Kaelan, the mysterious prince of the ice dragon shifters, never notices the women who fawn over him.

But he notices me. When the spy guild I work for assigns me to steal from him, his arrogant, maddening best friend, Thorne, catches me.

In retaliation, Kaelan forces me to pose as his adoring fiancé and future queen. Even though he knows I fantasize about murdering him in his sleep.

We have history. Kaelan was my first kiss—and my worst shame. The last time I saw him, he told me he could never bring such a weak princess home to be his queen. He doesn’t remember what really happened during our last days together.

And of course, Kaelan won’t tell me the real reasons he’s chosen me. Or why, when we arrive at his castle, I walk right into the Bride Trials he forgot to mention. Now I have to compete for a husband I don’t even want.

I also have to evade Kaelan’s best friends. Dare, the game master for the trials, is brilliant and dangerous. Thorne, the warrior who barely talks to me, always seems to be in the shadows, protecting me.

Can I unlock Kaelan’s curse and let these men finally see me as I truly am—and as their queen?

Read Heart of Ice now to escape into a world where love triangles don’t have to exist, dragon shifters rule the skies, and cocky Fae princes always crumble… eventually.

Mystery, intrigue and 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Hanna was such a joy to read. She was so strong and smart and sarcastic. She knew when to back talk and run into danger and when to not. It never got annoying. She was also very relatable, feeling like she was constantly living in her sisters shadows.

I’m glad there was the prologue for Kaelan because he’s got some serious groveling to do. Dare as well. Iffy on him. But really liked reading about Thorne. Hope to see more of him in book 2.

I’m not too much of an amnesia trope fan, but this was done well, and it was important to the story. That said, I really do hope there’s some way for the memories to be recovered.

Ahh we have to wait after that cliffy! Hanna better choose right 😋

2.5 because…what?

There are so many bits and pieces I enjoyed, but also so many things that don’t quite make sense. The shifting and magic system doesn’t seem fully developed and organized and rules seem to enter and leave based on convenience to the story.

And don’t get me started on the world’s best spy who admittedly is caught constantly, the most powerful shifter who never shifts or uses magic, and the girl who can DEFINITELY always save herself but makes absolutely no effort to do so? I get that we’re going for a kicka** FMC. But…she actually has to DO something to be deserving of that title. I would have much rather her been branded with the spoiled princess moniker and over the course of the book come into her powers and strengths vs her fighting against the moniker all book while simultaneously proving it correct.

Heart of Ice is the first book in the Royal Ice Dragons. This is a spin-off of Dragon Royals series and takes place after the events of the Dragon Royals series. While it's not necessary to read the previous series, it is highly recommended.

MAY DAWSON HAS A NEW SERIES!!! This This is Honor’s younger sister, Hanna's story. I'm not too big on the Amnesia trope, this was very well done and quite enjoyable. From the very beginning, I was immediately drawn in and Hanna was such likable character. I swear, Kaelan and Hanna's banter was everything and the same with Thorne and Dare. Definitely looking forward to the next book!!

I feel many things about the book.

1. The author made a slip up on page 443 by using “Honor” instead of “Hanna.” Immediately, this threw me off and removed me from the scene—especially since Hanna’s character struggles living in the shadow of her older sister, and now we see the author slip up during a pivotal moment?? I felt slighted on Hanna’s behalf, though logically I understand it’s a simple mistake.

2. I’m personally not a fan of dubious consent or trickery in regard to sex. The scene where Kaelan gets intimate with Hanna while she’s shielding her real identity was icky for me.

3. I understand that Thorne has Kaelan’s past memories, but I don’t understand how. I suppose this will be explained in the next book. However, while reading the ending, I was so confused. I’d argue my confusion was stronger than my shock.

4. Speaking of the ending, I didn’t fully comprehend how Hanna was suddenly okay with Kaelan’s lack of memories. Two quotes state, “He didn’t have his memories, and he never would. But our love had conquered those shadows” and “Even without his memories, he’d desired me. Chosen me. Loved me.” Yet, did he prove himself?? Hanna was the one who returned to the Ice Kingdom to continue fighting in the trials.

