SHE AWOKE IN THE WRONG BODY, BUT IN THE ARMS OF THE RIGHT MAN …
In Until I Die Again, Chris Copestakes died in a terrible car wreck and woke up in the body of beautiful, selfish Hallie DiBarto, the wife of a wealthy California resort owner. But what happened to Hallie’s soul?

Stranger in the Mirror is the second book in this series of Soul Change. The main protagonist, Hallie, died but was give a second chance in another person’s body, Marti West, who had died from strangulation.
Hallie finds that Marti West is pregnant and she must figure out what to do. She doesn’t want this baby and doesn’t even know the father. Her feelings soon tell her that the father is just the man for her but how can she convince him after confessing that she really is not who he thinks she is. He did not love Marti who tricked him into impregnating her so he would marry her.
The new Marti begins to like this new life with a man she is falling in love with and a baby who she has felt move inside her and has stolen her heart. She feels her world tearing apart when two other women show an interest in her husband, Jesse, and she vies to hang onto this man no matter what it takes.
An interesting read about an intriguing subject. Will Marti be successful in keeping Jesse or will the person who thought he had murdered her return to finish the job?
Okay this is my review for so far...I'm not finished reading the book yet but I have opinions already so I got to say um;
Review one; So this book (book two of soul change series) we are looking at what happened to Hallie after she died, turns out she gets in another body several months after her death. Her old body which we read about in the first book is now occupied by Chris, and the time difference is several months so Chris and Jamie are already almost in love. Hallie comes into her new body late so she can't really go back home to Jamie.
Anyway Hallie is now in the body of Marti who is pregnant (not a spoiler u learn this in the first chapter) and married to Jesse. Now Hallie tells Jesse that she's not Marti (once again happens early on in book, not spoiler). And after awhile Jesse believes her and eventually they tell his mom and his sister who also believe that Hallie is who she says she is, inside Marti's body.
That's some basic backgrounds for what's happening right now. Hallie, who we learned in the first book, is this really awful, manipulative, just overall selfish person but we find out in book 2 that she might not be all that terrible. She was just really unhappy with her life and she was taking it out on others.
So misunderstood character, cool, I still have a hard time seeing her as someone who legitimately can care for others. And she is now pregnant, with a baby, and it frustrates me that she's more concerned about leaving than the fact that she has a baby inside of her and if she feels that she's still Hallie and not Marti does that mean she likes the baby? I don't know how I would feel if I body swapped somebody and I was pregnant with their baby does that make the baby mine? DNA says it is, but Hallie is kind of selfish I don't think she has it in her to love another human. I'm just concerned that she's going to become like a terrible mom and Jesse doesn't seem to think that since he asks her to stay.
I don't know so far it's just been a kind of a struggle to switch from seeing her as this evil person to someone who's misunderstood in the second book and it's making for a rough read. Is also frustrating that she tells the people shes with so soon that she's actually Hallie. Part of the drama in my opinion is being like 'oh my God I have the secret that I'm not who I say I am'. But she blows on out of the water in the first few chapters. so now we're more concerned about the assault that happens in the first chapter and who did it so now it's more of a mystery book then anything. I don't know this is just my first review if I finish the book I will post review two of my final thoughts until then stay tuned.
Review two ( Final review):
Okay so I finished the book, and I got to say I didn't enjoy it as much as the first one. Don't get me wrong the writing and general idea of the story is wonderful. The author is very talented. This story just wasn't for me for a handful of reasons;
The first being they are in the south...meaning they are country folk. Now there is nothing wrong with country, I grew up in a tiny country town so it's relatable to an extent. But I think that's why I don't like the whole 'cowboy lover' trope. Been there done that, got the T-SHIRT.
The second being the lack of feelings for the baby! I talked about this more in review one, she doesn't seem to care about the kid at all, it's like an after thought. Even later on in the book Hallie AKA Marti is just like "shoot, forgot I was pregnant" I hate that. Could be because I love children, and as a future mom I couldn't imagine not giving my 100% attention to my baby. I wanted her to have this moment of struggle with finally admitting how much she loved the baby. I wanted tears and fears all over the page. I didn't get it.
And finally my last complaint is the bad guy was predictable. I wasn't shocked, I wasn't surprised. None of it. The bad guy and his reasoning for being bad was predictable and cliche'.
But don't get me wrong I loved alot of things too! For starters that Epilogue! Freaking dope! I want another chapter of that alone.
The story is not something I have read before, not alot of romance stories with different souls in other people's bodies. Very cool idea.
Anyway great book even if it's not the best in the series it's a better book then some others I've read. Enjoy!
