The world wasn’t always shit.
I know it’s hard to believe sometimes. When the war machine is drilling in earshot or when the toxic rain has eaten through your clothes or when you’re lighting the pyre under your loved ones, believing that this planet used to be something better, something beautiful, gets hard. Especially if, like me, you weren’t around to see it.
I only know because my old man told me stories when I was a kid. Well, that’s not entirely true. There were other ways I knew about it, but it was only because my old man told me that I actually believed it. He used to tell me there was a time when the wastelands and toxic expanse of No Man’s Land were filled with lush green grass and the rain was cool and refreshing and didn’t burn through your clothes and scar your skin. That was before my time, sure, but it’s true. And it wasn’t that long ago, really. My old man saw it with his own eyes.
Owen was born and raised to be a soldier, and he was determined to be a damned good one.
Until things started to change.

Inspired by the art of Philip Mullin, Dissension chronicles one man's search for his own identity in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by an unending war. Owen tells his own story - detailing all he knows, all he feels, and all he learns over time - trusting that even if he can't make a difference, there's someone out there that can.

This was probably the peak of her writing.
The dialogue was high side of fair, the action was decent, the investigative aspect was good.
It's a good fit into the genre, and could be set on the shelves next to many good books in the post-apoc section.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident,
that all men are created equal
and are granted by their Creator certain rights,
and among those are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
That to secure these rights,
governments are instituted among men,
deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.
The government has failed.
Consent has been revoked."

Our world is always changing. People are constantly coming up with new ideas about things. New ideas are good. They give us new things and more knowledge. But sometimes those new ideas can backfire on us and things will go completely haywire.

'Dissension', the first book of the Scarred Sun Trilogy, takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where the government has gone completely insane. This world is very different from the world that we know and the knowledge within this story must be passed down to us.

Carrie Baize sends us through a story of unbelievable madness about a man who simply wants to make things better. And he will stop at nothing until he reaches his goal.
