15 year-old Dizzy Walker and his younger sister Ana are about to meet their mom's new boyfriend, Steve, and his son, Travis, for the first time. To make the introduction go smoothly, Steve offers to pay for Dizzy and his family to meet in Disneyland; Dizzy's favorite place in the world. When they arrive at the theme park, they learn about a once in a lifetime treasure hunt called The Disneyland Quest. Clues are hidden throughout Disneyland, leading the quest participants to the combination of a vault set up on Main Street and the $250,000 prize inside. Dizzy, Ana, and Travis must work together in a race against the clock, thousands of opponents, and the mysterious man in red who follows them throughout the quest. Friendship, perseverance, and trust are all put to the test in The Disneyland Quest.
My 10-year-old daughter read this to me and she absolutely loved it and would give it 5 stars! This is a fun read, especially if you love Disneyland! I enjoy it but am not a fanatic so there was some trivia that I was definitely not aware of. Dizzy, Travis and Ana work their way through the clues. There is a time limit and some of the groups are serious competition so the pressure is on. I was impressed with how well they worked together. Not everything goes their way but they are supportive of and kind to each other. We're going to start reading the second book right away and I'm glad to hear that there will even be a third!
*** May I give this 10 stars instead of just five?
I deliberately took my time reading this, savoring the atmosphere. Like Dizzy Walker, I am a Disney-phile; my first visit was in 1955, opening year, though not on opening day. I was nine. The last time I visited was in 2003, when I was 57. I have lost very little of the wide-eyed wonder of my childhood self, though I have to rely on a motorized scooter now instead of running around on my own two feet.
Disneyland (Anaheim) is still one of my favorite places on Earth.
I plan on keeping this on my Kindle Fire and re-reading it frequently. Thank you, Matt Ainsworth, from the child that lives in each of us.
There were some continuity/editing problems. Dizzy's mom, Michelle, is referred to as "Megan" a few times, and Travis' mom, Linda, was called "Michelle" once. Commas were omitted, especially before names, and several times homophones ("sound-alike" words) were used in place of the proper word(s). ***

Cute little book about a Disneyland treasure hunt. Features a bunch of trivia in an entertaining way. Although, we don't really find out what happens to the main rival team. Their story in a loosely tied knot. Still, a good read for a Disney nut.
Cute idea, and as a big Disney fan I did like the quest riddles. But this was written for young children, and unfortunately with many typos, poor grammar, and zero character development.
The Disneyland Quest is a bundle of fun! It's like being a fly on the wall of an amazing adventure. Dizzy heads to Disneyland with his mom Michelle and his sister Ana to meet Michelle's new boyfriend Steve and his son Travis. While in the park a competition is announced: The Disneyland Quest. The kids sign up for the scavenger hunt of their lives. As they race through the park finding clues and solving riddles, they face some nasty competitors. Time is running out and they aren't sure they can overcome the setbacks they have had, but they keep encouraging each other to stay strong.
This book is a real delight for Disney fans. Book, movie, park, and general Disney history fills the pages. I loved solving the riddles alongside the kids. They really bonded as the challenge went on, and Dizzy was a super sweet older brother. The story was as much about the kids getting to shed all the pretenses of being cool and getting back to just being kids, at least for the day, as it was about winning the grand prize. The story brings a day at Disneyland to life, and sparkles with all the magic and wonder that goes along with it.
This was a really fun read...especially if you love anything Disney. I'm not quite the fan that Dizzy is but love going to the parks and so it was fun to read about places that you could easily picture in your mind. The idea is that the park offers a quest challenge to anyone that wants to participate. The quest has a $25,000 award for winning...not to mention passes to go to any Disney park, anywhere in the world, at any time, for free. Dizzy and his sister team up with Travis (their mother's boyfriend's son) with every intention of winning. Not everyone taking part has the knowledge base that Dizzy does but it's still an adventure with ups and downs. A quick read that really makes you root for the good guys.
Great fun book for pre-teens, early teens, and the occasional adult like me who enjoys light adventures with kids leading the action. Any Disney fan will appreciate the Disneyland setting and the clues/solutions.