5. Additionally, it felt too quick for Hanna to accept Kaelan without his memories. She started professing how it no longer mattered because he all of a sudden expressed his love without barbed words?? It’d been one day, if that. I think this sudden acceptance made Thorne’s revelation lesser because if Hanna’s supposedly over it, why should we care?

Overall, I did enjoy the book. I enjoyed the vulnerability Hanna carries. She’s not sassy to the point of flanderizarion. She’s a well-rounded character. I especially loved the small details of her maintaining her princess etiquette.

Wow. I finished the book. That's the best thing I can say about it. This book was immature, bipolar, confusing, etc. It needed a good edit. There was no real connection with any of the characters. No more for me.

Shame on me for not considering how many ARC readers left reviews. It always skews the curve.

I only have one thing to say ...
How many times can she be on the brink of death and choose not to use her powers, even when doing so would SAVE HER LIFE. So dumb, she just came off as another dumb, weak, impotent character.

Kaelan and Hanna were just ice and fire! The back and forth between these two was just perfection! Hanna, who loves her family and is doing everything to protect them, wants to not live in her sister’s shadow. Kaelan, the dragon prince of the Ice Fae, needs Hanna to pretend to love him so he can get the throne from his father. Hanna is thrown into a set of trials to see if she is worthy of marrying the prince. So many secrets that everyone is keeping and who is trying to sabotage Hanna? We also meet Kaelan’s best friends Thorne and Dare and the tension is hot! So excited for the second book!

Can someone give May Dawson a proper editor, please. This book suffers from the same problems as the whole Honor series. I love the premise of it, I really like the characters, and the romance is great. However, this story has so many holes in the plot that you could start selling it as Emmentaler, my god. So many scenes don't properly connect, the magic/shifting doesn't quite make sense, and why is Hanna suddenly in love with Thorne after barely interacting with him and almost no alone time to forge a connection. This book has so much potential to be amazing, but it fell so flat.

Overall the book was good but it definitely has some issues. I don’t know if this book was self published or what but there are quite a few things that need to be edited. There were missing words. Sentences didn’t make sense at times. The author said Honor instead of Hanna. Also the author typed Hannah and then Hanna. Which way is it supposed to be spelled? I think that the plot was exciting. It didn’t just take place in one setting. There was a lot of travel and different characters. I really liked the forest challenge where they faced their fears. I think there were some weird continuity issues happening. Kaelan feels less developed than all of the other characters. Even though it is dual POV Kaelan’s pov doesn’t really share anything but his fear and longing for Hanna. At least with Thorne we learn more about his background and upbringing. I’m slightly annoyed that the author keeps mentioning that Kaelan and Hanna are powerful but then they can’t defeat Kuria and her mother. Also I feel like that plot point came out of nowhere. It would be plausible for the nobility to want to take over but there has been no mention of it prior. No whispering of a coup. I think the whole idea of Kaelan believing his father when he said his mother ran away is a little improbable. Kaelan knows his father is a monster. Why would he believe his dad would let his mother go? I really liked the underground society of peasants. The market seemed so lively. I would have liked Hanna to get to explore that place more. The author made it a point to ask why the Ice Fae had abandoned the old castle for the new. It seemed like something important so I hope that is tackled in the second book. Also I don’t understand how Thorne would get Kealan’s memories if Hanna is the one who performed the spell. Also why is Thorne taking Hanna away from Kaelan? The spice in this book was good. It was pretty detailed and adventurous. The time that they get together on the throne when Thorne is fighting in the arena was great! I am looking forward to Hanna getting with everyone.

