, he becomes responsible for Emma and refuses to see her as more than his ward until Emma turns eighteen. Unfortunately, they don't realize Emma is Kane's mate until after he rejects her, so he has plenty of groveling to do. I like Kane's sincerity once he decides to pursue Emma wholeheartedly, but I loved Emma decision to make him work for it even more. Sweet story with a sexy homecoming🖤

Emma was rescued by Kane when she was a little with no memories. So she stayed with the pack as Alphas ward. Kane took over as alpha and lives right next door to Emma. He feels drawn to Emma, but since they don't know when she turns 18, he stays away and hurts her with his rejection. Emma was always in love with the wolf shifter and she hurt to be left alone. Now she is 18 and now Kane has to beg for forgiveness, because she is his mate.... And he botched it 😉 Fated mates, sweet, steamy, romantic , fun and a bit heartbreaking to read, and totally safe (dual virgins-fated mates) with a sweet HEA 😍😍😍😍😍

Kane has been cold and distant with Emma, a girl he found freezing cold laying in the snow. Emma totally lost memory of her first 8 years of life and since then Kane's family took care of her. When Kane's parents died, Emma became Kane's ward. Kane refused to be attracted to Emma because she's his ward but didn't talk about it with Emma...of course! 🙄🙄🤦🏻♀️ And of course, he ended being cruel and broke Emma's heart.
Not enough groveling, Emma caved too quickly...

Carino davvero, ma la traduzione lascia molto a desiderare, sembra che manchino dei pezzi, poi da che va a rilento a che in poco tempo si accoppiano, si sa come vanno a finire questi libri, ma era partito decente, lei finalmente non si butta ai suoi piedi come un burattino e invece niente di niente, poi lei ha perso la memoria da piccola e non ricorda niente, sarebbe stato carino se avesse ricordato almeno chi era e se aveva dei genitori, sembra tutto molto veloce come se non avesse saputo come continuare e così ha finito di scrivere tutto in fretta e furia.

It is what I expected. It is a classic rejection mate story. Emma is human and was rescued by Kane, a shifter when they were both kids. She has amnesia and doesn't know when her birthday is. She became his ward and they are both attracted to each other. She asks if she could be his mate to which he responds that it's not going to happen, they are not fated. She asks how can he be so sure, to which he responds,
“I just do. We’re not meant to be. For all we know, you’re already
eighteen, and that’s just further proof that we’re not fated to be.”
And right there he breaks her heart. She thinks of moving far away and when it's her 18th birthday, he scents her and needs to grovel. She rejects him not wanting him because he pushed her away for years. She rejects him saying she wants a man that wants her. And the groveling and begging for forgiveness and acceptance begins.
Rejected mates are not my cup of tea. The rejection was just brutal and I wish he didn't word it that way. I liked the groveling, it was a short story so I knew the sequences of events. He did feel an attraction to her since he first laid eyes on her when HE was a kid, so the love in this shifter world is not just when they scent their mate, it goes deeper. Some accept it, and others like Kane reject it, because he was scared that if she isn't his mate, then he would be destroying who would potentially be his mate, which I appreciate that kind of thinking and loyalty of being hell bent to be with 1 woman. What irked me is that he was positive it isn't Emma and how he just avoided her for a year. His groveling worked though and it was very sweet, I do admit I wish it were a tad longer.
Anyways, she forgives him and they of course get together after he works hard to fix the heart he broke and HEA.
It was all right, this was my least favorite Luna Wilder book, but I do love Luna Wilder, she is one off my top favorite authors and I feel safe reading her books. I trust her. Besides the rest of the series I think we'll have really good shifter stories, less angsty than this one.
I am curious about another shifter at the diner interested in Emma's friend Willa, his name is Mack. He does not reject the fact that he loves Willa, so that is so different and I think I will enjoy Willa and Mack's story more. Jonas and Maddie too, their story seems promising.
I would still recommend it and I am excited for the rest of the novellas to come!

