By day, I am a middle school teacher. I spend much of my time grading papers, filling out paperwork, and trying to get 6th- and 7th- graders to read.

When I am not at work, I can generally be found at the computer, dreaming up stories about men falling in love. When I have spare time (which is unfortunately not too often anymore!) I read romance of all kinds. Occasionally I pretend to do housework, but my hubby isn't fooled!

This review you're about to enjoy is told in three parts:

If you have a sense of humor read part one.
If you prefer something more serious read part two
If you don't like to read, but like pictures skip to part three
If you are brave and like all of the above read one through three...
  ...Read at your own risk...
Part One: Explosive Sock Puppetism

Fabulous
U should read this ASAP
Creative
Kick ass
Intense (like OMFG intense)
New lovable characters
Gooder (take that English) than the first book!

Astonishing
Wonderful
Elijah was so adorable and sweet
Sophisticated
OMG said that a lot reading it)
Made me smile
Evan is just amazing

Words considered but not used above: Timeless, extraordinary, masterpiece, pee your pants anticipation, had me gagging for more (that's a gay oral sex pun from a size queen, laugh bitches), Fun, great, gays on a road trip that was just a circle (brings to mind an old joke)... You probably get the point.......

Part Two: Review With Sentences, not necessarily grammatically correct

If you can't tell I absolutely love this book. It was a great sequel and I loved it, more than the first book. Loved the two guys, especially poor Evan.

The book starts of fast and never slows down. It kept an intense pace and kept surprising me. Especially at the end. I wasn't expecting that at all. I'm already anxious for the next book. I don't even care who it is about I'm just excited for it.

I don't want to add any spoilers but read this story. It really was awesome. While I loved the first book it was a little slow in the beginning while this book is a lot quicker with a lot more suspense and a little more action.

It was a very entertaining read. I know this part of the review is a little weak but hopefully the pictures make up for it.

Part Three: Sexy/Funny Pictures

Cassandra Gold never lets me down. Not once. With this book, she proves again why she is one of my favorite (and auto-buy) authors. By the way, you all might want to read Bubbles's review first. Mine is all letters (and boring); he has pictures!! :p

Evan is being framed as traitor and when he runs away from The Institute, he is quickly kidnapped and tortured (with graphic impressions from other people being tortured and murdered). Evan manages to escape though, and in his attempt to run, he sort of kidnaps Elijah so they can leave together using Elijah's car. On the run, Evan and Elijah develops feeling for one another except Elijah has a secret that might shatter the relationship.

I agree that this book is better than the previous one. It practically opens with a choc of action, that pulls me in immediately. It has fast pace and I never feel bored. Sure, there's slowing down moment, like when Evan and Elijah are resting on a motel -- but the pace never drags on.

In book #1, Healer, Evan is described as "the most powerful psychometrist the Institute has ever had. Poor guy can't touch anything or anyone without getting flashes of the past, present, or future". Here, we see how his power has kept Evan alone all of his life. He cannot touch other people (or thing) without wearing gloves. Because of that, Elijah is so perfect for him (Elijah's power reminds me of Allyson James's Nash from her Stormwalker series). But it's not just because of Elijah's power -- he is so calm and is the right man to handle Evan.

If I have complaint, I think Elijah is slightly underdeveloped compared to Evan. Yes, Elijah has daddy issues which drives him to be the kind person that he is. But other than that, he is a little bit plain compared to Evan. Another complaint will be how the climax is, when Evan and Elijah confront the villain. It lacks of BANG, you know?

But no matter, they are just so wonderful together. The sex scenes are sweet without feeling like a manual (or ritual) I often find. Thanks for another great story, Ms. Gold. I hope you write more about the characters from The Institute ...

I liked this book much better than the first one, even though I really did love Cam and Tristan. But Evan, there is just something about him that makes you want to wrap him up and protect him. His life was horrible: his past, childhood, parents, no friends, locked up, etc...you name it, he's suffered.
I could not think of a better partner for him then Elijah. What a good, kind soul he is, and exactly what Evan needed.

The story starts off with a bang and doesn't settle down until it's over. It's a very fast read even though it's not a short story. I love when that happens.

There is mystery, intrigue, kidnapping, torture, but also, love, sweetness, and a happy ending.

Wow, this was a fun story!

...and way much better than the first book. It was fast paced and I adored both Evan and Elijah; both were a little sad and geeky. Still, there was some insta-love, but it didn't really bother me this time because I felt like the characters really connected and cared for each other.

