While grandsons and grandmas come in all sizes, this book was enjoyed equally by a reading circle of 5-7 yr olds. The story generated emotional responses from most and the feedback from their parents was great too. This series has been a winner since the first book and I'm happy to be able to share it with the children around me.

Why We Need Grandsons is part of the Always in My Heart series. This was a perfect book to share with my grandson, letting him know how special he is and how much I love him. Each two page spread has a beautiful illustration of an adult animal and a young one representing a grandparent and grandson doing something together, then there is a 4 line text corresponding to it. There are bears, puppies, octopi, and even platypuses. They are playing, swimming, observing others and sometimes just sitting quietly together. The illustrations are large, colourful and full of life and we spent a lot of time talking about them. The text is in four line stanzas with three lines rhyming and the last not, which is fine, but often the cadence was off, which made me stumble a bit when reading aloud. Overall this is a gorgeous book with a wonderful message of love and spending time together. A wonderful gift for that young grandson in your life.

All the joys of having grandsons make life better for all as is told with beautiful illustrations and rhyming prose. Excellent!
The illustrations by Lisa Alderson are delightful, imaginative, detailed, and colorful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from SOURCEBOOKS Kids, Sourcebooks Wonderland via NetGalley. Thank you!

Adorably illustrated,
Sweet sentiments though not all are rhyming & if they were it would flow better for younger children. In an ideal world, all grandchildren would have sets of grandparents, but oftentimes a grandparent is solo for one reason or another, including being widowed. This book is written from the standpoint of being red by a set of grandparents which makes it awkward, if not confusing for children if you are a solo grandparent.

This book is just like the many many others in its series. The illustrations are soft and adorable, and the story is just telling you all the good things about having a grandson. One of the things that annoys me about this book is, it’s always four lines per stanza first three lines rhyme, and the last one doesn’t. It annoys me and takes the enjoyment away from this otherwise lovely book.

First book I’ve read In this series has lovingly sweet illustrations of various animals and wildlife which corresponds to a grandparent and child. The prose is beautiful appealing to child and adult alike as it describes the beauty and immense joy the grandparent has with the arrival of a new Grandson. Looking forward to having the same experiences described with my four month old Grandson!

This book was good, I would purchase it. My son really enjoyed it and the art is beautiful.

There’s a rhyme scheme each page for three lines and then the fourth doesn’t rhyme, it throws things off a tad though it doesn’t change the quality.

It was a sweet book that would be a great gift to give grandparents! The only thing I didn’t love was how the last sentence of each page didn’t rhyme.
