My Rating: ★★
Book Description:
Whisper has always been in the shadow of her slimmer, sexier best friend. She doesn't expect that to change the night the two meet her tall, dark, and mysterious neighbor across the hall. At first sight, Alec doesn't appear to want anything to do with either one of them. He's too busy breaking the apartment building's rules about no pets. Whisper can't believe the size of Alec's pet leopard, one that quickly becomes attached to her. When Alec offers her five dates to put out or walk away, Whisper can't bring herself to be offended. The man is crazy. His pet has the same name as his twin brother, and what they do in the park at night should have her running in the opposite direction. Alec might be much more than a girl can handle no matter how bad she wants it.
My Thoughts:
Unfortunately, the story was a bit lack luster and it was a very basic shifter story with no action and a vanilla romance. I didn't hate the story but it could have only benefited from the removal of Sheila who only added a trite and unnecessary element to the story. Max was caring and funny once he got over himself. Alex was not convincing as the brooding and moody shifter. And Whisper...I had no feeling for at all.
The story line with Whisper's boss was started but not finished. It seemed as if that story line was supposed to be more with him making half-hearted advances on her and with him knowing Alex's last name, without the benefit of being told it. However, that thread was not tied off but left open. It felt like an unfinished and incomplete thought. There should have been some conclusion to it or it just shouldn't have been mentioned.
The story just wasn't very compelling. A story has to engage me in some capacity and this story just didn't do it for me. And for the $4.99 price tag it really should have been a lot better. It wasn't my cuppa tea on this one.