Brilliant beginning!
So this book focuses on Hanna and the role she can play in staving of the Snake Queen 😬
It starts with a snippet into her past and the relationship she had with Kaelan and the sacrifices she makes sets up this whole story 🙈
Fast forward five years and any love between them has long been forgotten…
Yet they cannot deny the pull between them and when both their isles are at risk from the Snake Queen, as royalty they have a duty to uphold….although there’s certainly a battle of wills in coming to said agreement. With a ‘forced marriage’ contract in place Kaelan cannot dent his feelings for Hanna but has to force them down and place the needs of his country first - it doesn’t help that upon their arrival back in the isle Hanna is forced into a series of bride trials to prove her worth and the hand of the prince 😡😡 yet it appears somebody is absolutely out for Hanna throughout these trials 😮
Thankfully she’s got a devoted supporter in Thane, Kaelans best friend, who really helps Hanna understand who she is and what she deserves 🥰 oh and then there’s Dare Kaelans other bestie who appears to instantly dislike Hanna and loves to antagonise her…although she certainly gives back as good as she gets!! Between the three of them there’s absolutely tension brewing, some of it serious and a lot of it chemistry 🥵🥵
There’s a great mix of angst and tension woven throughout with intense 🌶 scenes dripped in throughout! And honestly you think it’s all going to work coming to that ending and then wham …. What a shocker - can’t wait for the next one!

I cannot even express how excited I was for this realize and much I loved this book. I adored Hanna’s sisters Honor and her infuriating men but Hanna and her men have quickly stolen my heart. Poor Hanna does so much to protect her sister and their family but seems to want to do it without any praise or assistance. She loves them but hates that they worry about her so much and feels like she needs to live up to their very high standard. They are all hero’s and she just wants to make them proud but on her terms. Then there’s the infuriating Ice Fae prince Kaelan that seems to both love and hate her all in one breath. They have history that seems to be clouding his judgment of her but he needs her help and essentially tricks her into coming home with him to compete to be his bride. Along the way she meets his cousin and best friend Thorne as well as his second best friend Dare. Thorne seems instantly smitten with her and tries to help her as much as he can. Dare seems standoffish with her and it makes me wonder what he’s hiding. In the end we are left with an absolutely heart breaking cliffhanger having me wonder what she will choose.
Overall I do love that Hanna has finally got her own story and that she is as fierce and fiery as her sister. She will need it to deal with her Ice prince and his two best friends. It was also an absolute delight to get to see Honor and her men again and their growing family of children. I do hope we might get more of them in the next books. I’ll be waiting as patiently as I can to see how the next book unfolds and see if my guess at her choice is right

This is the start of Hanna’s story. Those who’ve read the “Dragon Royals” series already met her as Honor’s younger sister. It’s not necessary to read the Dragon Royals series first, but it might take away a bit of your reading enjoyment if you decide to read this series first. If you plan on reading both, I would suggest starting with Honor’s storyline.

Even though Hanna has a big family, I get the impression she feels lonely most of the time. That’s mostly the case because she decided to take on a mission to protect others, without wanting to reveal this to anyone. As a result, she doesn’t have anyone to talk to, no one who knows about her reasoning and why she makes the decisions she does, … Looking at her like that, it helps to understand why she wears such a big shield around herself, and why her personality isn’t built on being instantly likable. She’s one of those fmc’s that needs to grow on you, but has the potential to ultimately become a true favorite.

I have a harder time knowing how I feel about the men. On the one hand, they aren’t always the nicest towards Hanna. On the other, Hanna isn’t always kind to them either. It never becomes too much, it’s more like they seem to bring out the worst in the other, resulting in a lot of pushing and pulling and complicated relationship building. I feel like I need the second book to be truly able to say something about the three friends. After that cliffhanger at the end, I’m definitely happy book two is already out.

This is a sequel to the Dragon Royals series picking up about eighteen years after the conclusion. It picks up with Hanna, Honor’s younger sister, and Kaelan, the Ice Fae prince, as they face a difficult decision. It would be good (and great fun) to read the Dragon Royal series first for the backstory, characters, and universe. Be sure to watch for the Point of View changes at the chapter breaks; it will be confusing if you don’t.
Then five years later, Hanna is trying to find and eliminate threats to the Isle her sister, brothers-in-law, and niblings. She is trying to infiltrate the Spy Guild of Theseus but is caught during an assignment that could cause a diplomatic blow-up, which could cause the Ice Kingdom to ally with the Snake Queen to attack the Dragon Isle. She has many exciting, almost-deadly adventures as she goes to the Ice Kingdom to win Kaelan’s hand in marriage and tries to win back Kaelan's love. She meets his best friends, Dare and Thorne, and feels an attraction to both. She’s surrounded by enemies who want her dead. With Kaelan, it’s an enemies-to-lovers variation; Hanna alters Kaelan’s memory to hate her, and Hanna is constantly reminded that he once loved her as she loves him. They seem to despise each other, trading insults and snark, despite their intense mutual attraction and frequent explicit sex. There is somewhat of a cliffhanger ending and there will be a Book 2….