The plot was also better; faster paced with more twisty surprises.  I was really into it. There seemed to be some inconsistencies with Elijah's power, but that can be forgiven.
My biggest issue seemed to be that both characters' names began with "E" and it caused me a lot of confusion. Looking forward to the next book.

I enjoyed this one even more than the first book. It started off strong and kept a fast pace that had me quickly turning the pages in fear of what would happen next. My heart immediately went out to Evan because of how lonely and isolated he was. He couldn't even have the comfort of a simple touch because of the often horrifying impressions and emotions he would pickup through those touches. The way he was set up and betrayed (which really made me want to kick a certain someone's ass), and then soon after abducted and tortured, would have even the strongest person at their breaking point. But not Evan. With the help of Elijah, who was so compassionate and sweet (even though he was technically Evan's hostage), Evan was able to escape and even make plans for later rescuing the other unfortunate captives. I loved the slow build of their trust and tender love and especially the discovery of the special gift Elijah was able to bring to Evan's life. They really were so perfect for each other. It was great to see Cam, Tristan and some of the others again from the Institute, and I also enjoyed the new characters as well. I'm really looking forward to future stories in this well-done series. The only reason I knocked off half a star was because after all the buildup, I expected Jedidiah Wexler to be more cunning and put up more of a fight at the end. The resolution almost seemed too easy, but having said that I suspect we haven't seen the last of him by a long shot. More please!

2012 Review:

One of the absolutely worst things about good books is that you have to leave them behind eventually. Oh, I am not heartbroken the way I used to be in my teens (and even a bit later) when I finished a book I wanted to keep reading on and on because I loved it so much. This one I love, but these days my heartbreak is restricted to stuff that happens inside those books, and the real world.

Anyway, getting off track.

I knew I would most likely be enthusiastic about this one. For one thing, it was what prompted me to pick the series up in the first place; secondly one of the main characters was my favourite secondary char from the first volume. And it played out wonderfully. I had tense times while I worried , plus something at some other point that I’ve forgotten now, but this time there was no gut-wrenching tragedy like in the last one. Not complaining either way, although I certainly did not need to be put through the emotional wringer twice in one day. ^^

Man, this was nice. I want more, damn it!
This is a very good author and I love her stories and the way she handles her characters and generally the whole attitude she displays. It certainly does not hurt either that she is a pretty impressive writer. So all I am left with now, besides the fuzzy glow of happiness, is the need for more!
In particular, I hope the author writes more of this series.

I enjoyed it. Touch is a good second release in the series. It starts off pretty quickly and maintains a steady pace, there's a smooth flow from one scene to scene, and the writing remain tight with good character development. I like Evan and Eli. These two guys are very different in all aspects of their lives--at least on the surface, but underneath, where it's important, they mesh well. Despite what looks like an initial mismatch the author has created a couple the gives exactly what the other needs.

The paranormal part of the story is the backbone but it doesn't overwhelm. The growing relationship of Evan and Eli--even while on the run--still takes center stage. But she weaves the two into a whole that's both well timed and believable. And the author did it while keeping me guessing about the direction of the plot. I love that.

I was hoping we'd learn more about the Delphic Institute but since most of the story took place off-campus that didn't happen. I was glad to see more about the Sameal Organization and it's leader. A true villain.

It's...not bad?

Parts of it were quite good. And then parts were cringe-worthy. And there was one party that was lather-rinse-repeat of bk 1. Almost word for word, if my impressions are correct.

It gets a bit better, though.
I like the way Evan's POV was worked, although sometimes it got a little melodramatic.

Overall, though, this one was rather well-crafted. I think I rather liked it.

This was a quick read. I really liked it as the second book to the series. It wasn't as suspenseful as the first one, but it was still exciting. I am glad that Elijah's identity didn't mess everything up for the couple. I would love to read more about other characters from the institution. This series is really good!

I’m officially hooked on this series! It’s no secret that I adored the first book, but somehow Ms. Gold made me love Touch even more! What I loved about this book was: even though there were so many twists and turns in the plot that kept me on the edge of my seat, it’s still heavy on the romance. It’s honestly a perfect blend of mystery and romance that left me addicted to the story from the first page to the last word, and it left me with a big smile on my face. I don’t want to spoil anything, so I’m going to tread lightly with my review and hopefully I won’t give anything away.

