Cicada #2

“The darkest days are ahead of us,” Andrew whispered as the drape of shadows slipped away, allowing Blair to awaken. And in her heart of hearts she knew it was true. The unmistakable signs were all around her, growing within her. She was becoming something more than human. All she could do was accept the inevitable.

“I’ve become a freak … an alien. I no longer belong to the human world,” Blair told her true love, and he held her close, determined never to give her up.

“I’d stay in this darkness forever as long as I could be with you. Wherever you are … that’s my home.” Everett meant every word. In fact, he’d willingly give up his own life to protect the girl he’d always loved.

But there was a storm brewing … a firestorm so strong and catastrophic that it could keep them apart forever.

That storm roared into town wearing a brown leather bomber jacket and riding a motorcycle.

Ash was like a secret in human clothing … a dangerous secret. Everything about him was mesmerizing – right down to the swirls of ink that flowed over the smooth muscles across his chest and around his arms. Being with him was like playing with fire.

Blair knew all about playing with fire.

She knew something else, too. A small quiet voice deep within whispered that she really would be separated from everyone and everything she’d known and loved.

Because some secrets run too deep.

Epic follow up to one of my favorite books of 2012 ‘Cicada’. This one follows Blair Reynolds after the events in book one. Her world has changed as she has changed in the most unusual ways. This follows her transformation as a mere human into something more ethereal. All my favorite characters return in this one: Everett, Andrew, David and Natalie. They join forces once more to save Blair from the outside forces baring down on her and attempting to claim her forever.

I’m in awe of this series. I never read anything like this storyline. Sci-fi lovers will love this! It takes paranormal into a high new level of intrigue and mystery. I had to drop everything to read this sequel, it was that amazing! I loved the new characters that were introduced too−Ash was probably my absolute favorite. We don’t discover what his role is to the very end and that had me really frustrated because I wanted to know what he had to do with Blair and how did he know her so well?

Love how it’s written, the pet names everyone has for each other and the fierce love they share makes you root for them in every way, praying that they get what they want and live through the treacheries around them.

Not a short read at all and that was a good thing. Packed full of mystery, suspense, love and even horror, I found the story grabbing my attention and never letting go. The only thing I’d change, is have book 3 in my hands right now! Awesome!

So, this was one of those that I couldn't put down. I don't read a lot of sci-fi, alien-type books, but I really liked this one. Also, I felt like Blair was much stronger in this book. I wanted to, I don't know, high-five her or something. Moreover, as someone who grew up in a small Texas town, I found the author's characters and settings not only accurate, but dead-on. Can't wait for book 3!

Whoa Mama!!! There are not enough great adjectives to describe this book!!

I have been dying to read this book since I first got my hands on book 1, Cicada. Let me just say this, Ms. Whittington does not disappoint in her teeth gnashing, action packed, mystery filled, suspenseful sequel!! I love this story so much I don't know where to begin; it's so difficult to define and explain without spoilers. Firefly is darker and more mysterious than Cicada and trust me this is a very, very good thing. Ms. Whittington's writing has only gotten better. She connects more of the dots (warning: you must be patient for them!) of the mystery surrounding Blair, her family and friends. While Firefly has all the mystery, suspense and sci-fi elements of Cicada, it also kicks up the romance a really big notch. Since I'm "in love" with love, this really does it for me. There is also no shortage of hotties in book 2! I must say that the hotties, are not just hot but smokin'! Whew I'm getting warm just thinking of everyone's favorite bug boy Everett. Don't expect the same Everett from book 1, he's changed (oh my how he has changed)! Ladies, don't worry you will not be disappointed in the change. In Firefly, Everett faces some competition for Blair's affection from the mysterious Ash. Oh my goodness Ash, I'm fanning my face just thinking of the very intense and sexy Ash. I've NEVER been so caught up and confused by a love triangle in my life. I LOVE both of them! Damn you Belle Whittington!!!!!
We also get a closer and more in depth look at other characters such as: David, Natalie, Mom and Grandma. Hands off! David is mine everyone! David is one of my all-time favorite book characters!! He steals the show in every scene he appears in.
I devoured this book and was very stressed when it ended. The only thing that kept me happy is the knowledge that Ms. Whittington is currently writing the last book in the trilogy. The ending had me cheering for Blair's strength, while pulling my hair in distress over the events that I know must be coming and for the mysteries still not revealed. Her writing is magic and she weaves a magnificent story that will leave readers alternately clamoring for more and saddened when it ends!
Being from Texas, like Ms. Whittington, I cannot help offering this very "Texan" comparison between Cicada and Firefly. If Cicada is a well-oiled, smooth operating pellet gun. Then, Ladies and Gentleman, Firefly is an efficient and effective, double barreled sawed off shotgun!! In other words, be prepared, be very prepared.....