first things first, hellllllo dad aged branok & lynx- now excusing my thirst for those boys from dragon royals. i am enchanted by hanna's story so far. the struggles she faces while pretending to be okay are heart tugging & powerful emotionally. i absolutely love how she interacts with her nibblings too. seeing honor's men interacting with hanna was amusing but also i found myself shaking my head specially at jaik- he will never learn but thats ok we love him anyway and his obliviousness. when the book started the prologue was so worth it while also unexpected, honestly the prologue is information i would've expected to get around maybe book 3 or 4. i am super glad we got it early cause it made kaelan more bearable lol. i loved thorne- at the moment he's my favorite of the guys. i'm still unsure on my opinion of dare, but i agree with hanna that he's fun to mess with. this story was a big emotional ride, even more than honor's was in dragon royals. i think though a lot of that is more to do with the fact that hanna's struggles hit home more. with her trying to protect her family in secret but also feeling smoth ered by existing in their shadows so to speak. even more so with the fact they seem obvious too it and think she's just being rebellious to be rebellious. i can not wait to see where this series takes us for this universe in all honesty.

An awesome intro into Hanna's story! The little sister of Honor is all grown up and dealing with her own boy drama and finding herself. Hanna struggles with her own identity in the wake of Honor's success. She is the princess, Honor's litter sister, she shouldn't have to fight. However, Hanna feels differently. In order to save Honor's little family, Hanna lies and goes in deep undercover with the Guild to find out who is out to ruin her family. The only person who knows is Kaelan, the Ice Fae prince.
5 years after wiping Kaelan's memory of their time together, Kaelan returns. Things get real interesting upon his return. This prince absolutely drove me crazy. Even knowing that his memory was tainted by Hanna's spell, this man is cruel, but also obsessed. I loved every minute of the intense feelings, banter, and insults between Hanna and Kaelan. Even with Dare and Thorne. Thorne being my favorite in this book.
The world building, character development, plot, twists and turns were all fantastic. The cliff was a bit of a shock. I truly did not see that coming and was left yelling at my book and questioning EVERYTHING!!
You don't need to read Honor's story to read this one, but I highly recommend it to fully understand the context and things that are happening.

This book started out with a bit of a backstory that really set the tone for the rest of the book which May always has a way of tying everything together that makes you want to keep reading and seeing what may happen next.

I loved seeing Hanna explore things with Kaelan, who remembers nothing from their past, as well as Thorne, who's silent but, always seem to be there for her, and maybe even Dare, the sparky yet loveable friend of Kaelans. It wouldn't be May without leaving the female heroine without her different options. It probably will NOT be Threes a Crowd for long! I have to say though, Thorne was my absolute favorite throughout the book. You'll see what I'm talking about when you start reading it too!

Some of my favorite quotes:

•“Just do your best to resist snuggling with me.” He scoffed. “Ice Fae don’t snuggle.” “We’ll see.” I smiled at him.

•Hanna wasn’t my true love. It went beyond that. She was my obsession. She was in my bones.

From the romance to action, you'll find this story just about has everything you need in a book!

The story did end on a bit of a cliffhanger so I can't wait to see what happens next in this series!!!

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "HEART OF ICE"
This is a great interesting, intriguing, entertaining, paranormal romance, full of secrets, sabatoge, danger, struggles, memory loss, steam, twists that keeps you turning the pages to this very addicting read.
Kaelan is the Ice Fae Prince who needs Hanna to help him even though he seems to both love & hate her they have history, he gets her to come home with him to compete to become his bride, she meets his cousin & BF's Thorne who likes her alot & Dare who seems a bit off like he's hiding something.
I definitely recommend to get this exciting story seeing Hanna surrounded by enemies that want her dead, Hanna did something to Kaelan's memory to make him hate her, a reminder to her they once loved each other, even so their intense attraction to one another is mutual, their scorching hot steamy scenes.
I'm so looking forward to "HEART OF DECEIT" after that cliffhanger need ASAP to see what happens next
EXCELLENT START TO THIS AMAZING, INTENSE, PARANORMAL ROMANCE SERIES 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

We finally get to see Hanna’s story! It’s very interesting to see Hanna’s perspective of her big sister Honor & the events that unfolded during Honor’s series. Having grown up in her sister’s shadow has definitely impacted Hanna, and I enjoyed seeing the realistic nature of that family relationship play out throughout the book.

