Waverly Bryson #3

Honey on Your Mind

Rate this book

For Waverly Bryson, life is anything but boring! And never is that fact more evident than in Maria Murnane’s delightful third novel about the irrepressible heroine. This time around, Waverly faces a game-changing opportunity: an offer to turn her popular advice column into a regular guest spot on the new TV show Love, Wendy. It could be the break of a lifetime—but for a few not-so-minor details. For starters, Waverly’s acceptance of the job means moving clear across the country, giving up her rent-controlled apartment, and leaving behind her best friends McKenna and Andie. Oh, and there’s the fact that TV host extraordinaire Wendy Davenport is none-too-pleased by the prospect of Waverly usurping her broadcast throne. Then there’s Jake, Waverly’s boyfriend. He’s as crazy about her as ever. His mother, on the other hand? Not so much. But Waverly wouldn’t be Waverly if she didn’t tackle these challenges head on, with all the zeal, good humor, and, yes, occasional catastrophe that we’ve come to expect from “the American Bridget Jones.” Witty, light-hearted, and fun, Honey on Your Mind is Waverly Bryson at her best.

The way Maria became an author is a little crazy. She used to work in high-tech PR but hated it, so one day she quit and ended up playing semi-pro soccer in Argentina for a year. While she was down there she decided to write a novel, which was something she'd always dreamed of doing. Fast forward a few years and she's now the best-selling author of Perfect on Paper, It's a Waverly Life, Honey on Your Mind, Chocolate for Two, Cassidy Lane, Katwalk, Wait for the Rain, and Bridges. And yes, she still plays a lot of soccer!

*Endearing*

This is part 3 of a series of 4 books featuring the adventures of Miss Waverly Bryson
She has really grown on me. Her life has taken a turn where her “Honey Notes” have gone from an idea to being realised and have expanded more than her wildest dream one of her slogans “I know nothing, but at least I know that”.

She receives an opportunity to be on live tv to talk about her “Honey Notes” she becomes overwhelmed and is blindsided by a specific personal question by tv host and larger than life character Wendy Davenport who always gushes about my “huuusband” and she has a tendency to exaggerate her southern accent for tv, whilst grooming her ever expanding blonde hair that is getting stiffer by the minute. What is she hiding?

Waverly’s business starts to expand and she secures a weekly slot on Wendy’s show.

Waverly’s boyfriend Jake lives in another state and her fragile heart makes her continually catastrophize which leads to misunderstandings and hilarity.

Will her business continue? Will the commute finally get in the way of her relationship? What’s next for Waverly?

A series that is lighthearted and filled with a lot of silliness, fun and laughter.

I really was not crazy about the first two books (seriously, how many ways can she describe how Waverly put her hair INTO a ponytail, took it OUT of a ponytail, or the ever exciting - ADJUSTED her ponytail?), but I bought all four on sale on my Kindle and they had fun descriptions of some of the SF neighborhoods I loved so much in books 1 & 2. Then, book three, no more SF,instead it is set in NYC and contained so many horribly inaccurate descriptions of it that it was laughable. And Waverly only fiddled with her ponytail a handful of times now that she "was a New Yorker", but the constant bashing of FB/Twitter/etc was weird. Are we really to believe a young, hip tv personality who also started an online store....hates the internet that much? On a good note, it can be read in one night.

I love the Waverly Bryson series! I'm so happy I stumbled on Perfect on Paper a few months back, and I'm thrilled that this has become a series.. I pre-ordered Honey on Your Mind so I could get it the day it was published, and it came last week, and I'm done. Now I'm a little sad, because I know it will be a minute before the next chapter of Waverly's life begins!!!

I like Waverly because she is real. I feel like I'm hanging out with her and she's recounting her drama. I think I probably said that already when reviewing either of the other two books by Maria Murnane, but it's ok.

In Honey on Your Mind, we start out by finding that Waverly's just accepted a job hosting a segment on a new day-time talk show called Love, Wendy. We already met Wendy Davenport in It's a Waverly Life, so this seemed like a natural progression. So Waverly is moving across the country to start a new life in New York City, ready to begin a TV career and launch her Honey line. Being a lifelong New Yorker, I could identify with a lot of what was happening, the locations of course, and the experience. Although I moved to the city when I was 18 and not 32, it was still a similar experience.