Book 1: Cicada
Book 2: Firefly
Book 3: Untitled

Five....Fifty-Five......Five Hundred and Five??!!
Trust me folks, FIVE stars is not enough!!)

The creativity that I loved in Cicada was happily once again present in Firefly as this mysterious and sometimes mind-boggling tale continues. I'll admit that I spent the first half of this book alternating between being completely caught up in the suspense and action and banging my head against my desk wondering why everything had to be quite so mysterious.

One of the things that bothers me most in novels is when characters fail to share information and thus prolong their own misery and the mystery that is the plot line. This does happen a lot in Firefly as both Everett and Andrew (as well as Blair's Mom and grandparents) all appear to know a lot more than they are willing to share...leaving Blair to try to piece it all together on her own. Is this a tool to help Blair's personal growth and development or simply a device to drag out the plot resolution? I'm not sure...but either way...I couldn't help but be frustrated.

I also missed the group camaraderie that was present in Cicada, but that underlines the fact that this is very much more Blair's story...her struggle for answers and her journey toward...well...that which she is journeying toward. (Don't want to give any of the mystery away.) We do get to visit with some of the old gang....Everett...well let's just say all changes definitely for the better... and meet a few new interesting characters including the very compelling and mysterious (not to mention delicious) Ash.

Firefly managed to suck me in and keeping me up reading well past my normal bed time. I never knew exactly where we were going in this journey and I loved putting the pieces of the puzzle together with Blair. Ultimately, I love that Belle Whittington makes us work and wait a bit for all of the answers. I know that we would have missed out on a lot had Blair been spoon fed all the answers so that helped alleviate a lot of my earlier frustration as the story continued.

I felt so much for this girl struggling so hard to figure out what was going on, how she could ever accept it, and how to say goodbye to her past and her dreams for the future. I can not wait to see how all of this wraps up in the final book of the series and I'm really hoping that in book 3 we'll find out that she doesn't need to say farewell to all her dreams.

Firefly the 2nd in Belle Whittington's Cicada series definitely did not suffer from the sophomore slump. I actually enjoyed this sequel more that the first. I loved how much all of the characters grew and developed and I loved that Firefly proved to take us into a much deeper and darker place than Cicada did. I'll be the first in line to buy a copy of the as of yet Untitled third in this amazingly inventive series.

‘’Firefly’’ is one of the most interesting books I have ever read in my whole life! It is so much better than the first volume, ‘’Cicada’’, and I truly believe Mrs. Belle is an alien with writing skills<3

In this book, all the characters evolved, especially Blair. Oh my, I can’t even talk about this girl. She suffered so much and she found out so MANY things about her real life. She definitely became a heroine between the characters. Blair was a target and she was hunted like a dangerous prey by other hunters and aliens. She knew that the strange ‘’dreams’’ couldn’t be a good sign. Besides that, her heart is divided in two. You wonder why, because she only loves Everett. Well, in ‘’Firefly’’ we meet Ash, a hot strange guy who happens to know much more than he says. I liked his character till the last chapter when I started to hate him. So to be clear, I am still team Everett<3

If you loved the couple David&Natalie in ‘’Cicada’’ you have the chance to hear about them again. David was more present in this book and I loved his character. As you can imagine, he was still handsome and strong *giggles* Andrew and Everett returned, even if isn’t for a long time.

I am not going to reveal you Blair’s secrets, but I can tell you it has something to do with fireflies, a twin sister and Cicadas. I know I am cruel, but you really have to read the whole book to understand everything. It isn’t a fast read and I think it’s better that way. Although when I finished it I wanted more. Belle didn’t outdone herself and I am so curios to know what will be the final statement in the trilogy. That ending fried my brain cells!!!

If you haven’t already read Cicada then you should; it’s the price of a coffee, will last longer & give you more pleasure! Firefly carries on the narrative from Cicada, and having read Cicada you’ll have some idea of what is happening, but there are twists & turns along the way. I really enjoyed this book & will continue reading the series and also hunt out more books by Belle Whittington.

Blair is going through a transformation, but on more than one level; as well as coming to terms with the alien nation, & the growth of her new abilities; there’s also the sense of her own alienation, separated from her friends & brother & the changes in her body as she changes from girl to woman.

Dark forces operate both in the present and the past & there is a point where past & present exist together. Blair’s discovery of her family’s history raises more questions than answers...

As in my review of Cicada, I don’t want to give away too much of the story line, you can read the sleeve notes to get that, so I’ll tell you how the book made me feel.