While trying to establish & prove herself within the spy guild, Hanna’s thrown headlong into a situation with her ex, and her world changes overnight. Taken to Kaelan’s kingdom, she’s shocked to find herself already entered into a bride trial, where she’s competing to become Kaelan’s wife. Unfortunately, someone takes umbrage to Hanna’s entrance in the trials, to the point that they are trying to kill her. Hanna has to use every skill she’s learned at Posselbaum Academy & the spy guild - as well as being a princess in her kingdom - to figure out who wants her dead & why. Not only that, but how will she protect her heart from Kaelan - and maybe his best friends?

I’m excited to see what happens in book 2!

I've actually been excited to get to know Hanna more since we originally met her in Honor's books. She's always been in the background, shadowed by her sister but in this book, she gets to take the lead and we find out a lot about her. There were a few issues such as the author calling Hanna by Honor's name accidentally and I admit it did throw me out of the scene a little but I'm sure the author will get this fixed as soon as she can so don't let this small thing put you off.

I actually adore Hanna, she's kick butt, sassy and her scenes with Kaelan are oh so spicy. Their relationship is definitely interesting and I'm not sure if I'm the only one but I'd love to see some stuff happen between her, Thorne and Dare especially after the reveal we got at the end of book one.

I'd say this is a sort of friends to lovers, that becomes enemies to lovers and maybe it will bring itself back to friends to lovers once we get further into the story. Can't wait to see where book two takes us on Hanna's journey, but I'll gladly tag along for the ride.

Tantalizing

As usual, I enjoyed Ms. Dawson's first in a series. Magic and romance. The story follows Honor's younger sister, Hanna, or Hannah depending on where you are in the book. She has grown up and become involved in a very confusing relationship with the Prince of Ice. The prologue describes their deep love and a decision to magically wipe it from his mind to protect her kingdom from his evil, overbearing father. Hanna believes that if he truly loves her he will again, despite the memory wipe. He however had cruel memories implanted which conflicts with his emotions. His two best friends portray a possibility of a rh in the future, but this book mainly involves the two star crossed lovers sniping at each other between kisses. The underlying story is quite riveting, with bad guys, magic, shifting and mystery abounding; in the trope of the princess having to compete in trials to win the Prince's hand in marriage. There a ton of unanswered questions which lead me to want to continue when the next books are published.

Heart of Ice is part of the dragon royals series starring Hanna. As a spy craftsman her life has been dedicated to protecting her sister and their family. Working with the spy guild, she has her loyalties tested. With lots of self doubt and worried about the life she lives in her sister’s shadow, you just ache for Hanna and all that she’s been through. Enter the Ice Prince Kaelan, Hanna’s former lover, and now emissary from the Fae lands. Though no longer together they cannot keep themselves apart. Both have separate agendas that require them to work together. Will the achieve their goals or will they sabatoge each other? If you love a realistic and wonderful story about an FMC with its of insecurities but a brave and kind heart, you will love Hanna. I look forward to seeing her grow and evolve cuz I know the best is yet to come. May is an amazing story teller. If you have not tried her books before, it’s not too late!

Omg this book! I've been beyond absorbed in it for days but hell, I'm gonna be clawing the walls waiting for book 2!!
So Hanna has always lived in her sister shadow but broke away and locked down her powers to study with the guild of spies sacrificing her future with the Ice Fae Prince, Kaelan and planting flame memories in his mind to push him away for the good of all.
Anyway fast forward 5 years and Kaelan is back and he wants to take Hanna back to the Ice Kingdom to fight to be his bride so he can take the throne and vanquish the evil Snake Queen. Ita hard to decide who you want to slap more in the book, Kaelan, his posse of mancandy, his a-hole father or the hoards of desperate women trying to steal Kaelan away and dispose of Hanna.
This book can Stand alone from Honours story but has crossover characters.
It's full of action, adventure, heart break and plenty of adult content 👀🔥🌶
I wish I could read it for the first time again!