The Alpha's Ward es un romance lindo con un poco de picante y drama. Una lectura rápida y fácil.
Me gustó la historia de Emma y Kane. Al inicio se sintió terrible el rechazo de él hacía ella. Al igual que Emma, yo no creía que todo lo arreglaba lo de ser parejas destinadas. Tenía que quererla por ella. Por suerte este alfa tenía cómo probar que siempre la quiso! Súper tierno ese niño escribiendo una carta sobre la persona que tuvo un impacto en su vida. De todas formas Emma estuvo bien en no perdonarlo enseguida por evadirla por tanto tiempo y romperle el corazón. Lo hizo retorcer un poco y probar su amor.
Me encantaron los epilogos a meses después y años después, fue un final completo el HEA de Emma y Kane ❤️🐺
Ya quiero ver a las amigas de Emma encontrar un lobo o un oso!

I liked Emma. I like how straightforward she was (with a bit of a push), and how well she handled the rejection. Even though I knew it wasn't meant to be I was excited for her to be making plans for her friends. And in other circumstances I think I would have liked Kane's uhoh moment and him trying to make it up to her.
My problem was the age thing. The alpha's are literally sitting around waiting for a gaggle of fresh out of high school 17 year old girls to turn legal so they can claim and breed them. And there is a scene in the diner that skeeved me out so much I couldn't get past the feeling of these poor girls who have no real chance at a future. And apparently it's every girl in the town. They are just waiting to turn 18 and hopefully be swooped up by the right alpha. Alpha's whose age is never mentioned but they are old enough to be in charge of their pack, so probably a fair bit older.
It highlighted for me what I liked about the rest of the series' set in Aspen Ridge. Most of those mates were older, out of school and had some sort of job or history. Emma has very little past with her amnesia. She does make some plans once she is rejected at least. And thank goodness she is managed to graduate HS. I think her friends' books have a good chance of being good in terms of story, and I don't normally mind an age gap. But I don't know that I can get over any of these guys and their count down to 18 thing.

If you loved the Ash Mountain series, you’ll love this one

Two BIG things.
1. The story is great! Loved it!
2. If you like the Ash Mountain series by Skye Alder, you’ll definitely love this story as they are very similar
Now that I’ve made that clear, I’ll talk about what I liked about this story. I really felt for the FMC and her level of heartbreak and embarrassment. I was glad to see an appropriate level of groveling by the MMC, because she really deserved it from him and the way he’d been treating her. He really was quite sweet when he realized his error. It just stunk that the MMC chose to approach his feelings for the FMC in the almost mean way that he did, the poor thing didn’t deserve it.
Thankfully, we get our HEA. The steamy scenes were great. Whilst it’s weird if you think about 18 being the age of consent in many places and the arbitrary-ness of it remarkably matching when a shifter is discernible as a fated mate (which is a biology thing), I kinda love it too. It’s black and white, takes the creep factor out of it and I love the lengths characters will go to in stories like this and the other series I mentioned once they discover someone is their fated mate. It’s pretty adorable 😊
Do I recommend this story? Absolutely, I enjoyed it! I’m looking forward to the next book in the series!

This fated mate shifter romance novella is sweet, short, and steamy. Emma is a gentle and shy human girl living among a community of shifters after being rescued many years ago. Kane found her and begged his Alpha to keep Emma protected by allowing her to remain in their pack. Now that Kane is Alpha of the Aspen Ridge pack, he distances himself from Emma as it’s clear she has a crush on him. He doesn’t want to hurt her or hurt his future fated mate. As fate would have it, Emma is revealed to be his fated mate on the day of her 18th birthday. Too bad for Kane, as he rejected Emma before he realized they were mates and now has to grovel to earn her heart.
Emma was such a lovable FMC. She was super sweet but also had a great backbone. She didn’t run into Kane’s open arms when he realized they were mated. She made him work for it! For a novella, the grovel was fabulous.

