Tony de Luca has been a detective for all of 14 hours when he catches his first case, the murder of Deana Fredrickson. Following veteran Ray Bankston's lead he and the team try to unravel the mystery of who would kill the much loved and respected woman. And why?
Ray and Tony soon latch onto the slimmest of threads. Deana's group of girlfriends. The 'Go Girls', a midwestern version of 'real housewives of the Twin Cities' have been taking trips together for years. Vegas. Mexico. LA. With no apparent motive and no suspect, the detectives can only keep digging, trying to get into the lives of the women who were Deana's best friends.
As the ''Go Girls' grudgingly give up details of their travels and adventures Tony and Ray come across a tenuous connection to one of Deana's son's roomates and are reluctantly dragged into the sordid world of pay-per-view internet porn.
Then things get interesting....
Praise for Fred Limberg's debut novel, Ferris'
"There is something sneaky about Fred Limberg's style. It lulls you into a sense of lazy amusement, but there's a sharp hook stuck somewhere in your side that keeps you from relaxing too much."
"There is tragedy and comedy, violence and caring, thrilling action contrasted with quiet moments. I loved the book as I read it and thought about it for days afterward."
"Ferris' Bluff is what I call a word by word book which means I didn't, even once, catch myself skipping through it."
"The unlikely band of heroes will warm your heart while the villains chill your blood. All this is accomplished with humor, pathos, and generally excellent writing skills. Ferris' Bluff is a must read!"
From Amazon reviews of The Storm Glass by Fred
"The Storm Glass has strong characters, excellent setup, and believable interactions. The main character comes across as an updated Travis McGee with a touch of magic."
"The thing I love about good sci-fi is when the 'what if' factor is married with good characterization. This does it hands down. No lame, stilted characters here."
"This would stand alone as an outstanding thriller, but with the...what? Sci-Fi twist? With the sci-fi twist, it puts'The Storm Glass' into a genre league of its own!
Loved this book. Did'nt know who did it till the end, which is the way I like Mystery books to end. This is the first book I've read where the people of interest were a group. And in order to know that, you have to read the book. I feel all the characters make an impact and are hard to forget. I also have to say that Fred has done it again. I'll definitely read everything he writes. I also like how his main characters have a certain something that separates them from the rest. Hard to describe what that is, but it is there.
This was an enjoyable book that resembled a fictionalized 48 hours. A new detective goes on his first murder investigation with his very experienced partner. I felt as if I was discovering things as they discovered them. I did not know who did it until their suspicions zeroed in on the perpetrator. I received this free with my Kindle subscription.
Delightful book. (Yeah, I know. It's a crime book. It should be anything but) The story follows a rookie detective in his first case and it is told with open-eyed candor. Well defined characters and good plot.
Interesting story, likable characters. A bit of shifting from one character's point of view to another's that was a little confusing at times. Looking forward to more by Limberg.
Give this one 3 1/2 stars really. Pretty good mystery that follows a young police detective on his first murder assignment. He does okay with a difficult case.