It's HERE!

Hanna's story is finally here and I couldn't get enough. I've been patiently waiting for the next series after Honor's story. I was so excited to learn that her sister's story was coming and it didn't disappoint.

It is hard to be related to the queen. It's harder when she is the a dragon shifter and super protective. And that's before you add in her mates...brother-in-laws that are deadly and skilled. But Hanna is determined to make her own place in the world, looking out for her sister and nieces and nephews as she does. She knows her sister has a very dangerous enemy and she'll do whatever it takes to keep her family safe.

I love how skilled and fierce Hanna is in the story. And with the problems she is having with the prince, it just added to the drama...things gets complicated when you use magic to takes away someone's memories. Warning there is quite a cliffhanger ending, but it will place you begging for the next book.

Heart of Ice Is super fast past with lots of action. I love how the author May put these characters and storyline together. Hanna is Honor's younger sister and she wants to be known as her own person not just The Queen's younger sister and always living in her sisters shadows. Hannah does love her sister and her many nieces and nephews along with her sisters husbands as they are her family.
Kaelan is Hanna's first love and the Ice Fae prince soon to be king when he marries. He broke Hanna's heart once because he thought she wasn't strong enough for him. Now that they reunite he has a second chance to redeem all his actions... But will Hanna be able to be the Queen that he deserves and be strong enough to be an amazing leader?
If you love Second Chances. Fae Magic, Snarky Attitudes and Twists then this book is for you.

Heart of Ice, the first nook in the Royal Ice Dragons series by May Dawson was absolutely amazing and a captivating read that I couldn’t put down! Having Hanna finally have her own story was utter perfection and Dawson truly outdid herself with this one!

The chemistry between Hannah, Kaelan Thorne and Dare was utter perfection!!! If you love a good immersive trial story with tons of heat, angst, tension and royalties galore then dive in now to see how amazing it is for yourself! The plot, storyline and characters that Dawson created with this one truly made it a hit that just wouldn’t stop. This is the story of a heroine who will do whatever is necessary to save and protect her loved ones—and have no qualms doing so!

Overall if you love a good dragon shifter romance full of heat, spice and intrigue this is the one for you!

We got to know a little about Hanna when we read Honors story, but now we get to learn Hanna’s. Always in the shadow of her sister, Hanna wants to be seen for who she is. She knows her family loves her and she’s loves them and to protect them she will do anything.
Including hiding that she can shift into a dragon so she can find out who is threatening them.
But her plans take a sharp right turn when the Ice Fae Prince comes back into her life and she ends up bound to help him protect his kingdom and her own.
She finds herself thrown into a world she knows little about, with a man who makes her crazy, and his best friends who make her feel things she can’t explain.

Ends on a bit of a cliff hanger, but totally worth it!

Have you ever been introduced to a character in another series and thought, “We haven’t seen the last of this person”? That’s what I thought when we were first introduced to a very young Hanna in May Dawson’s series Royal Dragons.
Here Hanna is all grown up and struggling in the shadow of her sister. For Hanna, family is everything and she is willing to do ANYTHING, if it means keeping them safe. Enter Kaelan, an ice cold dragon prince, who happened to have broken Hanna’s heart years ago and is now wanting her for his wife. Wow, I didn’t realize how much I missed this universe until I picked up Hanna’s story!! I am so so happy to be back on the Isle with Hanna and with some bits with Honor and her family as well. Hanna is truly an inspirational FMC and I adore her. She will not bow to anyone and no matter what she’s going thru she knows her worth. Kaelan however seems to have forgotten it. But I will say Thorne hasn’t!! I’m frustrated with Kaelan but not all of that is his fault and I’m hoping he will get common sense knocked into him soon. Dare is kind of a mystery at this point and I’m not quite sure how he fits, although I am sure that he will at some point. What an amazing book with so much in it, the trials and unanswered questions really keep you guessing.
