Darlene Carter-O'Brennan has never attended public school, and she's pretty sure she will have nothing in common with the average Bangor High student. Her mother's career in soap operas and a life of private tutors and worldly travel have spoiled Darlene for the high school experience. Worst of all, Maine seems to be a cultural void. Boredom is inevitable.
The game changes when Darlene asks her parents to go to the Young Artist Workshop at the Louvre during winter break, so she can at least have something to look forward to. The argument with Daddy turns into a hasty and ridiculous bet: if Darlene can become the most popular girl at Bangor High by Christmas, she can go to Paris.
Ridiculosity has never stopped Darlene before, and Google has all of the answers she needs. By tapping into the alpha psychology of wolf packs and the principal of least interest, Darlene works to dominate the popular cliques.
Witness as Darlene encounters sneaky uses of lemon squares, the ugly hat trick, doorways of unusual sizes, a band in need of a catchy name, the just-hugged feeling, a cheerleader emergency, and two cases of pancake trickery...
