The third highly illustrated, paper-over-board book in the spellbinding series Jeff Kinney called “wildly imaginative and totally terrifying” finds Levi, Kat, and their friends caught in the grips of a lost child who is neither real nor imaginary. Can they escape? Shhh, listen . . . hear that? Is it the breeze in the tall grass? Or is it . . . something—somebody—sinister? The kids of Cowslip Grove are putting on a school play, and Kat, Levi, Donte, and their friends all have parts. But at rehearsal one day, a piece of chalk leaps up on its own and starts writing on the blackboard. Soon the kids learn they are being stalked by the mysterious "Little Nobody"—an invisible child with no memories. As the kids begin to unravel the mystery behind Little Nobody, they accidentally reveal a strange and secret world—along with the true fates of many long-lost children and creatures. But something else is an undead enemy that hopes to manipulate Little Nobody into bringing great harm to Cowslip Grove. And it will take everything the children have to defeat it. With illustrations on every page, the third book in the No Place for Monsters series continues to place readers inside the "totally terrifying" (Jeff Kinney), "haunted garden" ( New York Times ) imagination of Kory Merritt.
4 stars for this fun middle grade slightly spooky (in a fun way) middle grade read.
I thought the story of “forgotten children” and LN (Little Nobody) struggling to give into Mister Boojum was creative and well done.
The illustrations are fantastic, and the difference in text depending on if it was LN or the townspeople/children sharing their story was a smart choice. It helped the reader realize which POV was speaking.
All in all, the kid that wants a slightly spooky read w illustrations should pick up this one.
I know this is in a series, but it can be read as a standalone.
Merritt returns to Cowslip Grove with another entry in this unique graphically illustrated series. Little Nobody has forgotten who they are and only has a vague form provided by a bedsheet robe and a newspaper hat. Little Nobody longs to be seen and hangs out during play practice at the school. Little Nobody is a keen observer and tries to find a way to not only be seen but to help the students and their teacher.
Children start to go missing inexplicably and the worst part, no one even remembers they ever existed in the first place, until Levi’s little sister goes missing and he starts to remember her, and the other missing children. Now, it is up to him and his friend Kat to work together to find and save the missing children from the terrifying monsters who have kidnapped them. Super creep factor in this one, especially the amnesia!
This one is about Little Nobody or LN for short who can't remember who he is because it has been so long and everyone calls him Little Nobody.
The old gang is back (Levi, Kat, and Jordan) as well as some other kids at the school who help LN figure out who he is as LN helps them in school as well.
I loved this books. My kids and I take turns picking audiobooks to listen to in the car and my 10 year old daughter picked this series. The first two (especially the second) were a healthy dose of scary. Enough to where we didn’t listen to it at night. This one however was a lot less scary and kind of cute. I love this one beat but my daughter who loves scary things like the other two better.
I don’t know how to rate this book because there’s one plot line that’s a little too on the nose at this time. I did like that Little Nobody got to know the real Kat and was actually there for her in the end.
What a ride. Lots of twists and turns. The art work. I could look at it all day. There is so much to see. Excuse me, Mr. Merritt, sir. You left us hanging. I hope another book comes quickly.
Another flawless blend of humor, horror, and heart with delightfully creepy art and imaginative storytelling. I see what you did here, Kory. Topical, everlasting, and perfectly executed.