I really love the characters, I love how they've grown, how some of Waverly's annoying quirks have disappeared yet her cute ones remain. Jake is still fantastic, her friends are moving along in their lives, and it's just very real and believable (except that all of her friends are very successful - either in sports or banking or whatever else it is they do - where is the failure friend hahaha).

I would STILL highly recommend this series, and even more so to see now how things have developed and progressed!!!!!!!!!

This was a great book. Waverly is some character. She's very vibrant and imaginative. I believe we can all relate to her because sometime in our life we have felt the same way. her mind is always going & thinking. The other characters in the novel are definitely compliments to Waverly. I especially love her boyfriend, Jake.

In the 3rd installment of the Waverly Bryson saga, Waverly has left her friends and the comfort of her San Francisco rent-stabilized apartment to move to New York City. She was offered a job she just couldn't refuse - to host her own segment on a popular day-time television show based on the dating column she used to write called "Honey on your Mind". Waverly is still in a long-distance relationship with her wonderful boyfriend Jake who lives in Atlanta. Waverly initially thinks being on the same coast as Jake will bring them closer but between her demanding new job and the growing popularity of her Honey branded merchandise line, she begins to fear the exact opposite. On top of that, she is in on a secret involving both her co-worker and a new close friend and doesn't know if it's better to feign ignorance or spill the beans. Though on paper, it seems Waverly's dreams are all finally coming true, she begins to wonder if the rug will be pulled out from under her.

I enjoyed Perfect on Paper and with the exception of the "Red" storyline LOVED It's A Waverly Life. Although I was excited to read Honey on Your Mind, I wasn't sure if a third installment was really necessary and when I first started reading, I was afraid my fears were warranted. For the first quarter of the book, I was not impressed. I was bored with Waverly's friends and their ever-witty banter. Although it was supposed to be natural, it felt forced, especially Andy's constant comments about McKenna's baby. I could have sworn I heard a laugh track. I also found Waverly to be just too perfect; everybody loves her; she's klutzy in that adorable way; and she's entirely too self-deprecating. She shoves her face with chocolate and never gains a pound and let's face it, how did she get so damn successful so quickly? She just instantly knew how to engage an audience on live television? Please.

Even while I was thinking these things to myself, I couldn't put the book down. And I didn't want to. The author writes in such an effortless way that the pages practically turn themselves and I do appreciate that. I also was especially interested in her struggles with long distance dating since my boyfriend lives across the country. Additionally, despite being just a bit too endearing to be real, I found Waverly to be relatable. Finally, towards the end, she really did have me on the edge of my seat wondering what Jake wanted to talk about. Although I was quite confident that things would turn out fine for Waverly, I admit to having my occasional doubts. But what finally brought this story from 3 to 4 stars for me was everything that happened from New Year's Eve on. It was incredibly touching and yes, I shed a tear - maybe two.

Finally, although I think the new cover is pretty, I wish it did not depart so much from the other ones. They are supposed to be a brand and yet this one looks nothing like the others.

I'm pretty certain that there will be a fourth book and I'm also pretty certain I will read it! Just the same, I'm kind of hoping Murnane will put Waverly Bryson to bed and try something new soon. Even Kinsella knew when to stop with the Shopaholic Series.

Waverly is adjusting to life with her boyfriend, Jake. Things are going well between them. That is until Waverly gets an opportunity to bring her Honey on your Mind to television audiences. Only there are two catches. The first being that Waverly will have to work with Wendy. There is no lost love between these two ladies. The second thing is that Waverly will have to move to the East Coast. Waverly is about to take on the Big Apple.

I love Waverly Bryson. I have become a fan of her’s since the first book, Perfect on Paper. Her Honey Notes are classic. I wished that I had come up with this idea. A way to get paid for saying what is on my mind in some times a sarcastic way. Waverly is nice, fun, and her corny jokes are great. Jake is the greatest boyfriend to put up with Waverly. Having said all this, I sadly was disappointed by this book. I had a hard time getting into this book in the beginning. In fact, I put this book down and did not pick it back up for about several months. Then I started reading it again and it was not long before I found myself skimming some of it.