I enjoyed book 2 in this series. Enjoyed watching the transformation of the heroine of the story and seeing her believe her worth, as well as falling in love with a great guy, who also did some growing. Love the idea of switching souls and bodies, something similar to my Angel series.
Another book in the Soul Exchange series by Tina Wainscott (aka Jaime Rush). In the previous book, Until I Die Again, we met Chris Copestakes, who died and returned in Hallie DiBarto's body. Well, now we meet Hallie who comes back in Marti West's body. Marti was raped and killed. But now she is alive and the rapist is still out there. In addition, Marti is pregnant and married to hunky Jesse James West. Hallie wants to return to California and continue her life but agrees to stay until the baby is born.
I liked it but not quite as much as the previous book. Perhaps because I didn't like Hallie in the previous book. But I finally warmed up to her some towards the end. Jesse, however, I loved big time! He was so sweet and wonderful and protective. The rapist/murderer was a surprise to me. I would recommend this to Romantic Suspense lovers who like an emphasis on romance with a twist.
Okay, now I am addicted! I never, ever should have read the blurb at the end of book one , let alone book two! Nor, have I paid the bills this month, but NOW I MUST HAVE, "WOKE UP DEAD!" You are a very dangerous writer, Ms Wainscott! Book three, NOW!
Reader beware, addicting author of amazing books! Begin with the first, and it's game over, you simply cannot do without the next. See you after , "Woke Up Dead".
As a followup to UNTIL I DIE AGAIN, one gets to see what happened to Hallie DeBarto when she wakes up in the wrong body. The EMT had sworn she was dead but she woke not in her Hallie DiBarto body but as Marti West, a quiet but calculating waitress in a Florida hick town. Okay, in her mind Hallie knew she had made a lot of mistakes, but this! How could she ever settle in as a bit of a mousey little housewife and pregnant with Jesse West’s child as well!
Hallie was teetering on the edge of a bitter divorce when she was struck with a cerebral stroke, now she was in the body of a woman who had been assaulted and raped. All she can think of is wanting to get back to California and her old life. But, Jesse had one request – stay until the baby is born.
Hallie struggles to conform to this new life and his tight-knit family, but now she is also trying to stay alive as the person who assaulted her is still on her track and waiting to finish the job of murdering her.
Wow, this was quite the mystery and really had a lot of edge-of-the-seat moments as well as a lot of sensualness as Jessi and Marti/Hallie began to have feelings for one another. The villain in the piece was pretty much kept a secret up until the spine chilling end although I had figured it out by then. However, it truly was a great story and as this series is nowhere to being done. I am looking forward to grabbing more books in this Love and Light series.
A lot of errors. Quite sloppy really. 1) Caty becomes Katie at one mention 2) June 22 was the original birthdate mentioned in the beginning and in the ending it was changed to June 23 3) “completely excellent” was what Hallie used to say not “absolutely excellent”
Then there’s the fact that Hallie/Marti was just awful and selfish. And some of the story made no sense. She was so desperate to return to California and planning to save money to get back. But then she’s spending money buying dozens of bags of clothes worth and expensive Christmas presents. It made no sense. She can’t have made all that much waitressing so what money was she shopping with exactly? The author wanted us to believe she was some socialite snob, and while she has her moments, it also didn’t jive that she was shopping with no money in what I assume are store no where near her former lifestyle. And there’s no way she had the money to do that from part time at a diner.
Marti also made a lot of dumb decisions - going to investigate Carl’s house being the biggest. It was just pure stupidness.
Jesse and Bumpus were the only good things. But not enough to redeem this story.
4 stars Tina Wainscott’s “Stranger in the Mirror” was an improvement to its prequel, “Until I Die Again.” Taking place in the same universe where a higher power allows for departed souls to inhabit soulless bodies for a second chance at life, it sets up for a new twist where the love interest already has a negative history with the body’s previous owner. What made this book better than its prequel was the fact that the heroine had character flaws. This made her interesting and her character journey much more steeper as she learned to become a better rounded person. I liked the thriller ride, the plot, and the slow developing romantic relationship.
Altogether, I give it 4 stars. I feel what it's missing is that although I found the characters interesting, they didn't blow me away. I'm comparing this to stories where I got so connected to the characters that I didn't want to accept that my adventure with them was over.
When I started this sequel I had no idea how the author was going to bring me around to rooting for the anti-heroine (she was such an awful human being) but she did it. The life that she ended up with was so crazy but fitting—-and a lot of laughs. Funny enough, I’m from a “cow town” in Florida and I knew a lot of people like the Wests, so that helped. But the ending was everything. I hoped that the former Hallie would have a chance to cross paths with Jamie and apologize for the pain and grief she had put him through. We didn’t get to see it all play out but the fact that we can assume it happens is good enough I guess. This is a fantastic series!!!!!!!

