READING TO JANE combines the reality of aging, the brashness of youth, the stigma of societal outcasts, and the turmoil of loss in an intricately woven three-part adventure.

This was not my usual read, but a friend recommended it to me and I gave it a try. I was drawn to the character's complexity and vulnerability. The book was thought provoking on several levels. First, many years ago I made a similar cross-country trip with my aged father. It was one of the richer of life's experiences and this book brought it all back. And second, the story made me think about values and stereotypes that separate us from people as they pass us by in life. It made me want to take the time to take advantages of those opportunities. Well done. I intend to read more of her stories.
Any book that can make me cry gets 5 stars from me. I recommend Carole Marshall's writing, regardless of the subject. I have several of her ebooks (2) and am happy with what I read.