For me the book was as much about coming of age; those years when a girl becomes a woman & a boy becomes a man; as it was a science fantasy, I don’t know if Belle wrote with that in mind or it’s just the way I understood it. As I read it made me cast my mind back to my own teenage years & the sense of alienation and isolation, (real or imagined!) & I think it made me enjoy the book all the more because of it.

As the second book in the Cicada Trilogy, Fire Fly picks up right where Cicada leaves off. The story of Blair, her older bother Andrew learning they are hybrid Humans from an ancient alien race. Blair is left to try to fit the puzzle pieces of her and her families lives as her Brother and the love of her life Everett leave to places unknown in a fight to stop the destruction of an alien race. As the story unfolds it ties in the ancient cities of South America where the mystery of their origins begin. As Blair discovers she has abilities beyond human nature she also learns she is being hunted by beings who appear to want to kill her. She realizes she will need to learn to control her powers in order to save not only her human family but her alien family as well. As Blair struggles to make sense out of her life a handsome stranger comes into her life whose only goal is to make her his "Queen". Belle Whittngton gives an old subject a different twist drawing the reader into a world of ancient beliefs in today's time. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Firefly picks right up where Cicada leaves off just as I'd hoped it would. I didn't want either book to end. I was so drawn up in the story of Blair, Andrew, Everett, David, and Natalie that I just couldn't wait to read more. And I wasn't let down at all. Firefly is a bit longer and much more satisfying even though I still didn't want it to end.

I am giving Firefly 4 stars for the same minor grammar and spelling mistakes and the same repetitive lines, although there weren't nearly as many of either this time. This series is turning out to be an intensely captivating read and I'm on the edge of my seat until the third book comes out.

I swear, the creativity behind this trilogy is amazing. I love the unique take on aliens and other worlds. I also really like Belle's writing style and attention to detail, even though there were several typos throughout the book. There are some gorgeous passages that I actually re-read, involving dreams, galaxies, and even descriptions of the changing seasons. I'm really excited to see where the next book goes, as yet again, I'm left with a lot of questions!

WOW! I loved Firefly! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. It was truly amazing. Cicada ended with Everett and Andrew going off to "college". At least that's what the parents thought. Blair struggles with being alone, and then she realizes that the others are still out there. And she has some strange powers going on.

There are many twists and turns in this book. It's hard to know sometimes too, who is good and who isn't. I cannot wait to see what book three will bring! Check out next with with a guest post from Belle Whittington on how she came up with the ideas for the titles- Cicada and Firefly!

I read the first book in Belle Whittington's trilogy when it first came out and I am happy to say that the follow-up to it, Firefly, was just as thrilling! I'm normally NOT a big sci-fi fan, but it is hard to turn away from such a gripping series as the Cicada Trilogy. There were so many new developments in this book and I was pleased to see the entire cast back, plus a new character. Whittington has a knack for inducing sympathy for the "bad guys", even when you are cheering for your favorites. The result is a roller coaster of emotions that keep you on your toes and the pages turning! I can't wait to see how all of this ends!

Sooooo....It's my second time round reading this novel, and I fell in love with "bug boy" all over again, don'get get me wrong I fell in love with Everett in Cicada, book #1, but I've forgotten all the "fireflies" I get when ready about him and Blair.....I get al goosepimply...if that's even a word.

I'm a bad blogger in forgetting how good the creativity that Belle writes in Firely is, as this is amazing, The past gives us the start of some answers and the present that we know we shall love the most...

Everett;.....This "bug boy", he couldn't get any sexier, he's so dedicated to Blair and their love, he won't let her go without a fight, and a fight he's prepared to fight to his death, if it means he gets to keep his Blair.

Blair;... Her world has changed as she has changed in the most unusual ways. This follows her transformation as a mere human into something more ethereal.

"Leaning back against my bed, I looked around my room, Still a bit stunned, realizing that something in Everett's letter had awakened something inside of me. Something in his letter had brought something to life...something more powerful than I could immediately realize. Something I'm not sure I liked at all. Because it seemed like I was definitely turning into something. Something that was not wholly human." ~Blair

It takes paranormal into a high new level of intrigue and mystery, I loved seeing all the other characters from Cicada, Natalie, David & Andrew, but I felt like Blair was much stronger in this book.

I felt so much for her struggling so hard to figure out what was going on, how she could ever accept it, and how to say goodbye to her past and her dreams for the future.

"I was no longer the changeling Cicada who'd just begun to leave her shell. Neither was I the innocent Firefly flitting through the night, watching from the sidelines. I was a Queen...the Monarch butterfly. And I was ready to spread my wings and soar. ~ Blair

I'm really excited to see where the next book goes, as yet again, I'm left with a lot of questions!

There are many twists and turns in this book. It's hard to know sometimes too, who is good and who isn't. I cannot wait to see what book three will bring!