Tina Wainscott imbues her books with magical, inexplicable moments or events! The preternaural twist in this manuscript is a fascinating one and I believe it is the premise of the series! Without giving spoilers or summary I would warn readers as to some troubling triggers in the novel! These aspects are mentioned mostly matter-of-factly! The plotline has lots of suspense, some romance and lots of twists! Stranger in the Mirror is a very compelling story! While the redundant angst drags on far too long (ad nauseum), the storyline is solid! The protagonists are clueless, as expected, but lovable, eventually!
I read the first book in the series and found it different and enjoyable. This one, not so much. Perhaps the premise is wearing thin - a woman dies and wakes up in another woman's body and has to live her life. The woman in this book is the woman who died in the last book and she was not a nice person. The woman who woke up in her body had quite a job ahead of her! Here we have the not-nice girl and maybe she just wasn't likable. The author also sorta overplayed the Southern country music, NASCAR, diners, and jeans-boots-cowboy hats trope. In Florida? OK.
First.for me. The book is a lot of first for me. I read the first book, where Chris I loved which lead to my next first. I have never done that which led to my next firsts. I am trying to re ad to the second book. I loved next first. Why the world did buy this series They do not appear to written by the same author or even by twoeople from the same planet. I haven't ditch them yet, so lets hope that I find the magic again..
I would recommend Book 1 to everyone. Book 2 I am going to try again today. As of now I would not recommend to anyone
Dnf. I wanted them not to believe Hallie’s crazy story because it’s just that, crazy story. I wanted to see some hostility from Jesse and his family towards Marti considering she “trapped” him into marriage. Got none of that instead Hallie goes scot-free with all her selfish actions in her past life and doesn’t change. Why would she? If she faced some struggles, the circumstances might have helped her to see that she needed to change. But again things got handed to her on a platter and she was easily believed which was a complete led down.
The first book of this series was a great read for me. I was sooo excited for this second book because it's about a character mentioned on the first book. But the pacing is slow on this one and the story kinda bored me. I tried to pick it up a lot of times but can't proceed reading.
So for now, I'm putting this on my dnf shelf. Maybe one day? Not sure.😕
Absolutely loved reading this book. Hard to put down. I have already purchased the next book in line. You get laughter, sadness, sex appeal, and an overall good reading experience.
This is a well done body switch romance. Jesse and Marti were very likable. This story contained more suspense than I personally care for and that is the only reason I rated 4 instead of 5 stars.
Good story about second chances. A woman finds herself in another woman’s body after she is murdered. This is a story about finding your place, your love and has a mystery to solve.
Wow, I’m glad I found this author because the last two books have been page turners. I just didn’t want to put them down. Strongly recommend reading this.
Enjoyable read. Quirky with likeable characters. Bit far fetched in some places but nice escapist story. Would have liked the story to link more to previous book
This is a good follow up from the first book. We first meet Hallie in the first book through the eyes of her victims. Hallie was a horrible person who cheated on her husband, stole from his friends and lied to everyone whenever it suited her purpose. She was a selfish socialite whose goal in life were to party and shop. She would never consider having her husband's babies because babies would ruin her beautiful body.
She dies of a massive CVA but wakes up in the body of another woman. A woman who is pregnant and married to the man she tricked into marrying her. Does Hallie take this 2nd chance as an opportunity to learn how to love herself, then love her husband and child or will Hallie run back to the empty life she left behind filled with the ruins of the damage she left behind?
This is a story well written. I did prefer the storyline in the 1st book better than I did this one BUT, I still enjoyed it.
As soon as I read Until I Die again, I rushed and bought this one.
Did not like it as much as the last, but I must say I'm loving the Soul Change books.
It's just awesome in a way, because it's ...unique and suspenseful. I kind of guessed the killer earlier on, but it wasn't the mystery that kept me hooked into these books. It was the story.
My only gripe in this book was that the resolution to the relationship issues were resolved in a snap once the killer was found out. I was expecting a big confrontation (because it would've been so much fun) but I didn't get that.
All in all, these are pretty short reads for me, and they are a bliss to read. <3
Beautiful bodyswap novel with strong emotions and character growth for the main characters. I'm glad I read this before Book 1 of the Love and Light series, as I don't think I can fully reconcile this version of Hallie with the one introduced in Book 1. I found this book to be very sweet, with a satisfying and believable relationship between the MC and the father of her child.
I enjoyed this book. It's not the Offspring series good but I enjoy Jaime's idea of souls changing places and getting a second chance. At times the story is silly but over all not a bad read and a good idea.