Evan Holloway is one of the characters in the first book, Healer. Evan has the gift of touch. When he touches an object or a person he sees visions of their pain and life. Because of this, his parents thought he was mentally ill. We learn that for most of his teenaged years, he spent a lot of time in and out of mental institutions and has a deep fear of them. Several years ago, he was rescued by the people of the Delphic Institute and taken under their wing. He helps others with his gift, but he has to wear gloves to keep himself from being overwhelmed by from he reads from others.

Evan heavily relies on living at the institute. He has his routines and the people he trusts. When he finds out that he’s been accused of doing something he didn’t do, Evan is encouraged to run away, and in his desperation and fear, he does so. Soon, he’s kidnapped by people who want to use his gift for evil and put into a secret wing of a mental institution. He’s drugged and they try to brainwash him into helping them out. Instead, Evan becomes determined to leave and manages to escape. On his way out, he sees a man getting into his car, and he manages to grab the man, kidnap him and force him to give him a ride. He soon finds out his captor is Dr. Elijah Wexler who is a psychiatrist from the facility. As much as Evan wants to hate Elijah, he can’t. He quickly realizes that Elijah has nothing to do with what’s happened to him, nor does he know what’s going on at the mental institute. Before they know it a bond starts forming between them, and Elijah and Evan start to communicate and trust each other. But, as they continue to grow closer together, they know they’re in danger and know they must stop the evil madman who runs the facility before anyone else gets hurt.

I LOVED LOVED LOVED this book! It’s one of my favorites that I’ve read this year. Between the well-thought out plotline and the strong characterization, it was one of those books that I couldn’t put down, and when it was over, I wanted to read it again. Ms. Gold really understands her characters very well. They come across as real people with real problems. Yes, it’s a fantasy romance, but they still read like everyday people with flaws and all. They are not perfect, and they make mistakes, but with the power of love, they grow and flourish into better men.

I highly recommend this series! It’s one of my favorites and as far as I’m concerned, Ms. Gold cannot write another book fast enough! It’s earned a firm spot on my keeper shelf where I know I’ll re-read it again and again. Even though you probably could get away with reading Touch as a stand-alone book, I don’t recommend it. To truly understand the dynamics between the characters and the works of the Delphic Institute, I recommend reading these books in series order.

Here are the Institute books in series order:

Trust is not easily won, especially when you've been given multiple reasons not to trust anyone. However, what happens when you have no choice? What happens if your life depends upon trusting a virtual stranger? Do you go by past experience or do you rely on what your instincts tell you? This is a question that both Elijah and Evan must face in 'Touch' by Cassandra Gold. What they decide will seal their fate.

I really admire Evan. When he was introduced in the first book, 'Healer', my heart went out to Evan. Behind his stand-offish behavior is obviously not an anti-social person by choice, but someone in pain. Touch is such an essential human need. It's message to from and to the person touched conveys so much—love, security, acceptance, comfort, and peace. I'm a toucher and the idea of having to shield myself, physically and mentally from tactile experience is one of the most painful things I can imagine. Even after all the horrible experiences Evans had, he's never given up. He's learned to protect himself in whatever way possible. Being at the Institute is a refuge; it's given him the safety net he needs to at least to be settled if not truly happy. What he needs most is someone he can be with without the nightmares of memories assaulting him, but, in his mind, this isn't possible.

Elijah is a perfect example of how an apple can fall far from a tree. Even though his father is a horrible person, Elijah is a good, kind man with a wonderful sense of moral integrity. When he meets Evan, he sees beyond his more than questionable exterior and gives him the benefit of the doubt. Evan really needs someone to believe in him and Elijah's reaction to him gives him hope. Elijah continues to stand by Evan through their transition from kidnapper and victim to friends and lovers. I'm not always a fan of a couple falling in love so fast, but these two were thoroughly convincing. Elijah is so brave, weathering, not just the storms created by Evan's abilities, but defying his father and ultimately facing Evan's friends at the Institute, knowing because of who he is, he may not be welcome. That takes real courage.

Although this is the second book in The Institute series, 'Touch' can be read alone but it will be harder to follow without the background information found in the first book, including the characters who are introduced in the first installment. To fully feel the impact of the story, it's advisable to read the books sequentially. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It has everything a good story should have: angst, intrigue, villains, heroes, super powers, sensuality, love, and a happy ending all wrapped up in a well-written, fast-paced, enjoyable story. I recommend it to everyone who likes a story where the good guys come out on top, and, of course, there are huge hints of more to come. Thank you, Cassandra! I can hardly wait until the next book is finished.