There are two additional books in the series. I may indulge in the second one in the near future; this one was good enough to move its sequel to near the top of the pile.
What a delightful story. And yes, it's written more for children to enjoy. But yet the puzzles and clues are still tricky and challenging for most adults. And it also just has a sweet message about friendship and kindness that is perfectly suited for a Disney type story.
I decided to finish this! And, it gave me some perspective: it's like a Boxcar Children book. It's not a middle grade (or adult) book and that helped me give it some grace. I think a child in grades 1-3 would enjoy this!
If you can't be at the parks, you've got to be reading about them!
I am no fan of ebooks or the kindle, reading for me will always involve a book but I am glad that ebooks have allowed tonnes of unknown authors to get their work out there. And because ebooks have been so popular its now easy for authors to self publish in paperback which is the bit I like!
I brought this becuase I am in love with everything Disney. I've only been to Disney World but I might be going to Disneyland, california next year. Now I've read a fair bit of fiction set in the parks and it really shines though when the author is a Disney fan themselves. This book had the magical touch. The Disneyland Quest was a fab idea. Disney take note! I wasn't very good at guessing the clues. I wouldn't have won the money but then my knowledge of Disneyland is not as great as my knowledge on WDW.
I loved the characters. You like Dizzy and Ana from the start. Travis, I thought was going to be a jerk but he was actually pretty cool. I liked the rivalry with the other team. And trying to figure out what the man in red was up to. I enjoyed following them all as they guessed the clues.
The only part I didn't think was very realistic was when you find out what Steves dad had been up to. Would he have really done that to his son? He was really mean! I would have thought Steve's mum would have been more upset and angry about what happened but she seemed to take it a little to well for my liking. However this did not spoil my overall feelings for the book and I still walked away, having loved it. I will definitely be buying the next one come payday.
3.5 stars. I downloaded this as a free Kindle ebook and enjoyed following the kids on their Disney treasure hunt. I am not a Disneyland/World lover (I don't dislike it but am not dying to go either), but I liked reading about all the details of the rides and things. There were some typos but they weren't too distracting. Sometimes the details slowed things down, and I personally thought Dizzy was a strange name for a main character and expected it to mean something more at the end since Dizzy is so close to Disney. I liked that the clues made sense logically and were solved by children--It didn't make me feel like a complete idiot (like with David Vinci Code and its chronology). The audience is obviously children, and the book would make a fantastic TV movie on, say, the Disney Channel. :)
This was a fun little book for anyone who loves Disneyland - or any of the other Disney theme parks. It is a bit of an adventure combined with a bit of a mystery. For a first novel it is pretty good. There is another book by the same author that sounds as if it may be just as much fun to read as this one was. I love the fact that it took the reader through the process of how each clue was found and solved instead of just having the reader tag along on the adventure with the heroes of the story. The only disappointment is that the reader is left never knowing the motive(s) behind the villains' actions.
Being a huge disney fan, and a lover of books, I can say that this book is by far one of my favorite Disney books. I'm not being biased or anything, just because I know the author, but from all my knowledge of the disney parks, I can say that this is very very accurate. If you like this book, and the sequel, definitely check out The Kingdom Keepers series.
As this is based around all things Disney, I, of course, loved it. A great read for the Disney lover and solver of puzzles as well. I would love to go on a quest myself. Dizzy was an almost too good to be true kid but I enjoyed reading about him and the solving of the quest. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Congrats!!!!! I just finished reading the third book in the series. All three adventures were well executed. Any fan of the park (Disneyland) or the man (Walt Disney) should like these books. Geared for teens? Yes. Meant for everybody? A RESOUNDING YES!! Great job Mr. A. looking forward to the next adventure.
This is a wonderful book to read. Shows what one can accomplish when one puts there mind to. A must read for the Disney Fan. This book follow Dizzy Walker his sister Ana Walker and new friend Travis Manning on the most epic quest around Disneyland.
This is an adorable story that would be fun to read with your kids before a trip to Disneyland. It's a treasure hunt story that has hard clues, so don't expect to easily solve the story's clues. It was fun and we enjoyed this book.
