Office of Highland Magic #3

The Werewolf's Fate

Rate this book
Scotland’s werewolf clans were some of the most terrifying in Europe — until their most famed general turned in his dirks for data. Now, he’s being charged with crimes he didn’t commit and violence might be the answer.

‘The Werewolf’s Fate’ is the third book in the Office of Highland Magic series, featuring a department of academics keeping track of Scotland’s magical peoples and relics.

Emmett O’Neill is much happier as a researcher in the Office of Highland Magic than he ever was as the general of one of Scotland’s most vicious werewolf clans. He traded tartan for tweed, and the only thing that provokes him to violence is when he can’t open a package of Walkers shortbread. But when members of Edinburgh’s magical community start turning up dead, old prejudices arise and fingers are pointed at Emmett.

Pippa Hill is a bounty one of the most acceptable positions for a baobhan sith in this new, modern Scotland. She can still seduce, drink, and fight her way through a job, which is all she’s ever wanted. When Pippa accepts a bounty on a werewolf in Edinburgh, she finds herself crossing the country to warn her friends.

One thing that Pippa doesn’t account for is Emmett. When she learns that there’s no hard evidence to prove his guilt, she’s willing to help determine who’s really behind the grisly killings. There’s just one thing Pippa and Emmett can’t strategize for — and that is their growing attraction. As the real culprit closes in on them, Pippa learns to never underestimate the quiet ones.

Please note ‘The Werewolf’s Fate’ is an adult paranormal romance with sex scenes, graphic violence, and swearing.

Once more to magical Scotland we go. With Calum and Mara happily mated, the third member of our original court trio is feeling a little lonely. Emmett lost touch with his family when the barrier between Faerie and the human world went up after the Battle of Culloden and now that his friends are happily paired off he’s feeling a bit lost.

Pippa is in a similar boat. While Mara got to escape from her toxic family for a few centuries during the curse, her cousin Pippa was trapped with hers. The baobhan sith are seductresses and succubi… but somehow Pippa’s mother did NOT get the memo that curvy girls can be sexy AF bombshells just as much as skinny girls can. After centuries of her mother trying to kill her self esteem, Pippa is living her best independent life as a badass bounty hunter in Scotland.

When a bounty notice comes up on Emmett’s head, Pippa gets roped in to help find out the reason behind it. I mean how could our sweet, biscuit loving book nerd deserve to have a bounty on his head?!?

With some delightful forced proximity as these two hunt down leads in the Scottish Highlands, the sparks fly and they just might learn that feisty banter can be the best foreplay into something more. Not to mention sexy werewolves (excuse me wulvers) are quite the self-esteem boosters when they get all possessive and lusty eyed😉

If you loved the first two books in the series and want more magic, Scottish mythology, and extra steamy spice scenes, along with some fun new characters, this one is for you!

Bonus: that end of epilogue cliffhanger left me thinking that we might be seeing more of this magical Scottish world after all 😍

3.5 ☆ I liked so much, even when I was hoping to see Emmet's softer side instead of this new persona that came with Pippa. I hope the author decides to write about the O'Neil brothers in the future and I can't wait for Ayda's book!!

I am so so so happy that I got to see more of Emmett! I fell in love with the werewolf in book 1 & this book just made me so happy. I was immediately in a happy place diving back into this world and it just gets better with every book! I think this might be my favorite couple so far!

The Werewolf's Fate by Ferrell Dawson
💫 ARC review💫

This book sent me fer@l with so many of the PNR tropes I love. It didn't take long to be sucked into this new world with one growling werewolf, who has a predilection for romance novels and a surpressed Wulver instinct- solving a rogue wolf mystery with a 🗡 wielding bounty hunter, who's a little neurospicy and versed in pushing everyones buttons!

@ferrelldawsonauthor gave us a new found family to become obsessed with, as well as magyck, p0ss3s.ive himb0s, intrigue and forced proximity. The plot and banter are highlights, as well as the rising tension.

The writing style is easy to read, with low angst and moments of returning loveable characters from the other stories in the series. Binge-able, enjoyable and a world that provides the perfect escape.. This has all the perfect elements of a book I will love to revisit! Absolutely one to add to your TBR. 4.5⭐

My favorite of the bunch♡ because Emmett is my baby and also my spirit animal, and Pippa is a sassy, curvy queen. Love them both and adored the slower burn (in some ways) on this one compared to the first two.

Great rivalry tension going on.

side note::: There are parts in this one, like with the other two, that I feel should have been caught by an editor. As a writer immersed in the work, you don't always notice plot connections/holes (minor ones), misspellings, or grammatical errors. So, if an editor misses this, I find it odd since that's their entire job... But the author's writing itself is good, and you can feel the characters' personalities and connections with each other!

Loving Emmett

I loved Emmett from the last books, he is a great character as he is the sweet but big lovable wulver. It was great to see that his match was such a strong curvy female willing to look past their pervious encounter to help him out. Loving the fact that there was more background to Emmett's character.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

sassy and sweet

Emmett and Pippa’s relationship is such a fun grumpy sunshine dynamic. Both feral cinnamon rolls in their own right, with an affection for sharp objects. Witty banter, magic, and Walker’s shortbread makes for an all around good time!

Another wonderful addition to the series, now I am excited for some elves!!

Still absolutely loving this series. Excellent fantasy (urban fantasy?) romance with great world-building and a wide range of characters, in both personality and fae types. Interesting to learn a bit more about the Shetland Islands too, though as a knitter I was disappointed that there wasn't any mention of sheep, or lovely knit wear!

This series just keeps getting better! Watching sassy Pippa and growly Emmett with his heart of gold finding each other and solving a nasty case of murderers along the way. Sprinkled with steam and lots of heartwarming moments. ❤️

Steamy

Steamy romance full of community and couple duality. I mean, who wouldn't want the geek with some spice, right? I hope for more books in this series and thanks for the swear words in Gaelic.

if you like magic entangled with Highlanders, this is for you

While I loved the first two books in this series, this one really takes the cake. We see a whole different side to Emmett I never expected, and boy does he surpass all expectations. The more gruff, clan lifestyle is right up my alley as a lover of all Highland history and lore. Definitely hope we get to see more of Emmett in the next books !