3.5-4 stars. Sequel to “Healer,” which was #1 in Gold’s new “The Institute” adventure-romance series that involves people with special abilities. (Sort of like a more adult X-Men with m/m romance plotlines.)

I really enjoyed the first book, and I recommend reading that one first before reading “Touch.” The characters of Cam and Tristan in “Healer” were interesting and sympathetic, and I really liked their chemistry and the relationship that developed. (I also really appreciated Cam’s inner conflict, even though he didn’t always deal with it well. It was easy to understand his fear of showing Tristan his true self.)

This second installment follows Evan, another operative at the institute whose ability is that he is able to sense things through touch. The problem is that this ability is often very overwhelming for him, and prior to the institute, he had been institutionalized by his family because it was assumed that he was mentally ill.

Touch starts out very quickly, as Evan flees the Institute after being warned that he was being framed as a traitor. Things then get much worse as the Institute’s main competition kidnaps him. He eventually is able to escape, thanks to grabbing Elijah, a psychologist at the organization. Together they hit the road as Evan figures out what his next step is, and who framed him in the first place.

This was an overall fun read, and I liked the fast pacing. My main complaint is that Evan and Elijah’s relationship felt more colorless than Cam and Tristan’s in the first book, and I had a hard time in general pinning down Elijah’s character. I wish there was more richness or development there.

Without revealing too much, I did like how Elijah “fit” with Evan though; I thought that development made the relationship very meaningful, especially for Evan who for so long didn’t think getting together with anyone would be really possible. I do wish some more time was spent on the question/fear at the end when Elijah wonders if Evan really would stick with him even if things didn’t “fit” so well between them. I wouldn’t have minded some more time or development there.

It also felt like some of the focus had been taken off the main couple near the end with the introduction of some new characters. (My guess is some of them may star in the next volume.) I personally wouldn’t mind another book with Cam and Tristan since I really liked their dynamic, but even if the next story focuses on new characters, I’m still on board with checking it out since I overall enjoyed the world that Gold is building with this series.

This is definitely Cassandra Gold's best book yet. I really liked the first book in this series. I freaking LOVED this one. It's got plenty of action, but is still character and romance driven. Elijah and Evan are just amazing. I love everything about them. I love the story, I love the action, I love the world Gold has created. Even her secondary characters are amazing. I cannot wait for the next book. Cassandra Gold is definitely going on my list of all-time favorite authors, and I really hope she is working on another Institute book!

I could probably dither on for hours about how much I love this book and these characters, but I'll setting for just saying: read it. It is totally, 100% worth it. I bought it at 2 am and finished it by 5 am. I already know I'll be reading it again and again.

Oh it was great!
I fell in love at first sight with Evan since the first book and I was dying to know more about him.
I've read most of the book, And their interations were amazing, yeah I kinda a sucker for the kidnapper and kidnapped sort of situatio without the stckhom Sydrome my only complain was the lack of interation abot Eli and his father, I would have liked to know more about them and about the lack of continuation after they arrived the institute. While in the first book, showed so much that became boring, in this I missed it. I'd loved to see more about how Eli dealt with the others and made friends(more explicity than only saying he did). And would have been nice to seem more of Cam and Tristan, I felt some of their issues could have been more explored in this book as well.
Well great read anyway. 3.5 Stars.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one, and it made me glad all over again that I didn't give up on book 1.

I loved getting to know Evan better, and understanding more of his history and his reasons for being so closed-off from his colleagues. Elijah was perfect: sweet and patient and kind and understanding. I loved getting to see the two of them learn to trust each other.

I still wish it had been explained where all of these abilities are coming from--why some people develop them, and how it's been kept so secret if so many people seem to know about it.

Other than that, this was a fun and exciting installment in what is looking to be a delightful series.

Although this book did not pull me in as much as the first on all levels, it did address some desires that I had from the first.

The action was more frequent, and the use of talents increased. There was something off with the two MC, but once I gave up on figuring out what the problem was, everything went great. I think this is definitely a worthwhile sequel and I do hope the series continues. :)

I liked the story, but mostly the ending(so sweet).
Evan was a little late figuring out(I began to get suspicions why pretty early) that it was Elijah making his power you know.. but I guess when it's you, you don't exactly see it unless it's in front of your eyes. Somehow it didn't add up to five stars. Overall, I liked both characters, but maybe they weren't strong(not literally) enough for me and their chemistry was there, but not potent.