I am glad that I do not have to work with someone like Wendy. She is so fake. However, I must admit that the barbs that she would throw Waverly’s way did keep things interesting. Waverly and Jake make such a cute couple. I am glad that Waverly has someone like Jake. What for me lost some of the luster in this book was the carefree attitude that Waverly has. This helps Waverly to be more herself. There was too much drama going on in this book. I hope that the next book reverts more back to the first book.

It's been wonderful watching Maria Murnane grow as a writer. This is her third book featuring Waverly Bryson as our intrepid heroine.

Waverly has grown up quite a bit over the previous novels. In this book, she is moving to New York to begin her career as a features reporter on a national talk show. She is also starting her own merchandising featuring her Honey cards.

Waverly is still dating Jake, who still lives in Atlanta. At least they're in the same time zone now.

The book is an easy beach read, but just so well-done. I found myself cheering Waverly on, as she finally was making some good decisions. I enjoyed every character in the book, including some old ones (Waverly's best friends Andie and McKenna) as well as new ones (Paige, Andie's cousin).

If you've been following this series, I highly recommend it. Actually, I recommend it as a stand alone as well. Great job Maria!

Oh man. There are so many “changes” in this book happening for Waverly and her friends and family. Waverly herself has many changes happening but they are GOOD changes. Jake, Andie, Makenna, Shane, Kristina and more are back in the third installment of the Waverly Bryson saga.

We start out with Waverly deciding to accept a job and make a huge move because of it. I think this is the catalyst that sets off a few of the reactions that happen in the book. Waverly’s moments are still here in this book and she has a couple.

I so totally wish that some of the Honey products were available and on the market now! I would love to have a few of them. Haha. Some of the things said in the book hit close to home about dating and whatnot for me. Definitely had to laugh at the “emails” Waverly received and read.

Overall, a great addition to the Waverly saga and I can only image what happens in the next book!

Things have never been easy for Waverly but it looks like her life is finally coming together. After making the big move from San Francisco to New York and debuting her "Honey on Your Mind" segment on the Love Wendy tv show, Waverly finally feels like things are going her way. But if you know Waverly you know that nothing is ever simple and good fortune can turn bad in a heartbeat. So as she wades through the everyday ups and downs of a woman in the city be ready for a bumpy ride.

Meh. Entertaining enough for a weekend but nothing great. The main character was a little unbelievable and very immature for someone in their thirties who has started their own business and has a feature spot on a major television show. I didn't realize the book was part of a series but see no need to read the others. Read for the Popsugar 2020 Reading Challenge, book published in the month of your birth challenge.

Felt like I was in NYC

I recently visited Nyc and more specifically Brooklyn and loved the visuals described in the story. Waverly is a little like all of us.. questioning our moves and relationships but somehow things always have a way of working out. Can't wait to see what's in store in book 4 😀

Part 3 just as cute

Okay, I have read all 3. Still a cute lazy day read. Part 4 is next. While I am fairly confident in how this will all wrap up , I am excited to see how it gets there. Enjoy!

What is in store for Waverly now?
As I launched into this third book in the life of Waverly Bryson, I was surprised with a new twist. The die hard resident of San Francisco is moving....to New York! Waverly has been offered an incredible opportunity to take Honey on Your Mind to the screen! Not only is Honey on Your Mind a segment on Love, Wendy but her dear friend, Scotty is her boss. Life is looking up for Waverly.
The theme for this book is definitely that things aren't always as they seem. Waverly learns this the hard way as she struggles with some friends' decisions while trying not to meddle.
We met Wendy, the host of the show in It's a Waverly Life when Waverly is on the Today show with her. Wendy does not love Waverly which makes for some interesting "Waverly moments"
Jake is still her boyfriend and Waverly has learned to let her guard down and trust in her relationship with him....for the most part.
Waverly is so busy trying to balance TV and the opening of her new office, Waverly's Honey Shop for her Honey products.
This book made me laugh, cry and laugh again as we follow Waverly's misadventures and learn what's on the minds of those around her.
I would recommend you read Perfect on Paper and then It's a Waverly Life before this book so that you can get the most enjoyment out of it.
Murnane has again done a great job of developing all the characters. This was another fantastic read.
