The 2011 edition of the Book of Church Order of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. This contains the Form of Government, the Book of Discipline, and the Directory for Public Worship.
Obviously a book like this can be very dry at parts. However, overall, I was impressed by how much it covered and how biblical the OPC BCO is. I particularly found the “Directory of Public Worship” an incredibly edifying and helpful summary of the regulative principle of worship in practice. The discussion of different officers in the church and their roles was also well written. A book I’ll definitely reference in the future.
i really liked the part where a judicatory can remand an appeal back to a lower judicatory after the appeal had been appealed first to a lower judicatory and then appealed again to a higher judicatory. anyone else?
You can tell that there is thousands of years of wisdom in the way the OPC orders the church through the biblical way. A book of church order is not an easy read, but this is most helpful in understanding how to handle situations that happen in church from installing ministers, accepting members, administration of the sacraments, rules for session meetings, presbytery, and general assemblies. It also thoroughly goes through order of service and church discipline. As someone who was an elder in a church that did not have a book of church order, this was very refreshing to see all these things clearly and thoughtfully worked out.