I am loving this new series already! This can definitely be a standalone but I know there is going to be some fun times coming soon for their friends! The crisis easy to get into and the plot is sweet and short and tells a full story.

He just didn't know why. Dude. You AND your wolf? Ok, I am seriously shocked his wolf of the two of them didn't figure it out. I wish the tension was more drawn out but regardless, great chemistry and storyline. I loved how she gave it to him. Also so intrigued as to what will happen between her friends and some Alphas. Great little story and the beginnings of a awesome new series. Did I mention it connects to the previous series? Loved that and loved this!

Had he left it too late to claim her?
Kane had always had some kind of feeling for Emma but he should only have any feelings for his fated mate.
Starting to keep his distance and ignore her, he was shocked when she approached him before she was 18 to see if he had any feelings for her so he rejected her and said no, only to wake up on the morning of her 18th to realize that she had been his fated mate all along!

I loved The Alpha's Ward Book 1 of Aspen Ridge Pack: The Alphas. Emma isn’t a shifter but she knows that Kane is the one for her, to bad he doesn’t agree and pushes her away. Emma decides it’s time to move along. She’s tired of being no one’s first choice. Kane wants Emma but knows he has to wait for his mate, so he pushes Emma away. This is such a great storyline and I loved the characters. When Kane realized his mistake it may be too late. Will he be able to keep his mate? I would definitely recommend this book and I can’t wait for more in the series.

This is book number 1 of the Aspen Ridge Pack: The Alphas series and focuses on Kane and Emma. Emma has been with the Aspen Ridge pack since she was found in the woods as a young child. She has been in love with Kane, who is now the alpha, for years and hopes he is her mate. However, when he shuts her down after she makes her feelings known she is determined to get far away from him as soon as possible. When Kane discovers that Emma is in fact his mate he has a lot to make up for while trying to win her over. This was a great story and a great start to this series.

A short & steamy read. Human Emma and Wolf Kane have been in each others lives from when Kane found her as a child frozen and alone. Unrequited love and rejection complicate things for both of them made even worse when Emma turns 18. There was a genuinely sweetness between both of them and although this was a quick read I liked the dynamic that they had together. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on more books in this series.

Good start to the series
I enjoyed Emma and Kane’s rejected fated mate shifter romance. Kane is a wolf shifter alpha. Ten years ago he found a half frozen human girl, Emma. She has been his ward ever since. When Emma asked if they could be fated mates, Kane rejects her but then he realizes she is his mate. Despite being short, the story was well written and included three dimensional characters and a fairly engaging storyline.

Another great read!!
Once again Luna Wilder delivers a juicy, sexy, steamy, full-on BDE paranormal romance. The characters, Kane and Emma I loved them right from minute one.
I loved the angst in the middle of the story where Kane wasn't sure if he would ever get back in Emma's good graces. I love3 a little edge to a love story. It just adds more excitement to the mix. And it was just right for Kane and Emma's story. And that epilogue? OMG soooo good!! Definitely a must-read.

This is an excellent quick read! The storyline hooks you from the start, the characters are delightful—and fully developed; the plot is pretty straightforward but still really good; and the HEA…simply wonderful! This was a good story that's about Kane and Emma. This was an enjoyable story to read as Kane becomes the ward of Emma who he found half frozen in the woods. As Emma stayed with Kane, she fell for him. But Kane rejected her even though he fell too. What occurs is an engaging second chance shifter romance story with likable characters. I'd received a copy via "May Small Town Beaus" promotion, and I volunteer to read and review.

This was a fantastic fated mates romance. It was a short, well written story with a high level of steam. Kane and Emma had a hard time of it before finding out they were fated and I loved that he had to work for it. Fantastic story.

I thought this was such a sweet novella. Emma is a total sweetheart as is Kane though he did what he thought was best. This fairly low-drama high heat romance was fun to read, and I really enjoyed this story.
